Again, don't bother replying. I'm not leaving because I have no answer to what any of you are posting. I'm leaving the discussion because I'm tired of it, and am drained of this whole ordeal.

These past few weeks have been abysmal for me. My feelings have not changed after she left, and I'm still a living corpse with no life or meaning. I don't need another long-winded discussion to bring me down again. Normally, I'd continue. But not this time. I just have no will to do it anymore.

Don't view this as me being a coward or me stepping down because I've "lost." I can defend my points to the grave. I just don't feel well enough to do so at this time. Thank you for your understanding.

Hey man you're the one who called feminism a "joke" :ron:

I'm not making anyone out to be the bad guy here. I'm saying that I, personally, cannot continue the discussion due to reasons I've already said. I'm simply too tired to go on.

...like last time, when you brought up Feminism and the discussion started? Look, TopHat, discussing is neat and all, but if you really do not actually want to discuss these things for very long (since, yes, it is draining), you really shouldn't bring up these topics that are the type where lots of discussing will start...

You know what really grinds my gears?

The manga thing where everybody seems perfectly incapable of walking home when it's raining and they have no umbrella.

The hell is wrong with these people? It's freaking water, it's not gonna kill you to walk in it without an umbrella. Is this a cultural thing, where it's deemed dishonorable or inappropriate to walk in rain and get your clothes and yourself wet? It seems so easy, I mean, they do have a shower and bath at home, if they get wet and cold, just hop into the shower for a bit to warm up and done. I hate it how everywhere it's "Oh no it's raining. And I don't have an umbrella..." USE YOUR LEGS, YOU MORONS!

Vent station is for minor gripes I thought?

Also for me sometimes it's just easier to wait 5 minutes and see if it goes off...but I live in a climate where the weather is unpredictable.

You can usually tell from the sound of the rain if it's more a passing shower, a cloudburst or something here to stay. And this isn't a minor thing, this is something that overall bothers me whenever it happens - so it's not a venting of a small problem that passes.

I'm pretty sure that the difference between this thread and the vent station is that this is just about stuff that bothers you in general, while the vent station is about venting your frustration at something in your life/ that's happening currently. That's just the way I interpret it.

Anyways, you know what really grinds my gears? Video games that try to be realistic, but it ends up making the game less fun. The whole reason I play games is to ESCAPE from reality, so I don't want stupid gameplay mechanics that make the game less fun and only exist to make it more realistic. An example of this is the stupid injury system from Metal Gear Solid 3. I shouldn't have to go through a long winded series of menus just because I got shot! Trying to make the game realistic completely backfires the moment you have a boss that turns a swarm of bees into a gun. Other than Metal Gear Rising Revengance, Metal Gear Solid 3 is the only game in the series I've played, and the only one I ever plan to have played. You should never sacrifice fun for realism!

Pffft Metal Gear Solid is hardly realistic XD

Why in MGS3 you have a man who is well beyond one hundred, PART PLANT, and needs a wheelchair to get around normally breaking into sprints to outrun a young special forces soldier. Hell you even have G-G-G-Ghosts helping you from time to time.

Metal Gear toes the line between silly and fun, hell in Peace Walker you can literally BENCH PRESS A TANK and walk away fine.

Agreed. That increase in detail demand too much of not only the game's development resources but also of the player's desire to keep playing (at least in my case). Not to mention that discrepancies and errors become more aparent...

How about the fact that for some reason, Big Boss shoots right handed, even though HE HAS NO RIGHT EYE!?

They're apparently fixing that in MGSV though. It seems to be more realistic, but we're obviously going to have the supernatural stuff. One thing that I never understood was the "instant headshot." That doesn't happen in real life. There is no tranquilizer out there that can instantaneously knock out someone. Even if you're shot in the head with a bullet, it's extremely rare to die instantly. You usually fall into unconsciousness first, and then die from blood loss.

You know what grind my gears? A lot of things.

When people invoke that the word now exist so they can use it. Example, until recently the plural of cheval was des chevaux, but with our quebec slang we tend to say des chevals with an s. But do not worry guys! Now instead of correcting people, we make the word an accepted form of in our great language that is french! We always say jousent instead of jouent? Guess what? Now you can say jousent and it's alright. Now I understand we modernize some word like clef into clé because now "ef" doesn't make the same sound (it was like ay). or onion instead of oinion because we don't pronounce the i anymore. But come on! Instead of correcting you make them acceptable!

Same thing with our education system! Contraily to all of you, high school finish after 5 years (you enter at 12 and get out at 17), after that a student can choose to either go find a job or to continue to study at a cégep (a kind of pre university school) in a program technic of 3 years or a pre universitary of 2 years. The base education that is needed to get a decent job is a secondary 5 (high school diploma), but since more and more people are failling to get this on their first try, they lower the bar to pass more people. Then those people have shit time getting use to cégep because they look more like university (I'm glad we have this system because a lot of people woudn't survive in university if it was straith after high school).

Another thing that grind my gears are PMS, because they make me want to rant about everything and invade my brain my suicidal though (fortunatly I seem to replace them more and more by just sad thoughts astime go by).
Please don't hit me...

Porn games

I'm not talking about the ones that are "click button for next scene" Because THOSE AIN'T GAMES
I'm talking about the ones where you gotta click all the correct spots or pass a damn maze before you can do anything.

I guess creators want people to NOTICE all their hard work, so they make them wait to see the goods.

Ok, that's fine.

"You're the master and all of these women are your slaves, they are YOURS to do with as you please!"

Great!

I pick the red headed chick

My body is ready

Click the "item" I want to use on her

Put it in the best hole

"I don't like that"

Ah, I think I know the ones you mean. I overall don't mind them so much, because it's a bit more realistic than most erotic games where it's always "Hi, my name is (Insert Name)." and five seconds later, you're already getting down and dirty. Seems a bit pointless to me. Yeah I get it, sometimes you play these games to get to the good stuff already, but I rather do it this way. Better than erotic games, where, in order to "proceed" I have to move the mouse in certain directions over and over, which is just stupid.

And that what grinds my gear.

You know what really grinds my gears? People misinterpreting statistics in order to make an excuse for their prejudices. These people cite such things as violent crime rates, education, income, and so on by ethnicity in order to paint a particular ethnic group as inherently more violent, less intelligent, lazier, and just generally inferior. They never actually bother to look into why the statistics look the way they do. Rather, they assume that the statistics are a result of the group in question being the way they perceive them. Oh, but you'll never catch them outright saying that they're racist, even though their misuse of statistics suggests that they are. I call these kinds of people "butholes," after the infamous phrase "I'm not racist, but... [insert prejudiced observation here]."

What's even more annoying is their answer when you try to explain how their reasoning is flawed and genetics is not the explanation to those statistics: "herp derp, u politically correct, socialist leftist evil communist herp derp, I'm not biased, I'm just realist!!!"

I'm not saying everyone should be open about being a total racist - I actually don't care if someone is a racist as long as they don't constantly shove it in my face - but I just don't think people should ever say "I'm not racist" because you know there is a But in there somewhere.

I'll readily acknowledge that I harbor some prejudices. The important difference is that I make a conscious effort not to act on them. I hope you'll excuse the Persona 4 comparison, but I feel it's appropriate here: recognizing your Shadow's existence is not the same as allowing it to control you.

I actually went to see the broadway player with my mom back when she used to get tickets for it.

I didn't see anything wrong with the messeges in the play. Also I agree with Cat (for once) that it is true that everyone is abit racist. Even if you don't wanna admit it pierre it is the actual truth. I'm sure you are abit racist inside even if you don't wanna admit it.

I admit I am a bit racist at times.

While personal prejudices are wonderful to recognize (as that's the first step to combating internalized oppression), we should also recognize that racism, sexism, etc. aren't just the personal bigotries of the people around us, but it is (just as well, and more so) systems of oppression that allow privilege to a certain group while actively hindering others. This can be anything from micro-transgressions (bystander behavior, cat-calling, fetishizing and objectification, etc.), to minimizing the experiences of victims (requiring hard evidence for everyday experiences, victim blaming, respectability politics, etc.), to even well-intentioned methods that end up keeping others down (savior complexes; attempting to define a "real" part of a group, excluding legit parts of the community; etc.).

Pierre's point [EDIT: And General Luigi's] (from what I'm reading) wasn't that no one is racist, or "not all people" (well, at least you can't be racist if you're the ones being oppressed), it's that I think Pierre thought Cat Muto was trying to imply that because racism exists, it shouldn't be talked about or fought against. Which while I've known (granted, with very limited experience) CatMuto to not be the most positive person in the world, I doubt she is that apathetic. Misunderstandings happen often, so I don't think anyone's disagreeing with one another necessarily.

I hope you'll excuse the Persona 4 comparison, but I feel it's appropriate here: recognizing your Shadow's existence is not the same as allowing it to control you.

I always felt like screwing the Shadow over in P4 by going, "I acknowledge that this part of me exists... doesn't mean I'll accept it". which shouldn't even cause the Shadow to go berserk and attack me because I am not flat out denying that it's a part of me. Just that I don't accept it.

I think if everyone just keeps their mouth shut about racism and racistic slurs, people will be happier. A reason why I never could take Symphonia's message at the end all that well. It doesn't matter how much time passes, racism won't disappear. The best you can do is to have people keep quiet.

Geno had the gist of it. If we accept that "everybody is a little bit racist" we marginalise racism as insignificant and something to just cope with whereas we should all strive to not be. racist and fight it to the point where we don't deal with it at all rather than accept and ignore it

Sure some prejudices may be inbuilt from upbringing or other situations but by being aware and fair you can recognise them and counteract them.

Like I said I enjoy avenue q plenty sure but if we just laugh stuff off as "everybody is a little bit racist" then not only do we offend folks who don't think they are particularly racist but more importantly we ignore the underlying issues of racism instead of tackling them.

It's not the same as ignoring. If people don't open their mouth about how racist they are or see things, it's like it doesn't exist. Sure it sounds simplified, but it seems better to deal with it that way. If racism really WAS something that we should all strive to not be, people should stop putting emphasis on it and treat it like it's a big deal.

It sounds like you want the benefits of a racism free society without the work. As it is we can't just stop talking about racism right now. It will always be a battle there are people out there who enjoy racism and actively work for it. Hell they probably consider it part of their personal identity to hate others. If one side stops fighting against racism do you think the other side will?

Of course not, that's why its important to not accept it and to keep fighting for equality until so many things are put in place that those who seek to persecute based on race legally and (possibly more importantly) socially can't.

You know what really grinds my gears? When people say that you can't compare two or more things because they are too different. This usually happens in debates of video games or music in the same genre.

We compare things BECAUSE they're different.
