Anyone got any stories about the place where they work? You know, bad customers, stupid customers, weird wacky things happen while trying to make coffee, etc.

I work in a place which preps library books and one of my jobs is to look up names in one database and import them into another. Some people out there have some pretty interesting names. Including one guy whose first name was "Orly". I forget the last name, but I know it started with a B... There was also an Adrianne Andrews. >> Soooo close...

There's a large amount of people out there and in the past with the last name "Butz" (many of them were earls, dukes, and other high class people). One of them was "Manfred Butz". :3 Coincidence? HECK NO! DESTINY! :larry: / :ka-whip: FOREVER BABY!

I also have to print out information on some books. Today I was assigned government documents and one such document consisted of only one sheet of paper. The title page, and then two lines of text on the back. There was no sign of it being torn out of something, and the stamp on the back was the same stamp on the back of all the other documents. Apparently Congress had very little or absolutely nothing to say about the inauguration of the people in the title...

Back at my old job, people use to race with those wheeled chairs.

It was pretty funny when someone hit the wall.

I work as a cashier in a greenhouse.

Either my customers are genuinely retarded or there's a flower spreading stupidity spores.

Here are a few stories:

A customer comes by my register, points to it, and asks : "Is this a register?" Not : "Is this register open?" or "Can I pay here?"

"Is this a register?"

I was tempted to say : "No, it's a cyberpunk flower arrangement."

* * *

Here's a conversation, again:

"I want cedar mulch. I'll drive around back and see how many bags I can fit in the van."
"Uh, no, that's not how it works. You pay first, then you put them in."
"Thanks."

And he proceeds to... go around back, and haul the mulch in. To a point where one of our senior workers told him to get the hell off the property after unloading everything they put in.

Library work is for winners!

Let's see... I have... Maimed myself with books, bookshelves, and book carts... I managed through a tragic series of events to get the wheels of my fully loaded cart stuck in the gap between the elevator and the floor (and had to go find someone significantly stronger than me to remove my cart from the elevator).. I have had a cart, full of books, nearly tip over.. And in the process of preventing the cart from tipping... Ended up with large bruises on my shins, and a pile of books on the floor.

But aside from maiming myself and generally doing embarrassing things.. The names on the reserves are pretty cool sometimes. We had a Marlene Barret once.. Totally FF7 reference, kthx. I haven't had any Phoenix Wright characters mentioned.. yet.. But.. Now I have something to do on my break.. Search the patron database! I used to keep a list of my weird finds, but I have no idea where it is anymore.

I also have to do battle with the homeless, genealogists, and teenagers who think boobies are funny. Genealogists are the worst for the record.
