Out of curiosity, how hot is it on your end? And don't worry about converting to Fahrenheit; I'm familiar with the Celsius scale.

That's almost exactly the same as on my end. Admittedly, as someone who's endured June in Wisconsin, I know it could be a lot worse, but I'll certainly agree that that kind of weather is a long way from comfortable.

It was 92 (a little over 33ºC) earlier before the thunderstorms kicked in. I don't know what the humidity was, but apparently it was high enough to make it feel like 106 (~41ºC).

So basically, it's July in the South.

Ugh. Sounds a lot like what I had to deal with in Wisconsin in spring. As much as I loved the Fox Valley, there were two things keeping me from being willing to live there. The first was that it's uncomfortably hot there in the spring and summer. The second was that it was teeming with spiders during my time there. As much as I'd love to have a cold winter with actual snow, I don't consider it worth hot summers and being unable to take a walk without passing by multiple occupied spiderwebs at every lamppost.

Very close to our weather right now. The heat index today was making it feel close to 100F (38C) today. It was much hotter last week though with all the thunderstorms and the humidity it brought with it. I suppose it's finally summer here. I have to say though, June was the coolest that it had been for years, but July has been unforgiving.

I actually don't mind the heat as much.

I do like a winter with snow, but I don't care for the accompanying ice if it means power loss, slip 'n slide roads and no way to combat either. (You know the joke about the South shutting down over an inch of snow? Still true in a lot of places. Last winter was brutal...though probably "January" for Northerners...and I sense it'll return this year. But hopefully not as brutal.)

We really don't get snow if ever, but the past couple of years, we've had some ice storms. Though not as bad as in 1996 where it shut our power off for a week, we've been getting really icy roads that last for a few days. While it may not be a huge deal up north, down here it is considering we don't have special tires to deal with it considering that getting iced is supposed to be a rare occurrence over here.

We do tend to get a lot of rain and sometimes hurricanes though, so I guess there is that.

Jumping in the wagon. Yesterday morning (4 am) it was 28 degrees. This morning it was ... 18 degrees... Go home temperature you're drunk. In other news: I hate our big summer heat spell. So hot and humid... From what I remember 10-15 years ago our summers weren't that bad...

Waterparks, man. Frickin' sun beating down on me all day... I'm practically a lobster from all the sunburn. And honestly, they aren't that exciting for me. I was only there for a group event.

@General Luigi: How interesting that you mention spending time in Wisconsin; I actually do live there! And I agree, summers aren't all that fun here - especially August. But I, personally, find something strangely endearing about the winter, even when everyone around me is complaining about how cold it is.
...We, uh, tend to complain about the weather a lot here. :ron:

As for the spiderps, I don't know what's up with that. Then again, I live in the northern part of the state, so we're more worried about deer running out into the road.

(Although I'm curious what brought you here in the first place.)

We just had flooding last Friday over here big time. So many streets were blocked off and good luck trying to leave the house. It rained heavily all day, it almost felt like we were experiencing a weak hurricane to be honest.

We don't really have a problem with frogs over here. I usually see them run over along with turtles and possums. So many possums. The only noise-ish thing we have are cicadas and the stupid neighbors that can't get enough of just randomly popping off fireworks at the oddest hours on days that make no sense. July 4th happened several weeks ago!

I absolutely loved the winter in Wisconsin and would love to go back there someday during that time of year (it helps that my memory is that most of the spiders are gone during the winter). I just happen to hate hot summers more than I like cold winters. I attended college in Wisconsin, so I got to avoid most of the summer. Of course, as luck had it, graduation was outdoors on a day that it was expected to be over 100°F (~37°C). We were packed tightly enough that our collective body heat counteracted the cooling effect of the pavilion and fans.

I like frogs just fine. I just like my sleep more.

My apartment is right next to a swampy area, so the little guys are plentiful, or at least I can hear what they're doing quite clearly whenever it rains. They're literally louder than a hurricane.

Lately, there's been a mockingbird in my area that sings in the middle of the night for some strange reason, keeping me up from time to time as a result. It's no frog orgy, but it's still annoying when a supposedly diurnal animal is chirping away at 1:00 AM.

It's now 23 degrees here in the Netherlands. After a week of constant temperatures of 25 - 30 degrees a lot of people welcome it here. I personally really like hot temperatures. 30 degrees feels great in my opinion so I hope the temperatures will rise a bit again before summer ends.

I know my mother's busy with her Wiesn work right now, but no need to snap at me (even if it was slightly) cause I asked her about potential plans for supper. I was only asking in a general way. I mean, I don't want to eat something now and then find out she was planning to cook something big later on. Sheesh...

Spoiler: 'Just in case' - tw: mentions of suicide
TL; DR version:
Heat + lack of [quality] sleep + a MESSTON of stress = a HIGHLY unstable Hikari.

'Rant version:'
a.) Apparently, the motor for the A/C in the house is shot, which is why it's a good 30-31(?)C about now. So... Time for more tossing and turning while trying to sleep until we can somehow get it fixed.

b.) Gotta love being short on manpower, especially as far as janitorial stuff goes. I highly doubt adding an extra hour to a couple of my 'shorter' shifts is going to really help a whole lot... unless the boss means for me to try to use it to get the dining room floors scrubbed on those days rather than Friday or Saturday.

Actually, while we're at it, a bit of extra front counter help, especially on Friday and Saturday nights, would 'probably' help. That way, if stuff's going on with the pinsetter, there's still someone to cover the counter. :beef: Shocking concept, I know.

c.) Anxiety on top of exhaustion is almost never a good thing. Like tonight -- I accidentally reset the pins on one of the lanes because I thought someone had a strike. My uncle threw his ball as the pinsetter went to reset, and I panicked -- especially when the ball hit it and bounced off. Turns out there was a pin left, but I couldn't see it from the desk. Aaaaaand, there's a good chance I'm not gonna be able to live that shit down. |||orz

d.) I think tonight was the first one in a while where I felt at least mentally suicidal. Face to axe, gun to face... something kinda brutal like that. Only thing is, I couldn't even attempt that stuff not matter how badly I wanted it. I mean, if I couldn't even make a couple of nicks with a box-cutter in easily concealable places...

Suicidal ideation is concerning, but I agree it's probably brought on by the broken A/C unit/exhaustion/extra work/stress combo. I hope your A/C unit gets fixed soon (or at least temperatures drop where you are) and things settle down at work and more quality sleep can happen.

In the meantime, do you have fans that you can use? Are you able to crack the windows some, or do you have the unfortunate luck of living next to a ditch (as I did)?

Yeah, but it's not necessarily new. 2014 hasn't exactly been a kind year -- unless piling crap upon crap is 'kindness?'

There is a ceiling fan and my 'little box fan that could' for sure. A couple of windows have been opened since sometime yesterday, I wanna say. It hasn't helped a whole lot, since the temperature in the house is still around the mid-80s.

Oh dear... Ditch = sewage smell of something, or...?

The ditch? Not so much the smell as it is the critters it tends to attract. And here I thought that our flea problem was bad. I had to leave my room and sleep in the same room as my parents since my room was utterly infested with thousands of the little bastards. We can't get our cats a flea treatment, since we have so many fleas that once the treatment wears off they simply get more fleas! Although by comparison, I'm glad we don't have to deal with roaches. I'm absolutely terrified of roaches, due to playing a couple of video games where you have to deal with giant roaches, such as the fallout series.

Thanks for the warning... note to self... never play Fallout series... LMAO. (Nah, I know how that is. Imagine my horror when I hit the fiftieth floor of the Chrysler building in the first Parasite Eve...)

Fleas vs roaches... well, the thought of a thousand tiny buggers sucking on my blood all at once would freak me out just as much. The majority of roaches won't hurt you, I think... though they are some of the most disgusting scavengers to roam the planet. On the other hand, I've heard horror stories of the tinier ones crawling into people's ears and making a snack of their eardrums... bad as our problem has been at times, thankfully, I've never had to deal with that. (Though during the busted A/C unit incident I did have the lovely experience of waking up to the sound of a larger one flying over my head... while I was lying on my back with my mouth wide open.)

Can you call pest control for the fleas?

The cats I lived with had a pretty serious flea problem themselves a while back. Get the house fumigated to kill all the fleas that aren't on the cats. After that, just give the cats regular treatment (my family uses Frontline).

We're actually already in the process of doing that. But you should never use the treatment you get at the store, only use the stuff you can get from the vet. I've heard horror stories of cats going into convulsions from taking stuff like Sergeant's.

This incident of Michelle Phan and a comment on her twitter is pretty annoying.

I'm not saying I'm swayed easily by this, and you might say this is depicting only one side of things, but given that we actually do get to see tweets and responses from both sides, it's hard to say it is heavily one-sided. I for one think this is a terrible thing to happen and actually should never have gotten so far or so big a thing.

Mostly it's because, well, for one: it's the internet. People will complain about your stuff or insult you. Why even give a fuck about that? People are commenting on my videos that I'm too negative - *shrug* I probably am about things. Doesn't bother me, as long as they don't flat out insult me. And even then, the insult depends as well.

For another, I don't know this Michelle. I think I am sort of semi-aware of her existence somewhere on YouTube, but that's not the point. Fact is, if you are this well known on YouTube and similar, you have somewhat of a responsibility towards things. If someone insults you and you delete the tweet/comment/PM/whatever, fine. But retweeting it with full knowledge of what rabid fans will do is just plain mean. That's not cool. This Michelle Phan needs to know that she does have influence and if she don't use it properly or watch out what she does, it'll end badly for her.

I mean, this incident already makes her seem like a total bitch. Not good publicity. Could scare off potential new viewers.

But I'm not saying the tweet/comment that started this was A-Okay. Sure it was a whiny way of saying things, and later comments of how she's 16 years old should not be seen as an excuse. (Then again, I DESPISE the idea of "If you've got nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all" because I think it's a dumb way of dealing with things) Just that Michelle really fucked the goat on this one and needs to realize that she has a responsibility to take care of.

Oh the drama. I don't think "people will insult you on the internet, that's just how it is" is a reason to put up with shit, but damn, the comment that started it wasn't even worth getting upset over. Retweeting it, probably with the intention of that to happen, was just incredibly immature.

Of course you aren't obligated to put up with stupid stuff like that. She dealt with it properly at first, deleting it. Retweeting it is the problem. I'm just saying if someone gets this pissy about one comment on the internet, they have no right to be on the internet.

So about a week ago, I noticed I had some pressure feeling when I peed. I figured I was getting a UTI, since it wasn't a burning sensation, just pressure. So I got cranberry juice to drink, since in our house, we use that against UTIs and even took cranberry pills and drank lots and lots of fluids. Especially water.

Things got better, now I'm having it again. Mom says I've been complaining about it for ten days. That's wrong because it got better for several days where I said NOTHING about it! Also, she says I didn't do what SENSIBLE people did by going to a doc. My own doc was out for the week! She knows that. Yeah I didn't go to the ER doc (cause I don't think this would consist of a bad enough thing to go to the hospital's 24hr ER doc) or the substitute (I didn't write down the sub's adress). So? I still DID something against it.

Just cause I didn't run to the doc over suspicion of a freaking UTI doesn't mean I don't have the right to complain. Heck, I'm not even complaining. I just stated to her that the pressure was back. Also, SENSIBLE people? The fucking hell, huh? She knows we're both the type who don't go to the doc over every little thing - we know when we need to go and I thought this was not necessary for a doc trip. If it was still giving me pressure NOW, WITHOUT days of respite in between, I would've already gone to my doc. But as it worked out fine after several days of lots of drinking and cranberries, I thought it was fine.

Yeah I'll go to my doc on monday, but still. Why do I get snapped at when I state a fact?
Then again, she's the insane one who has been cooking and baking in the hot kitchen for three hours for a chilli/cookie meet up contest. You tell me who the sensible one is.

What's insane about a chill and/or cookie meet up contest? That sounds kinda neat.

Also in Germany do you have to go to one specific doctor for just a checkup? I mean sure here in Scotland you have family GP's but they don't stop you from going to another doctor (non-ER) if your GP is busy or you can't get an appointment with them.

It's summer and it was really freaking hot. Right now it's cooled down cause we're getting rain and probably a storm. But if it's summer, very hot and she cooks and bakes in the kitchen and gets hot from that, that's her doing. The chilli/cookie thing isn't the problem.

Also, we have specialists, but general doctors as well. We call them Hausarzt, the ones who know you the best because you've been going to them for years and they are an overall type of doctor. They can do a lot, but more specific stuff will get you a transfer to a more specalized doc. I could've gone to a different one, but as I said, I mostly saw no reason to go to a doctor over this.

I am getting extremely sick of my mom's habit of holing up in her bedroom for hours on end. It seems like I'm doing more parenting than she is, which is doubly concerning considering my dad is always at work (he works for a farmer and often doesn't get home until after 10 PM.)
I'm worried about what's going to happen once I leave for college. If she doesn't figure out that she needs to be a parent, my brothers are practically going to be neglected when they aren't at school.
And of course I have no idea what the hell I'm talking about because I don't have any children of my own. (Reminder that the orange words are laced with venomous sarcasm.)
When I brought it up to her, she said something to the effect of "How I handle your brothers is my business, not yours!", to which I wanted to reply "You have to handle them at all before you can handle them a specific way."

...The worst part? It started because I called her out on hiding in her bedroom while she had something cooking in the microwave. :ron:

Yeah my mum's pretty much the same, but I know it's because of her work really, she's always so busy and she will spend time with my little brother if she's on holiday. However outside that it's always me or my other brother and before we were old enough to be on our own it was just a string of childminders we both went between while everyone worked.

:ron: Guess I don't have an especially close relationship with my mother as a result.

Hmm... At least your mom has the reason of having a job. My mom hasn't had a job since I was 5 or 6.
And since two of my brothers have autism (combined with the fact that we live in the middle of nowhere) finding a full-fledged babysitter is impractical if not downright impossible.

Yeah my little brother has Downs Syndrome so it takes folks with some patience and understanding for him, fortunately me and my brother are now old enough to take care of the wee lad but yeah :( sorry to hear.

Thanks for being willing to respond to someone who's at a high point of rage.
:hoboleft: Though to be honest, just posting that initial message describing my anger took a lot of the edge off for me. I noticed the same thing back in July when I was pissed that nobody from school came to my graduation party.

I guess there really is some psychological benefit to airing one's grievances to other people. :hobohodo:
