Streets of Rage would have given the game a T or M rating, they want sonic to be for all ages, so they got rid of the SoR games to get it an E10+ rating.

If this is the case, then the new SoR game will be one of the greatest next-gen game of all time! ;P.
They need to take a step back and rethink their strategy before they throw themselves headlong into another project.

Well I waited almost 6 years for a true Phantasy Star Online sequel and was let down by a mediocre PSU.

That's where one of the problems lies. By trying to make Sonic "all ages" they have dumbed it down way too much. They know kids want 3-D so instead of making a 2-D game of higher quality they instead produce a 3-D one that will sell well. The reviews of Sonic Rush show that there is a strong group of people who want a return to Sonic's roots, but money wins out every time.

I don't mind the sonic charracters, which I feel has a nice charracter design, but the gameplay was rather.... bad. Sorry. I never liked Sonic, and I never really cared about Sega. They just failed to produce good enough video games, and failed to make good enough consoles, compared to what Sony and Nintendo did. So the fact that everyone else were better than the mediocre Sega... killed it.

I stand by the statement that the first two 3D sonic's were great for their time, but Sega's inability to fix the problems the games had (mainly the camera) screwed more or less all future Sonic games.

What're you guys talking about? Though it may be because I don't play too many Sega games (but I am a huge Sonic fan) I can't see where it's sucking. The Sonic Adventure Series was awesome, Shadow? Awesome. And if someone wants to say it sucks, please don't say it only because Shad uses guns. They were a feature that made the game easier, rarely did you NEED a weapon to pass a stage in it (can actually only think of one level) and even then, as an offesive weapon, the gun was crap. (the weapon was a vacum used to pull platforms out from in walls) But no. Not one sole enemy which you could not defeat sans a gun. And Sonic Heroes? Although I conceed the console version sucked, I bought the PC Version (for three bucks). And guess what. I loved it. It was just plain awesome. I didn't get Sonic and the Secret Rings yet, so I can't coment on that. Now. Sonic 2006. I'm personally glad it sucked. Only out of spite, because it was only released on the 360 and PS3, and I got the Wii only. But yeah, that was a heavy blow to Sega. I really hope Sega's not doing as bad as you say so. Cuz I want more Sonic Games dang it! Sonic Adventure 3! Shadow the Hegehog 2! With guns! Return of E-102: Gamma! (Don't I wish...)

No it's not. I refuse to address that abomination as part of the Sonic series (heck, even Sega decided to say it never happened).

I also liked Shadow The Headgehog, its camera was never so terrible that I couldn't get from point A to point B, plus it fixed my biggest complaint with sonic games, you could never attack enemies without losing speed, in Shadow's game you never have to stop running in most stages, plus Shadow was not as fast as Sonic, so it was easier to control.

Though the game did have its flaws that I don't want to go into (this is about why Sega sucks now, not about Sonic), I can say that Sega has some semi-promising titles coming down the pipeline.

All this positive feedback for Sonic Rush...was it really THAT good.
I've been debating on whether I should get this game for a while, but with the way most StH games are going....well, you get the idea.

I totally agree, though I think it's a matter of what the majority desires, not the "kids". C'mon, now; we can't blame the younger generation for everything wrong these days;P.
As we all know, the general public views 2D gaming as a thing of the past, a relic of the ages. (Props to the few companies fighting strong to keep 2D gaming alive.)
So, for a game company trying to adapt to the constant changes in gaming entertainment, they often find themselves struggling to balance out the traditional "values" that have been the foundations of their company while trying to evolve to fight the tides of time.
If they cannot adapt with the times, they will vanish from the public eye and ultimately die as a company.
I suppose it's understandable, but their recent attempts have been dealing quite a blow to their reputation. Not to mention the idiots (mostly Next-Gen "noobs" that will get almost any game that pops out in the market) that keep supporting them.
In the case of Shadow the Hedgehog, he has manage to become something more than a "Sonic clone" (who DID NOT think about this when he first appeared in SA2?). Why they gave him guns is beyond me. Personally, I think it's a gimmick for the "kids" to eat up.
C'mon! The Shadow game came out around the time when DMC3 was still fresh in our minds and "ghetto-type" games were all the rage.

Sonic's evolution in video games has been quite an interesting one, but I'll have to save that story for another time.

Uh, for the record, I don't think the Sonic Adventure series were the first games that featured the Blue Blur in 3D (playable, at least).
I'm sure he made his 3D debut on the Saturn (Sonic 3D Blast doesn't count!). Besides Sonic Jam, I don't know if he was released in any other game, though. I recall several 3D demos of a game called "Sonic Xtreme", but I believe that project was cancelled. Can anyone confirm this?

The sad thing is, all the Sonic "kid" fans I know hate Shadow, its older Sonic fans who seem to like Shadow, also the guns are so fake looking I often forget they are guns <.<

That was just a mini demo of Sonic in 3D (in Sonic Jam), the game it would have been was scrapped.

Also the kids (like my 10 year old brother) who buy the Sonic games love the garbage such as "Sonic Riders" (ick) and "Sonic Heroes" (bleck).

If I could list off some problems with Sega, here they would be:

1. Cheesy-ass dialouge: It's always been a known fact that Sega has tried to have "attitude" over the years. Hell, it's what they used to try and stand out over Nintendo back when they were rivals. However, thanks to the fact that voice acting was not used in video games back in those days, most of it was confined to the text, comics and TV shows. However, come the 3-D games, there were so many bad pieces of dialouge that I seriously wanted to cry. More than once I've turned down the volume whenever viewing a cutscene...

Sega, get some new writers...seriously. AND DON'T USE 4KIDS FOR THE VOICES!

2. The same damn plot...over and over again: While the details and characters may have differed, the basic plot was the same: get the Chaos Emeralds, become super, kick the big bad guy's punk ass. Remember back when having all the Chaos Emerald was an accomplishment? Now it's required to beat the game, and even then, you only get to exploit their powers on the last of last levels.

3. Not being able to fix problems with games: More than one 3-D game, people have complained about the camera. You'd think that this issue would be fixed by Sonic Adventure 2, but nope, every 3-D game had the dreaded Sonic camera.

Also, Shadow had the potential to be something good and interesting. Instead, it came out as a bad combination of Team Chaotix's levels in Sonic Heroes and Tails/Eggman's levels from SA2. Combined with standard Sega problems as well...
I yell "OBJECTION!" in the court sometimes!

I still think Shadow gets a bad rap for the wrong reasons, sure some of the missions are lame, but you don't have to do any of them, you can just get to the goal for the neutral ending, and the camera is FAR more improved (not perfect but better) then that garbage that was in Sonic Heroes.

Sega's problems are mostly in the past at this point. Their biggest turning point from fading outright into oblivion was going 3rd Party, which ended most of their biggest issues at the time while opening new wounds that never healed for some, especially for the "purists" and whatnot.

BassForever wrote:

Except Sonic Riders was actually a good game. It had good controls, a good amount of playable characters, some really interesting/diverse courses and, most suprisingly, hard, competitive A.I. that wasn't cheap. or annoying. While it wasn't all that great a Sonic game, it was a good racer.

Sonic Heroes wasn't that bad either. It may not have been on par with Adventure 1 and/or 2, per se, but it wasn't outright terrible. Surely it outdoes ShTH and, to a much greater extent, Sonic '06.

It seems that Sonic fans are very controversial over where they want the series to go and what they like or don't like. Sonic Riders did okay but was booed by alot of people, Shadow made Greatest hits but critics panned it, Sonic Heroes also made greatest hits, critics loved it, fans hated it. The upcoming Sonic RPG is controversial.

It seems to be a love it or hate it with all of the new sonic games starting with Sonic Heroes and afterwards.

Also how expensive the consoles were and how many they put out so fast, the supply eventuly beat out the demand.

A select few of the "Greatest Hits" titles only got there because of the high sales (I believe any game making the "one million sold" mark get this title), not because of the reviews. How else do you think "Enter the Matrix" got in there?
Sonic fans, Sega fans....heck, fans in general, are very nitpicky about their hobby. Most of the time, anything falling away from the traditional formula will be met with opposition. Modern 3D Castlevania, as well as the use of "Saturday morning cartoon style" art for their DS games worked rather well, but met with mixed opinions to the fans.
While the Sonic RPG will have many of us trying to figure out how they plan on pulling this off, I think this is a critical make-or-break moment for the franchise.
Personally, I don't think they'll be able to pull this off under the current "Sonic Adventure" lineup, an interesting possibly for the cult favorite SatAM to take the reins...

As much as I would want to agree with you, it's kinda hard to sell the Dreamcast when your poster boy is dedicated to beating the hell out of you for not getting a Saturn.;). Great idea, though.

Restrict that to Sonic Heroes and beyond and I would agree with you. SA and SA2's dialogue didn't induce facepalms in my experience, anyway.

Man...luckily Bleach: The Blade of Fate is published by sega not MADE by sega . Being published by sega better not affect the sales of it......Sonic Adventure games were sweet. No doubt. I loved Sonic adventure 2 battle the most! Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog really did suck. I tried the demo of Sonic for the 360 and the camera really did suck....Sega has gotta fix their ways or -BOOM- they go suicide due to bankruptcy! XD
