OK, let's face it, although there are some good video game-inspired movies and such there are also some really bad ones. What are your least favorite ones?

As for me, I'd have to say the Super Mario Bros. movie. That was just terrible. It had absolutely nothing to do with Mario and it was just weird.
Say, that reminds me of a puzzle! Have you ever heard this one, Luke?

The new Prince of Persia movie would like to have a word with you...

Anyways, there have been quite a few bad video-game based movies, but some of the most infamous does indeed include the Super Mario Bros movie. To be honest, I don't know much about these kind of movies, because I rarely watch them (and even if I do, memory tends to blank out on me at the end). I was legitimately disappointed with the Yu-Gi-Oh movie (Part of me is denying that I went there for any reason other than to get the rare cards...which I lost...FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-) and it does count, as it's a movie, based on an anime, based on a children's card game.

Probably 'Plumber's Don't Wear Ties'.

It's a game, but it classifies itself as 'a movie'.

Hey man, the Super Mario Bros. movie is classic! Sure it makes no sense, but how could it? They were obviously trying to go for a teen-to-adult-geek demographic (the only people that played video games back then) and a cheery, colorful Mushroom Kingdom just wasn't going to cut it. So they went WACKO! Hilarity ensues.

Not exactly Oscar material but I can't damn it for not having enough to do with Mario, because a Mario movie that was faithful would be just plain kiddy.

But as for Worst I humbly offer up Resident Evil 3, wherein the T-Virus turns the world into a desert, Alice has psychic powers, and Umbrella is STILL making biological weapons. Guess what, guys--there's no one left to purchase them. Plus it's just bad and there's no Leon.

Also a nod everything made by Uwe Boll.

I thought the Street Fighter movie was particularly bad. The biggest grief most people gave it was that Guile was played by Jean-Claude can Damme. Of course, physically he looked the part, but his accent was all wrong for the all American Hero. I saw it when I was younger, and thought it was extremely lame. I think they took some liberties with Ryu and Ken as well. I don't remember them being thieving con artists in the games.

I used to think Mortal Kombat was awesome when I was younger, but upon seeing it again I realized how corny it was. Still, it's probably not the worst out there.

Wasn't there also a 3D animation Final Fantasy movie that was universally panned? I never saw it, so I don't know what it was called. It wasn't the one based on VII.

Final Fantasy: Spirits Within? I've seen a little of it, but but didn't seem like FF-material..... unless there were shiny floating orbs everywhere? (That's like FFX-material...)

Universally panned, I don't know, but one game-inspired movie that sucked was House of the Dead. I cry in mental agony that Dr. Curien wasn't in it and that G and the AMS didn't show up until the very end. House of the Dead II then followed suit by being better than the first, yet it still sucked.

People seem to have overlooked the complete traversty of justice that is the Alone in the Dark movie.

Either that, or no-one has actually seen it which is probably the Right Thing given how atrociously bad it is. Avoid.

I think I've already seen that, actually. But if I have, then I clearly don't remember how scarringly horrible it was.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li was ultimately worse... :lana:

And I have to say that the live-action King of Fighters movie was total ass. :chinami: Im glad SNK Playmore was not involved with the horrendous production.

True, at least the first was SOMEWHAT enjoyable, (You have to admit, "CHANGE THE CHANNEL!" was a little funny)

And looking back, the Super Mario Bros. movie wasn't as horrible as my child mind thought it was. (But Mario Mario is still one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.)

I admit that I did see that movie for the same thing (But at least you got them, the movie theater that I went to dodn't even have the friggin' promotion)

OH GOD, NOT THAT!
Technically it doesn't count since it's not inspired by a game but that doesn't change the fact that it's absolutely horrible.

I said not AS horrible as I thought it was. It still was a nonsensical mess, just not as terrible as I remembered. And what the hell is that thing.

I'd also add the 3 Mario Bros. TV Series,(especially the Super Show.) but they were nowhere near as bad as the Zelda show. The Pac-man show, (seriously, WTF?) was another awful one, at least as far as I remember.

Also, I wish to add that I was technically incorrect. The Yu-gi-Oh! movie was based on an anime, based on a manga. (nerd moment) In fact, the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga, I believe, originally had nothing to do with the trading card game we know today, at least, until it was several volumes in.

So many to choose from. I won't go with Street Fighter, because I find it to be so awful it's hilariously good. Mario falls under this. Objectively, the worst is probably either Alone in the Dark for pure suckage, or Resident Evil for pure meh-age despite a franchise with the potential to make good movies about.

I contend Prince of Persia is the only objectively good video game movie.

Seconded. The whole reason I said it wasn't as horrible now as it was then was because I look at it now and think 'Good God, who in the right mind oversaw this whole thing and thought it was a good idea?'

XD I'm fairly sure the Mario actor, Bob Hoskins, didn't like it either.

Spoiler: The quote from Mario wiki
"The worst thing I ever did? Super Mario Brothers. It was a fuckin' nightmare. The whole experience was a nightmare. It had a husband-and-wife team directing, whose arrogance had been mistaken for talent. After so many weeks their own agent told them to get off the set! Fuckin' nightmare. Fuckin' idiots."

I remember watching the mario movie when i was a kid. I only saw it once, so I don't remember D:
what I remember is that bowser was a guy, and it was named "koopa"
that was dissapointing. but yoshi was a dinosaur out of Jurassic Park!

the upcoming RE movie seems kinda... not RE, I mean I watched the trailer and it doesn't look like something I would like to see.
but I heard that wesker is there...

Resident Evil: Degeneration, I really enjoyed that movie. :D

Huh... that kinda explains a lot. Makes me wonder if, perhaps with some crew changes, the movie could have been enjoyable, in the normal sense anyway.

Quote:

Bowser was called King Koopa in just about everything that wasn't the games themselves back then, if I remember correctly.

Spirits Within was just fine. Not as a Final Fantasy movie, but it's not bad at all if you just turn your brain off and enjoy the sci-fi action.

I'm guessing she meant the Super Mario Bros. movie, maybe? Either way, a SSB movie would be awesome, even if it sucked.

Heard it's one of the very few good game movies. Directed by the guy who did the Pokemon movies, and it's Layton, so it HAS to be good. Now let's hope the dub doesn't suck.

I still stand that the Mario Movie is the worst game movie ever.

Well, maybe not as bad as Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

It's Uwe Boll. He's got such an ego that no matter how many pegs you knock him down, it'd STILL be the size of at least a Death Star. He's just that way. Don't try to bother pointing out the flaws, he's too arrogant to care.
