At the weekend we met up with an Internet friend who is currently fostering a failed racing greyhound in the hope of finding him a pet home. He's never had a chase instinct so was on the scrapheap at 15 months old poor lad, but luckily a dog rescue took him in before he was sent off to the ractrack in the sky.

He'd been saddled with the uninspiring name of CHUM after a brand of dog food, but didn't answer to it. We were fussing him and cooing but I jokingly told her that I couldn't possibly take him home as due to my current gaming obsessions he'd end up being called either Phoenix or Edgey, poor lad!

Anyway - found out today that the name Phoenix has stuck in her mind and she has decided to call him that herself because it's a cool name and hopefully he'll rise from the ashes of a racing career to be a family pet :)

So meet Phoenix Wright: Ace Greyhound :edgy:

I just thought it was funny - I seem to be infecting people with PW-ness at the moment :)

I'm very glad that this story has a happy ending-too many don't-and Phoenix is very cute! (Though, I must admit, I've never seen a black Greyhound before.)
I hope it all works out and the dog settles in nicely. :edgy:
*laugh* PW infects everyone, it seems, sooner or later and it makes me wonder what the heck Capcom is putting in that game to make it so addicting. :moe-laugh:

Black is the predominant colour of greyhounds apparently - they are also the hardest to home because they're so common and people consider them boring. Many don't make it to rehoming centres as a result, especially males.

We've had two foster greys ourselves in the past (both black) and they've gone on to very happy homes :)

I thought this was going to be some parody of the Ace Attorney games...

If I ever get a really little dog, I'd probably name it Yoda.

It makes me so sad, how people can abandon dogs (well, animals in general, really) so easily. He's a pretty dog...I hope your friend is able to find him a good home.

...also, I would completely name pets after video game characters. XD

Yeah, I have two rescue dogs myself and help out and support a couple of lurcher/greyhound rescues where I can. It is really upsetting sometimes, but it can be happy too.

Greyhounds are like, the stupidest animals I've ever encountered, next to woodland deers and multiple species of rodents. Even if you do encounter a smart one, it'll look dumb as shit with that empty-eyed-doe look.

Yeah they're not the brightest dogs in the stratosphere, and I don't think any greyhound rescuer worth their salt would deny it. But they are very addictive regardless.

My foxhound likes to eat shit. And she tries to play with dogs who want to kill her. And chase bikes, especially motor bikes. She also never comes when she is called. Her name is Lucy, but I've always thought of her as Loosey Stools, because she gets diarrhea when she eats cheese.
