The Eternal Night is the second game in the Legend of Spyro series and is out for the GBA, the DS, the PS2 and the Wii. The GBA version is the best of the four and definitely worth looking at if you are a fan of 2D-Action brawlers. The graphics are wonderful sprites with lush 2D backgrounds and the music definitely helps set the mood. But the real thing that sets this title apart is the combat. You can pull off insane combos on your enemies and just have fun beating the snot out of them. Spyro gains new abilities as you play through the game and new elemental breath attacks as well. Your 'experience points' are gained based on how well you combo attack your enemies and can be used to individually level up the breath attacks.
There are two modes available at start-up, easy and normal. I have been playing through on normal and it presents a challenge. Beating normal unlocks Hard, and beating Hard unlocks a secret mode. The game is difficult because it is hard to refill your HP bar when it is low. The best way is dying and starting the area over again, because moving to a new area does not refill your life.
The GBA game should retail for 20 bucks and if you buy it at GameStop after getting a Wendy's Kids Meal (with a Spyro toy :D), the bag will have a 5 dollar coupon on it so you can get the GBA version for 15! :D
The other games are 3-D platformers and along the lines of other recent Spyro titles, so not good. But the GBA game could be a hidden gem, and possibly hard to find so if you are interested I reccommend hurrying! :o
