If you know the Metroid Prime series, you know Retro Studios and the awesome (or less awesome for some people) work they did with the Metroid franchise. If not, well...
But what's interesting about them is that ever since they finished Metroid Prime 3, they've been working on a (secret) game that has yet to be revealed. Last E3, they told that they were deep in a new project, and according to IGN, this game would be... a Donkey Kong game! After the awesome bounty hunter Samus Aran, it would be dear ol' DK's turn to be revived by Retro Studios. It's still a rumour, but that one is probably one of the most credible we've seen recently. So... we'll have to wait a few more hours for Nintendo's E3 conference, and see whether that rumour was true...

***

Personal thoughts: if it'd be true, I have to admit I'd be really disappointed... not only because I'm not really a fan of DK, but most of all, because I was expecting a brand new IP from them (maybe that game they were supposedly working along with Metroid Prime, but I don't know much about it... Raven Blade it was called. It was cancelled.).
Anyway, even if they were working on a DK game, I'd be sure to check it out nonetheless... being a huge fan of them (I mean, Retro Studios :p)!

I'll be honest, I've never been much of a DK fan either.

The DKC trilogy is nothing special IMO, and DK64 is collecting: the game.

However, Retro Studios is a great company so I'll check it out.

Ha, I have just the opposite opinion. I LOVED the DKC trilogy, although I really don't like MP. At all.

I'm be interested to see just what they'd do with it though.

I'm apparently in the middle, I LOVED both DKC and MP, and I for one am excited to see what they do.

(Prays it's actually a PLATFORMER and not something completely ridiculous.)

That hits the nail on the head. :butzthumbs:

If this rumor does turn out to be true, Retro will certainly have much lower expectations to meet than they did with Metroid Prime. There hasn't been a great Donkey Kong game since the original SNES trilogy (just my opinion, of course), so anything halfway decent at this point will have a lot of us in ecstasy.

Seconded. But all I'm saying is if it turns out to be 'Donkey Konga who-cares what number,' or something, I'm going to eat my Wii.

Retro would not be Retro if they did such a terrible thing as that. They would be Nintendo.

True, but remember, if they give us anything that even REMOTELY resembles DKC, the fanbase will eat it up, even if it's crao. (Which I don't think will happen) Besides, when was the last time Donkey Kong was actually in a tolerable game? That was not Smash Bros., I mean.

I agree completely. All I meant to say was that it would not be hard for them to impress, considering the recent track record.

Never really got to actually play a DK game, but if this turns out to be true, I might just have to check it out.

Just one more day for Nintendo's conference woop. Microsoft's sucked big time, and Sony's won't be that big, I'm certain, so Ninty will not win, ROCK this show: Zelda Wii and 3DS alone do it, but there's also the surprise announcements that will most probably include games like Layton 3, maybe a new StarFox or F-Zero, the postponed Kirby Wii, and (please God) Super Punch-Out!! Wii.

As much as I'd like to believe this, I have to say I'm extremely sceptical at the moment and won't be getting my hopes up.

I don't quite understand the OP as the post is one big contradiction. But I was always a fan of DK64, but not the DKC series. So I'll keep an eye on this.

Wow, I can't belief it...one of my dearest childhood game series is coming back...I had every DKC game + the various game boy titles and the N64 one...but no later title could give me back the feeling of the first trilogy.

Now finally I can hope to see a wish becoming true!

P.S. the trailer looks really DKC like, want more :edgy:

Yep, because I had originally written

Quote:
being a huge fan of them

the them directly referring to the DK games... which is not what I wanted to say. I'm a huge fan of Retro Studios (I'm currently savouring every second of Metroid Prime 2), not of DK games. Thanks for poiting out that contradiction :)

And dunno why, but watching that trailer just got me psyched for that game... though I'll wait for reviews and such, as I'm not too fond of platformers. But we'll see :)

I was already floored from the rest of the conference, but as soon as the music started I instantly knew I had yet another game to buy. It's been what, five years since the last real Donkey Kong platformer, and something like 15 years since the last DKC-style game? Long overdue, I'd say.
