I remember reading that book also back in High School and I remember from loving it to being depressed by the end of the book. This is one of the only 4 books I would like to read again from my high school days.

I'm currently reading Planar Chaos (Magic: The Gathering), Garfield at 25: In Dog Years, I'd be Dead , Introduction to Dog Training Profession and PW: JFA Case 4. (Yes, I Count PW as Reading Material! Garyuu)

Frankenstein's Monster (by Mary Shelly Wollenstonecraft) is a good book, and an excellent topic for an AP essay on how scenery/countrysides play a role in telling a story (nailed that one!) and how romantic and gothic elements joined together.

1984 and Night are both excellent, albeit depressing books. I think you'll like 1984.

A midsummer Night's Dream is alright, although I think Hamlet was much better.

But, I'm a philosophy guy, so I'm reading Essays and Aphorisms by Arthur Shopenhauer and Fear and Trembling by Soren Kierkegaard.

Also, waiting for godot is something I really dislike, although I dislike a lot/most of contemporary stuff like that. Even though, apparently, a play about 2 guys doing pretty much nothing is pretty popular these days.

Man, I am jealous. I want to read Philip K. Dick, but reading his books are like a hassle. I've read a few - A Scanner Darkly, VALIS, Flow My Tears The Police Man Said - all of them were just so...ughh, dry. I couldn't do it. I take them out at least every 3 months and try again and I just can't do it.

Heh, heh, heh, earlier this year we had to read Animal Farm for English. One time our teacher was off, and we were given a strip from a comic of Animal Farm (Who'd actually buy that?) and had to copy out a picture for a new front cover for Animal Farm. I'll scan mine in once I can find my English book...
What I'm reading right now? Beating the Moldovians at Tennis by Tony Hawks. I've just started actually, having finished Round Ireland with a Fridge by Tony Hawks. Damn the publishers, putting the first chapter of a different book at the end!

Oh, boy. We read that for English and had to memorize Antony's funeral oration. It really really...for lack of a sophisticated word, sucked. :'D

Other than having to memorize that, though, I liked it a lot!

Down and Out in London and Paris by George Orwell.

It's certainly got me turning the pages :P Very slowly progressing through it with quick bursts of reading between lessons. Although it may have been written a while ago, it's message about poverty (and how he survived through it) is timeless.

Finished Scorpia by Anthony Horowitz earlier today for the umpteenth time. That book rocks. I'll probably re-read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix soon, but for now, I think I'll re-read Skybreaker, or maybe go to the library and check out Airborn (both by Kenneth Oppel) again.

I'm waiting for Voyage of Slaves by Brian Jacques to come in to the library, I have it on hold, but it's taking a while to get in there.

I've been reading a lot of material for my English Literature class, and I've really gotten into the classics. I'm currently reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it Edgy.

Some of my past favorites have been Sir Thomas Moore's Utopia (Norton anthology translation), and King Lear by (who else) William Shakespeare.

I'm re-reading Battle Royale. For what would've been an ultra controversial move if this had gotten out/if a kid's parents freaked out, my teacher sort of assigned this to us to read (although it was "optional, but recommended"). In a discussion about the themes of the book, I freaked out my teacher and class-mates with answers to certain ethical questions.. but I'm sure it's only because I checked out all things Battle Royale a long time ago and have been ultra desensitized at this point- in other words, don't care much about discussing it and would rather play a more sarcastic role.

Now I get to choose a character and sympathize with them the most. Oh Kiriyama, you're going to be fun.
