Virgil is a good counter for everybody. He has good range on his attacks, good damage, good combo potential, good assists, lots of his moves are safe on block, every hit can be followed up with a decent combo, good walking speed, good teleports, good hyper combo's, he pretty much got it all. If you look at high tournaments you almost see Virgil on every team, because he's pretty much top tier.
So yes, he is a good counter to phoenix. The problem is there was 1 update for UMVC3 before Capcom lost the license to Marvel, and Phoenix Wright's assist was NERFED and Virgil was buffed. Sadly Capcom lost it's licence, so no more balancing changes can be made. Now if you look at something like EVO you see Virgil everywhere.
Used to be the case that "Press the Witness" was invincible if you had Phoenix in Turnabout mode right?

Yeah, and to be fair, it was ridiculous. you could throw it out anytime without risk and with great reward. I wish they would boost his walking speed or less chance to get false evidence or something like that to make up for it.

Also in fairness...it only has those awesome properties if you get to turnabout mode, which can be difficult.

Added a new sig, not what I had originally planned. Took the joke letter from Danganronpa Abridged and wrote the text myself to make it legible in a smaller format. Also gave my idea and made it look like the non stop debates in Class Trials, with people shouting random stuff in the background. Hit the purple ones and present ammunition evidence on the orange one~

Yes there is an option below that, but it's not a question mark. It's basically giving you an option to check on Yggdrasill's progression. Still adorably cute and funny.

The meaning of the term has changed substantially since I was a kid...Long story short: Lots of people are more knowledgable about some points of comic book lore thanks to the advent of Marvel and DC cinema (and also to an extent certain games like the Arkham Series).

And I am also one of those people who loved we in these newer movies. Emma Stone's Gwen is kind of like the comics' portrayal, but in the movies she's much smarter and sassier. And all you need to know about Gwen in Spider-Man 3...is that she's just a tool for Peter to fall in love with to make MJ jealous. Other than that, she's pretty bland in the older movies.
