FREE GAME FOR YOUR PC DECEMBER 17th.

Finally nice to see Capcom doing something with Mega Man. Best part about this too is that it's free, so I honestly can't complain about that at all. My only concern, is how is this going to relate to the laws of robotics since Mega Man isn't allowed to kill humans. Still, this game looks pretty neat and I may check it out. I'm a big fan of the blue bomber, I just wish I wasn't so terrible at platformers when it comes to playing them on the PC...

Simple, they are robots programmed by Seth/M. Bison/other villain and they store the combat data of the street fighters.

That or Zero comes into kill them every time cause he don't care.

Though I think Street Fighter crossing over is a bit ridiculous by this point though.

Yeah, to be honest, I wish they'd do something more with Mega Man to be honest. Seeing the treatment that Sonic Team gave to Sonic with Generations and what Nintendo has done with Zelda, Mario, and Kirby for their anniversaries, it just really saddens me how Capcom has no love for what has practically been their mascot since the beginning.

It should be noted that this first started out as a fan-game. Guess Capcom saw it and asked them to make it for them or something. Could also explain why the game is free and for PC.

That would explain why the game was free. (And on PC for that matter). The whole thing seemed really out of character for Capcom. But knowing the game is a fan project made cannon, my conspiracy senses are no longer tingling.

Still, it makes me wonder if Capcom itself has anything in store.

Knowing now that it's a fan project....if they don't pull anything out it seems a bit lazy.

Mind you didn't Keiji Inafune leave them?

I could leave CR. CR would still be standing and Croik, Bolt, Gerk, Ash and others would keep it going.

On the one hand, it's a cool idea, but on the other, making a fangame your first 'traditional' release in a while is a little... yeah. Hopefully we'll get something a little more official soon.

Wait, sorry, nevermind. Forget I said anything. :redd:

True, but could anybody really make the site look as spiffy as what you have done?

As for the game being fanmade, from what I've heard, it's partway true. It started out as a fangame, but I heard that Capcom did eventually get involved with the development and production, so I'd call it as more of a semi-fangame.

Still, I'm saying this. It's a free Mega Man game, which to me, is much MUCH more than what I was expecting Capcom to come out with at all. Besides, the trailer does look neat enough. Hey, just because I detest the company doesn't mean I'm going to abstain from playing a fun game they come out with.

Yes but I mean perhaps his leaving means Capcom can't release anything 'new' about Megaman so to speak, seeing as this game is made with old sprites.

After all if Wooster left we couldn't use the Wooster Seal of Approval.

=P My point was that no man is an island. Inafune may have indeed done lots of amazing things with Megaman, but he wasn't the only who left their hand print on the blue bomber. Sometimes the absence of someone great creates a vacuum where someone else gets the opportunity to step up and do great things themselves. Though, I'm admittedly not sure modern Capcom is conducive to that.

Maybe. But I think I got started on this path because some one told me "Here, go install this mod on this phpBB2 board". I was like "O_o Why are you asking me this?" (Turned out the admin had zero patience and simply didn't want to do it himself). I had no skills, no talent, didn't know what FTP was. And somehow that ultimately blossomed into an obsession with CSS. There could be other creative geniuses here, and no one, not even themselves know it. The trick is to give them an opportunity.

It really is weird how so many franchises have celebrated their milestones recently...

But yeah, from the trailer it looks like it's also the anniversary of Street Fighter so at least it would make sense that Capcom would give them a crossover for their birthdays...

Quite frankly I think the idea's great, even if it was lifted from a fangame. Some might think it's a bit lazy, but actually recognizing a fangame isn't something that happens all that often, especially from people like Capcom. Besides, it's free. We haven't got much to complain about even if it turns out to be about the caliber of most fangames.

Though I do have one question that may or may not have already been answered. Did Capcom do anything to the creator's original or is it just stamping their logo on it?

WELL I'M SUPER STOKED!

I mean, after all that time a new megaman game? with Street Fighter bosses?
for FREE?

True, the rockman deserves more love (or any love as of lately) but this game is a wonderful gesture and I can't wait to play it!

So Sven knows that there are "other" fan-games, eh? :keiko:

Just one more day to play this. Cool to know that the boss's don't have patterns and are unpredictable like in the fighting games.

I'm kinda upset that I'll be too busy to play it until vacation next week, but at least I've got the game. Can't wait to sink my teeth into it. Just hate that I have the tendency to suck at any platformer when playing on my computer, as opposed to excelling at them when I play them on the television. Fancy that anomaly.

Be sure to have enough time when you play this game because it doesn't have a save or password function. You gotta play the game in 1 sitting.

The one thing I find off-putting about this game (aside from the lack of a save function and story) is that there is no distinction between the foreground and background details (two examples of this are in Chun Li's and Rolento's stages) which can make the platforming a bit weird at times. Otherwise, after having some playtime with five of the stages aside from Rose, Viper, and Urien this game isn't that bad. Doesn't hurt when the music is catchy too.

EDIT: Played up to the ??? stage 2 until I accidentally hit the escape key on my computer and wiped my progress...

Aside from that incident, I can still say that Blanka's weapon is the clumsiest thing I've seen.
