Dammit this makes remembering passwords harder

What I do in those situations is simply capitalize the first letter of my normal password and add a 1 to the end of it.

I tend to have a handful of passwords I use, and they either have a capitalization, a random number added or a letter substituted with a letter, stuff like that.

I don't like sites that force you to start paying to use them.
I just found out 1 view of an image uploaded to photobucket I've linked on an external site counts as 1MB of my 'bandwidth'. Now that 10GB has been used up (the free limit), all my sprites and art I've uploaded are no longer visible, and I'm needing to re-upload things like my OC contest entry again just so they can be viewed. If I'd have known photobucket updating their site would mean a paid subscription is now required to hotlink images, I would've migrated ages ago...

I guess I can't complain though, it means my art's been linked/viewed heaps of times, so I guess that's a good sign :basil:

I don't like games that make you pay every month in order to keep playing; I'd much rather just pay once and play for as long as I want to. I don't get why games like World Of Warcraft are so popular. I could never pay more than once for a game, since games usually can only keep my attention for no more than an hour at a time, and if I play the same game too much, I get bored of it and don't come back to it for about a year or so.

I hate that I know this, but it's a twitch meme. People would ask over and over again what song was playing pre-livestream and so in frustration people just started constantly answering Darude - Sandstorm because it's a popular streaming song.

I don't know much about the darude sandstorm meme either but I think it's essentially where when someone comments on a youtube video saying 'what's the name of the song playing in the background' or something like that then someone post's a link to durade sandstorm, it's really just trolling. As for the keep calm meme it's when someone takes this

You know what really grinds my gears? Being called on the phone any time I'm immersed in something else. It could be a game, it could be a conversation, it could be a movie, it could be petting the cat on my lap, and so on. Nothing kills my immersion quite like that accursed ringing. Even my best friend risks catching me in a bad mood--

The phone just rang. No, seriously, right while I was typing this, the phone rang. Judging by the lack of a voice message, it was probably a charity, telemarketer, or PSA.

As I was saying, even my best friend risks catching me in a bad mood if he calls when I'm particularly engrossed in something. The greater the immersion, the more infuriating it is to be yanked out of it by the ringing of a telephone. Add to that the fact that the majority of people who call my family are telemarketers, PSAs, or charities (I admire charity, don't get me wrong, but if they're calling to ask for donations, they're pretty much doing exactly what telemarketers are doing as far as their approach is concerned), and my frustration is inevitable; I will always suspect upon hearing the phone ring that it's not going to be anyone I'm interested in talking to.

[sigh] Were they not a necessity for most people in my part of the world, I would take every telephone in my house and chop them up with a hatchet.

Reminds me of my old friend who always had a habit of showing up at my door unannounced as I sat down to study.

Grinds my gears whenever I open the dishwasher and find its cleaned but barely full. Means we wasted water and I need to waste time putting them away when I'd much rather do one big clean than lots of little ones.

You know what really grinds my gears?

When I say men and women should be treated equally in the work force. As in, women should earn as much money as men for equal work, and then people are like, "Oh, you're all for equality, then? Then we should all share the same bathroom!"

Uh, no, that's not what I'm saying. Since when did the term "equality" become a bad thing? I'm not suggesting we drag men down to make women their equals. I'm not anti-men! I'm just saying sexism still exists, it affects both genders, and we need to stop freaking thinking that "equality" means dragging those of higher status in society down. That's not what I'm suggesting. Heck, that's not what most feminists are suggesting.

Speaking of which, do you know what else really grinds my gears? Atheists on youtube who are also sexist or misogynist. It doesn't make sense. Atheists want to be treated equally...Oh, sorry. "Equally" means dragging Christians down. I mean...fairly. And women want to be treated fairly, too. So why are these influential Atheists against feminism? You'd think they'd make natural allies! Seriously. "Equality" "Atheist" and "feminist" are all dirty words in my state, and it drives me nuts. Equality does not mean dragging people down, Atheist does not mean "anti-Christianity" or "anti-religion" (although some Atheists do fall under these categories) and feminist does not mean "anti-men" (although there are some feminists who are, but those are in the minority). I thought this was America, with free speech and all that. So why is it socially unacceptable to say these words in public, again? v_v.

But that IS what it means.
Freedom of Opinion = Freedom of Speech.
I can be a STUPID opinion, it can be a MEAN opinion, but a person is entitled to their opinion nonetheless.

You know what else really grinds my gears (in a related topic)? People who say horrible, mean things, then say, "Freedom of Speech. I can say whatever I want and you shouldn't be offended." First of all, yes, I can be offended by what you say. Secondly, these same people get very offended once you disagree with them on anything, no matter how respectfully you put your opinion. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Freedom of speech also means that if you say something stupid or offensive, other people have the right to call you out on it. It's subject to limitations, though. For example, the First Amendment won't protect you if you try to incite violence or otherwise say things that could reasonably be expected to lead to someone getting hurt (such as yelling "fire" in a crowded theater). It's also worth pointing out that freedom of speech doesn't apply on the Internet, as anyone who has been banned from a forum for flaming would know.

You know, that kind of Social Darwinist пиздабольство grinds my gears, too. For me, it tends to get to me more when it's used in favor of laissez-faire capitalism (I think "economic barbarism" is a better term for how it works in practice), but the same flawed reasoning applies to some arguments against such things as feminism. Equality isn't about dragging down the strong to prop up the weak; it's about preventing those in an advantageous position from using that position as a means of hurting those in a disadvantageous position (or rather, keeping them from leaving that disadvantageous position).

Though actually the reason bathrooms are segregated is because of sexism. Or so I've heard from Stuff Mom Never Told You, which tends to tackle a bunch of feminist issues.

But yeah, Lida, I feel the pain. Oh, and when people ask me to qualify if I'm a "good" feminist and not a bad feminist. As if the majority are evil, and I need to classify myself as the "good" ones. Not that there aren't TERFs and SWERFs out there, but seriously- respectability politics gets TIRESOME. It gets worse when some random dude that things he's so progressive is like "lemme look at your feminism and see if I like it, and would therefore be 'one of the good ones' instead of those other feminists". Like, who made you the sole judge of feminists? Or ask me if I've been "hurt by a man". I've been hurt by plenty of people, but this isn't about my dating life, and this isn't a revenge act, nor is it something to "get back at daddy" (whom, as a matter of fact, supports me in this endeavor).

Also, since when did certain, prominent Atheists (especially those in America) forget that they all owe the entirety of their rights to be as such to a woman fighting legal battles to fight for those rights (I can't find her name at the moment... but I remember seeing a documentary about her)? I hate respectability politics, and worse yet I feel for the majority of atheists that will be feeling the bad press from these jerks.

I get the same thing all the time with regards to socialism. Thanks to the Soviet Union and various dictatorships that were once within its sphere of influence, I often see people (at least here in the United States) treat the word "socialist" as though it's a synonym for "tyrant" or "Stalinist." It doesn't matter how much we decent socialists try to distance ourselves from the likes of Stalin and Mao, either; the haters don't listen. It's just like the people demanding that Muslims condemn terrorism. Hello? They condemn it all the time. It's not their fault you never bother to plug anything along the lines of "Muslims condemn terrorism" into Google and/or summarily dismiss any such condemnations as lies. It's the same with socialists; nothing we do will convince these people that the monsters of the Cold War do not represent us.

Even if they didn't (and as you say- a cursory google search finds that they have already multiple times over), demanding that Muslims distance themselves from terrorism is like demanding Christians to distance themselves from the Westboro Baptist Church and other extremists. By demanding a group to distance themselves from an extremist group already carries the acknowledgment that the extremist group doesn't belong to the larger group. So why the demands?

Because respectability politics.

Well also for security reasons - cause you know if we had unisex bathrooms everywhere, you'd know there'd be at least one asshole (male or female) that would peek on men/women on the toilet. No, that will not go away if everyone treats everyone equally and with respect. It's disgusting human nature. Might as well as people to stop shitting. :ron: which, FYI, isn't very healthy... trust me

We've heard this one a billion times. It's amazing people think that people haven't heard these things before. *Ahem*

If you are for gender equality, you are a feminist. That in and of itself should be simple enough. In fact, allow me to go break out Merriam-Webster.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/feminism

Feminism:
1: the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities
2: organized activity in support of women's rights and interests (I'll expand on this later)

But let's go with this line of logic down to its end. This would mean that people supporting racial equality are bigots because they're "on one side". This would mean that people that fight for LGBTQ rights harbor hatred of the cisgendered and the straight of the world. You see how this doesn't work out, yeah?

But wait, aren't men oppressed and constrained by sexism? Very much so. By a patriarchal system wherein privilege is extended more heavily to males whom adhered to standards of masculinity as opposed to femininity. And even then, males whom are at the bottom rung of masculine privilege still enjoy many benefits they take for granted that a woman that does more would ever see. There's a reason that the majority of insults a guy can be called (or at least the most common) are rooted in a lack of masculinity (yes, even the homophobic ones)- for the worst thing for a man to be is apparently a woman. Feminism (Third Wave, in particular) wants to see people be able to express themselves in a comfortable environment, where being a female (or trigendered, non-gendered, what have you) isn't the worst thing in the world.

Y'see that word there? "Privilege"? That's why "humanist" is a bunk label. It erases the fact that there are people that is a system of social stratification based on your sex, the color of your skin, your religion, et cetera. Words are a powerful thing, DoMaya, and people can get easily erased from the conversation when we play pretend with "humanist". We're all humans deserving of rights, but feminism concentrates on the fact that there is disparity in the treatment and quality of life when it comes to the genders.

But I've used an example before, so listen well: feminism is only one part of human rights being fought for. Think of it like a hospital. Sure, there's general doctors, but there's specialists, right? Does an oncologist hate the heart? Do cardiologists hate bones? No. They work as hard as they can to help fix what's wrong in the best way they can. Specialists are familiar with a problem inside and out, and is more equipped and prepared to deal with their specialty than a general doctor, and even more so than a doctor from another specialty. In that same vein, there are people fighting for the right to not be racially profiled, to be able to be afforded an equal footing wherever they go. There are people fighting for the rights of the disabled, as society frequently inhibits them as well. So maybe in a sense we're all humanists.

The above example is why intersectionality is so important in Third Wave feminism, as the first and second waves were mostly about what was best for straight, white, Christian feminists. Now working with previously even further disenfranchised groups like women of color, women of disabilities, lesbians, transgendered men and women (as both of them were seen with suspicion), and even sex workers. This is why TERFs (trans exclusionary radical feminists) and SWERFs (sexual worker exclusionary radical feminists) are looked upon with shame within the community.

Whenever a woman is given custody of the children by the sole nature of the fact that she's automatically seen as more "nuturing" in a divorce is bad, as fathers can be damned good parents and equally as nuturing. Feminism wants equality there. Whenever a woman is replaced in her job during pregnancy, leaving them without work or even a demotion? Feminism wants equality there.

Feminism is for everyone. When women are free, men are as well. Gender equality isn't gender domination. We don't need to re-brand, we need to make sure people are informed about who we are.

Indeed. If it had gone to that, I'd have made a report instead of replying.

I think it's more that it's always a standstill conversation where nothing gets resolved.

Though that's adequately described some of my experiences. Then again, I'm not generally a hear-and-now person when it comes to people I don't know that well.

You know what really grinds my gears? People treating freedom of speech as though it's a free pass to say whatever they want without any negative consequences. It doesn't work that way unless you're the only person to which freedom of speech applies. Freedom of speech just means the state can't restrict what you say (threats to public safety--and hate speech and harassment in some cases--notwithstanding). It doesn't mean your fellow citizens are forbidden to respond negatively to the stuff you say. If you say something offensive, freedom of speech might protect it (check your local hate speech and harassment laws first, though). However, if you try to invoke freedom of speech when I call you out on your remarks, I will invoke freedom of speech myself by calling you an asshole.

Basically this. Only thing I can add is that ignoring/blocking someone doesn't constitute censorship, as well.

Absolutely this. Everyone's all "I can say that cause the first amendment" yeah, Genius, did you read that the first amendment means THE STATE may not silence you? You can say "I hate my government" all you want. Especially when they use it on the internet. Freedom of Speech is all over that place, regardless of their country. You call something crap, I will point out to you why your points seem exaggerated, based on the wrong thing or just personal opinion that you're writing out very strongly. (Which is your opinion and fine, just don't turn out and say I need to shut up cause I'm "wrong" you asshole)

I GENERALly agree with you. (yup it's Friday and almost weekend)

But the hate speech and harassment aspect of it is walking on a thin line. Since taking offence is subjective to each person and certain groups you can't legislatively 'draw a line' somewhere. Since terms of legal and illegal are directly linked to laws you'll have to either open every option (total free speech) or make certain topics taboo (like certain dictatorships). In addition to the taboo part, when one subjects gets a free pass for debate other subjects will also try to gain that protected status, resulting in less and less free speech.
Threats withstanding (acts of violence and terror) I do think it's best to allow people to say hateful or harassing things to one another. It opens up the debate. That said if you say hateful or harassing things you can expect resistance from the person or group your lashing out against and you need to be OK with that.
Look at famous dictators through history. Most of them used 'a common enemy' to unify his people for his own rule. This would mostly be done through hate and harassment. This was horrible off course, but it also shows that there are fundamental problems within that certain society. Unrest, reluctance, being unsure of the future. These bottled up feeling were horribly exploited when it reached a boiling point through charismatic political figures. The point I'm trying to make with this example is: if you were to make it a legal offense to give hateful or harassing speeches you're going to oppress the true opinion of some (often misguided) people. Usually it's not the hate itself that's the problem, but the problems lying underneath. To bottle that up until a boiling point has proven in history to have dangerous consequences.
Face your emptiness don't be afraid. The danger is often smaller than your fear.

My statement about hate speech and harassment was simply an acknowledgement that some places have laws restricting such language. I was neither condemning nor condoning those policies.

Hahahha. Did someone let off fireworks in your area last night, Louise? Because they sure did in my town (fortunately, I was driving at the time, and the finale happened just as I passed it).

Can't you call the cops on them for disturbance of peace? Or a firework-ban? I read some places have those.
