Well, if you can't find a big pillow, I've found a screaming rubber chicken can do wonders for the soul.

Are you very sensitive to the heat? Do you suffer in the heat, or are you concerned about dehydration?

Why do you "feel unable" to do something about someone else's posts on another site? Assuming you're not mod/admin there, why do you think that's your responsibility? Or is it something different?

At the moment, don't be overly concerned with whether or not your friend considers you as good a friend as you do him. Call him up or drop him a message on FB (or however you communicate), and simply ask how he's doing.

You know, I really hate it - in general - if someone makes a comment about something and then the other person chimes in with "I/my mother/father/friend/sibling/acquaintces is/has/was etc" you know, fill in whatever you want. And then the first person says "Oh sorry, if I had known..."

Look, it doesn't matter if you know or don't - just because you now know and apologize doesn't mean you still don't think your previous comment is correct. Yes, it's a faux pas, you don't know every single thing about the person you're talking with, so they technically can't hold it against you for saying something that may hit close to home. But saying sorry won't change your opinion on this matter.

Own up that you said something and say, "Oh sorry, maybe that was an inappropriate thing to say" not apologize.

I'm confused

"I'm sorry, if I had known...(presumably this ends with "I wouldn't have brought it up")"

and
"Oh sorry, maybe that was an inappropriate thing to say" seem functionally identical to me. Also what do you mean the second phrase isn't apologising? "Oh sorry" is pretty much the most basic form of apology.

Yeah they shouldn't hold it against you but it is a social faux-pas and I think a minor apology to forgive your ignorance in the matter isn't out of the question.

As said, it doesn't matter. Hey, if they hadn't mentioned that it was a faux pas, do you think they would've apologized? No. So why even bother, considering that we know they don't really mean it when we point it out and they apologize. And my example sentence was more "Sorry for bringing it up" rather than "Sorry that I said this specific thing that you/your acquaintance have/experienced"

I hate it when people force me to be social in public. I was at the curry night restaurant of this week, I had signed up, but due to my current cold (thankfully it seems to be a mild one *knock on wood*) I need frequent bathroom breaks, so I figured it'd be easier on me, and other people in case I get into a conversation, to get my food to-go so I don't bother anyone when I stop after a bite and head for the bathroom.

I'm sitting there, waiting for my food when one more person comes in - our reservation was for about 16 people and we had two tables, so the just arrived person sits at the other table, studying the card and all. So my mom tells me, kind of interrupting something I was telling her, to go over to her since she's alone and do the meet-and-greet thing, tell her hi and that she shouldn't get too comfortable since I'm getting my food to-go and my seat will be empty again.

Okay. First of all... well, I don't think it's rude for someone to be on their own if they came alone and they are currently sitting at one table alone cause the first one is full - besides, others will arrive soon enough. Second of all, she KNOWS how socially awkward I am! She's known me for 24 years and on-going. She knows I have terrible difficulty talking to strangers (because yes, this was a stranger, the curry night group changes all the time, sometimes someone was there last week and next time they aren't) and overall how difficult it is for me. For another, I was already bodily uncomfortable because of the (false alarm) feeling of requiring the bathroom again.

This whole thing took about a minute or two - and my mood was pretty much rock-bottom after that. Yes, that's very short, but I am very fast in changing my moods. Especially when I'm already feeling a bit terrible myself, so within seconds I can go from a mood of "Oh I don't mind social activity right now and big groups are okay as long as we aren't too crowded together" to "OmG leave me alone I just wanna huddle into a corner with my hands over my ears". Luckily, my food arrived so I was able to escape - but the woman was up from her table and passed me, anyway, so I told her (friendly) that she can have my seat since I got my food to-go and hope to see her next time.

Still. Please. PLEASE stop trying to force anti-social people to be social. Not everyone will be happy for a chance! :larry:

Why can't every child who attends public school be an orphan? That way, I don't have to deal with their lousy parents. Yes, I work at a school with low kids in 3rd grade with 90% barely above a kindergarten reading level. Yes, their math grades are low this year because the new curriculum this year is applying 4th and 5th grade concepts to 3rd grade in the form of complicated word problems with many words they can't read or comprehend. I'm doing the best I can to help your child, it'd be nice if you didn't want to chew my head off because your child is struggling with all this stupid mess stacked against them. It also doesn't help when my classroom is over-saturated with too many students, whereas a 3rd grade class is supposed to have 21 or so and I have 26.

26 is a lot? I dunno, my classes tended to be 30 students at least, sometimes 36.

I have to vent in general, I hate when people can't spell the simplest of words correctly. It makes you look ridiculously stupid and like you have no clue what you're actually talking about. It's also really annoying because it can make the reader's brain fuck up, too - I have read "loose" being used instead of "lose" when it's supposed to be the latter and the many, many misuses of their/they're/there and you're/your, I now have to stop myself at times when I see it correctly, to wonder if it is correct.
And this comes from people who complain about other people's stupidity in various situations. If you can't even write your own damn thing without these elementary mistakes, you have no real right to complain about other people being stupid.

26 is a lot when they're little. 30 isn't much when you're middle school/high school. Taking into account, when I want to teach and if every student needed about a minute of discipline, that's cutting 26 minutes of the 90 minutes I need just to teach math. Law demands that if a room exceeds 22, a second adult is required in the classroom because it's too many kids to adults. Our district says they have a waiver, but I think it's more so nobody will say anything.

I can handle 26, it's just the problem of feeling the need to have to micromanage at times takes away so much from the classroom. Another thing too is I can't do 1 on 1 because there are two many kids, a thing that'd be much more manageable to do in a smaller classroom.

In fact, I do transition with another third grade class, so I actually teach a total of 51 and while I mostly handle my homeroom's parents, it's not too exciting when I have angry parents from the room I transition with wanting to bite down my neck because their child's math grades are low and I'm not there to explain why. All it's doing is making me have to schedule more conferences and having to deal with angry parents, which, not gonna lie, is not my idea of a fun time. I will be the first to admit if I'm not doing a great job teaching, but when the low math grades are commonplace among the whole district among all the grade levels, they need to stop putting all the blame on me. I'm not choosing to teach the new curriculum, I have to because it's required. It's not my fault that the stupid state of Texas decided to raise the difficulty because they believe it will make kids smarter.

OmG, mom, stop bitching at me about the fucking housework! Just cause the apartment isn't spick and span when you're home doesn't mean I did NOTHING! Your earning the money? Well fucking bully for you, I would like to do the same, but nobody will LET me!

What, you spent 5 hours cleaning the living room last Sunday? So fucking what? You're the one who decided to do that. Had you told me to do something, I would've done so.

A few days ago, Luna, a cat that one of my sisters lived with during her time in Kentucky, was brought to live with me and my parents. My sister has horribly spoiled her; she is currently so fat that she can't reach some parts of her body when grooming. My parents and I decided to put Luna on a diet and my sister is going to be expected to do her part when she gets here, too.

The last time Luna was here, she and the cats I live with did not get along. As such, my parents and I had a temporary door installed in one area of the house, effectively ensuring that only humans can pass freely between that area and the rest of the house. Luna is being kept in that small area so she and the other cats don't get into fights. That area happens to include my bedroom, which, when coupled with Luna's diet, sets the stage for my vent.

During her time with my sister, Luna got used to the idea of being fed whenever she wanted to be fed. My sister, without intending to, conditioned Luna into believing that she could get food simply by meowing until the nearest human gives in. Because she is on a diet, this means she is now quite noisy when she wants to be fed, as she is not receiving as much food as she used to. Because she is being kept in an area of the house that includes my bedroom, that means that whenever I am in that area, I am the one she pesters if there is no food in her bowl. This wouldn't bug me as much were it not for one thing: she does most of her "feed me" meowing during the night when I'm trying to sleep. She pestered me on and off from about 2:00 AM to 7:00 AM last night. I only know I managed to get some sleep during that time because I recall bits of dreams. She only stopped because she gets her bowl filled once in the morning and once in the evening, and I considered 7:00 to qualify as morning, so I went and got some food for her. She didn't bother me after that.

For the record, I'm not mad at Luna. I am annoyed at my sister for letting things get this bad, though. When Luna behaves this way, it is tempting to feed her just to get her to be quiet. I had to resist that temptation for five hours while simultaneously trying to get some sleep, which is what I worry my sister will be unable to do once she's here (Luna's "territory" also includes her bedroom, so she'll be dealing with Luna's meowing, too). This whole debacle could ultimately make things a bit unpleasant between me and my sister; I am not going to be happy with her if she proves unwilling to help with Luna's diet.

Temporary Solution:
Spoiler:
Plug your ears with ear plugs if you have a pair.If you don't,put on your headphone/earphone and put on some soothing music or lullaby.

Long-term Solution:[May or may not be effective]
Spoiler:
1)Re-discipline by continuing to refuse feeding it until the next feeding time. The duration will be depended on how long she was being spoiled because it affects the mental of the cat.[Schedule unchanged]
2)Re-arrange the feeding schedule.Calculate the total amount of food fed and re-divide it into smaller yet more frequent feeding time.Example:10g for 2 times,5g per feeding time.Re-divide 10g for 5 times,2g per feeding time. The frequency are yours to be decided

I also have some cats (3 in total,1 foreigner,2 adopted from cat's mother since baby) in my care and I usually feed them on time.Pointless rambling:
Spoiler:
My problem with the cats are not the food, but what came out of it.They sometimes ignore the litterbox and relief themselves where the flooring are smooth which mostly the sink.I prevented that by placing a barrier to block them from reaching the sink but every action has its re-action and the re-action I got from the cats is they relocate their dumping site to the bedrooms.I had to move to the living room to sleep because MAAAAAAAAAAAN it smells really bad.I am currently training them to use the toilet by placing them there every night so they won't poop my room but still not much of an improvement but it still going.
Hope the solution can assist you.

One of my colleagues has been really snidey and trying to get me in trouble for a few months now and I found out it's because another colleague (who we all thought was lovely) told her I hate working with her.

Yay for working in a grown up environment :yogi:

I do hate working with her but I never voiced this in front of that particular colleague which means she's just shit stirring for no reason.

Plus, what kind of baby is this who can't deal with this? I mean, hasn't she learned by now (I dunno how old you or she are... in your 20s?) that sometimes you have to deal with people you don't like? That includes the working environment. And nothing says that you have to be okay with every person you work with, you just have to be able to work alongside each other without killing the other... unless your contract states you have to like each other... which I doubt. :ron:

I know the feeling, my work is a bit of a tense environment after a lass who was generally pretty horrible to everyone (except those in power) got herself a promotion. That plus the boss can be a bit tetchy to be around. Several good folks have already left for brighter shores. At this point I'd be happy to leave quicker before something goes wrong and I get dragged in for a disciplinary or something.

Yeah my manager always says that it doesn't matter who you do and don't like, we all have to work together and that's that. When people act so childish it does nothing but create more tension so instead of enjoying my job I'm just permanently pissed off with it.

My colleagues who are behaving like 9 year olds are 25 and 46 :eh?:

Disciplinary for what? D: Arse kissing colleagues are the absolute worst. Happy to make you feel like shit until someone higher up is in the vicinity and suddenly she thinks she's everyone's best friend and the hardest worker. Although of course it's hilarious when the higher up knows exactly what a twat they are.

There's a massive amount of liability in my job (yours too if its what I think it is), and there's increasing amounts of minor things staff are bringing up as how they'd like the place run. For example, the sleepover room is cleaned practically every day. Sheets are changed and cleaned and that's all well and good. The floor needing hoovered every morning? It's harder to convince me that's necessary when the floor looks no different before and after. Staff are constantly being encouraged to challenge each other and call everyone else out and we get so many conflicting opinions and catch-22s that it might just take someone looking at me funny before I get called in for a discussion.

It's so annoying when you're looking up a manga someone has recommended, and yaoi hentai scenes shows up all the time :(
Especially when the characters are covered in "Thousand Island dressing".

Especially when the characters are covered in "Thousand Island dressing".

...Okay, I might have to look this term up. :gant: What's it called?

Eh... not necessarily. One of the labels of publishing German manga has its regular label, and then it has its regular label with a small "adult" written in tiny writing on it. I seriously had to look for it when I initially read some of those things.

It's harder to convince me that's necessary when the floor looks no different before and after. Staff are constantly being encouraged to challenge each other and call everyone else out and we get so many conflicting opinions and catch-22s that it might just take someone looking at me funny before I get called in for a discussion.

Being encouraged to challenge each other all the time sounds like hell. I guess if you're the type of person who hates confrontation you just have to take everyone's crap then and wait to be sacked. I hope you get something better soon.

Eh I'm not really. A large part of confrontation to me involves assuming you are unequivocally and absolutely right and someone is absolutely wrong which don't sit well with me since I know a lot of the issues are all well meaning.

The Job is OK and I'm told folks like me but I'm just paranoid perhaps still we've had good folk leave and are now hiring agency people to come in regularly and fill in the gaps in the staff so it's hard not to have a little concern.

Heh, work paranoia is a lot of fun.

You're sacked for CR-ing at work :grossberg:

EDIT: I'm miffed at myself because I need to get back to gym because my back muscles are weak as shit but I'm too scared. I'd usually just do 2 hours of cardio which is pointless and ended up giving me nothing but plantar fasciitis (which is my excuse for not going for 4 months). But I need to do weights and it's so intimidating even though I know I shouldn't give a toss what all the beefcakes think of me.

That's right. You should only be concerned about what I think of you, right? Right? Don't make me lock you away until you learned your lesson again.

Cardio is not a bad way to relieve stress from your back muscles, but a good form is absolutely required or you're going to make the problem worse. Also when you train your stomach area your back relaxes and vice versa. So if you want to improve your back muscles I'd suggest train: back, chest and stomach. This way you'll train your back and make it more flexible.

Also even if you're not intimidated with 'beefcakes' you might feel uncomfortable around them. And that's fine since most people do for different reasons. I'm quite a big guy and pretty strong, but there are always a few guys who can manage to push double the weight I do (although those guys go daily and I 2 times a week), Ergo I feel uncomfortable even due to being a big dude. Most people don't care what you improve and how much though, since most of the times there's a vibe that you shouldn't mock someone who's trying to get more fit.

Finally, I don't know how much you know about exercising, but the most important part of it is using the correct form. If you're unclear about doing an exercise properly or not achieving the desired effect through your workout ask for corrections or advise from the available staff.

@Sjibbey - hey thanks for the tips. Will definitely try focusing on training my back, chest and stomach. As for form, I definitely don't have any of that right, always manage to hurt myself. The personal trainers are all quite nice but I'd be too shy to ask for help lol.. I was thinking of booking a few sessions with a personal trainer though, one lass lost loads of weight with one of them and looks great.

Why do people seem to attack ME for MY stuff but never other people?! Okay, I mentioned on a forum once that I do not flat out hate the movie Food Fight. I don't say it's good, but I can listen to it and still giggle off and on. You know, a Guilty Pleasure for me.

So why do I get attacked for that?! What, OTHER PEOPLE'S guilty pleasure are okay, but MINE is so terrible that you can't just say "Well if you enjoy it despite it being bad... Ok" no, I get attacked for it! I'm supposedly this terrible person with a terrible sense of (insert ANYTHING) because of this ONE thing.

Cat while your food fight example is pretty unfair a lot of the stuff you throw out can annoy people a great deal and be more provocative than that.

Like walking into an ff7 FANsite and proceeding to mock it maliciously

This wasn't even ON the damn VII forum! It was a different forum. And also, No, I do not complain about other people's guilty pleasures. I am voicing my opinion about a game - I have YET to meet someone on the forums I frequent that honestly said the topical-game of that forum was a guilty pleasure for them.

If you were to speak in Southern Dutch dialect then this would be pretty accurate indeed.

I can't believe people are such unbelieveable ASSHOLES!

I cleaned up the kitchen on Sunday, putting the old plastic into bigger plastic bags, old cans, old glass bottles and such. A total of 5 plastic bags - three filled with old plastic, one with old cans and one with glass bottles. Yeah, I made sure to grab all old plastic and such that I found.

We have collection bins for plastic, cans and bottles of various colors about a 10 minute walk away from home. I go there, want to get rid of this stuff... some ASSHOLE had apparently taken their wardrobe and sofa apart and left the huge, long wooden planks IN FRONT of the collection bins! Asshole, that is SPERRMÜLL!! I don't know the English word, but that's the kind of stuff that goes to the DUMP! NOT the collection bins that are rather big bins but only have small, round openings!

So I got rid of the bottles and plastic, although I had to maneuvre across some stupid wooden planks. Problem was the cans. Asstesticle had put a shit ton of those planks in front of the fucking bin for cans. I had to lean over to throw that shit away. Oh, and FYI, some other assholes couldn't be bothered to go the little extra mile of leaning over and cleaning their cans up, so there were plastic bags full of old cans lying ON the planks, too!

You know what, I take back how I started this post. I CAN believe there are asshole humans who do this shit!

Fuck, I should've taken a picture, sent it to the department of garbage disposal and asked them to please BURN THAT FUCKING SHIT DOWN so it wouldn't be in the way anymore.

Although there is a Dutch word for it (grofvuil) there isn't an English word for Sperrmüll. It means basically means the general garbage. The stuff that isn't recyclable like paper, plastic or bio-degradable waste. It's garbage that falls into the 'other' or 'leftover' category. A literal translation would be: crude garbage.

You know, in case anyone was wondering.
