I personally am sick and tired of names like "Naruto028" and stupid crap like that in MMO games. Why do there have to be hundreds, or even thousands of people with Naruto, DBZ names, etc.? And if they're taken, they add these bunches of numbers or they do stuff like "XxPrettyGrl827xX" just so they can be that name. Nobody gives a shit if you're 'pretty girl', we're playing a game here, and nobody will think more of you because of that name.

I'm not saying people should create these long-ass completely original out-of-the-blue names, but look at my names - I'm 'RafoieAdept' in an MMO, taking Rafoie from Phantasy Star Online (Best fire skill, my personal favorite), and using Adept as a way to say "I'm a fire master." Yes, he's a Fire Mage. I have a Bowman called "Kazebolt", or "Bolt of the Wind" in a mixed language. :P If I knew the term for that in Japanese I would have added the entire thing. I even created an original name for myself a long time ago called "Garu." No last name, because it normally changed a lot. And this was not taken from the name 'Garr' in Breath of Fire 3, I made the name before that game came out :P

What are all of your opinions on unoriginal names in MMOs?

They lack creativity, no-one will remember them, and they lack the impulse of standing out, meaning little-to-no people people will actually interact with them, making party quests that much harder for them.

My MMORPG name is usually Mr Quirky, or something similar.

Mine aren't original though at least they are the original names instead of taking a name and hacking it.

I don't know, I don't play MMORPGs. Not a fan of them. *looks at name* If they are anything like mine though.... *hides*

I've played about 3 MMOs, in all honesty, but every time I tried to come up with an original name. Likewise I refuse to add numbers to the end of a name, that's just cheap.
I'll admit to making Harry Plotter in City of Villains, though. It was worth it.

GENIUS. XD

Anyway, I really don't think names like that are bad. I just hate people who add "XxNAMEHERExX" or zZ/Zz and numbers after/before their name just so they have a certain name in there.

Hahaha, when I came to this thread I thought it'd be about names that are like Nel'him or randomly apostrophenated [? XD;; ] names. But then I thought about it for a bit and realized that those really aren't unoriginal. Maybe just to me. XD

Anywho, yeah, I hate it when people don't take the time to think of a good name instead of taking some name from an anime or movie or whatever and adding xX or putting numbers. D: That is lame indeedy.

Repeat names aside from a few random numbers and/or letters tacked on? Hate 'em.

I've yet to find anyone use my name anywhere besides me.

Now that I've said that, I'm sure some wiseass will do it just to spite me.

Same here. Neon Lemmy Koopa is my own name. Well I took Lemmy Koopa from Mario 3 and added Neon to it, but its unique.

I used to play runescape. My name was Samadin. Completely original. a play on my own name

I've played Runescape before as well, though I don't even remember my names anymore. (EDIT: I remember now - it was Syn Shuriken. I took Syn from the final boss' name in DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2, and added Shuriken to it. It's a tad unoriginal, but at least it looks original. :D)

And Fran, yours is still hilarious because when I see it it makes me imagine a Franny in Elise's clothing. XD

My name's just my online alias, 'Xero', added with a Wright at the end. The whole backstory thing didn't kick in until quite a while later.

Down at DGEmu forums, I actually snagged the display name "Phoenix Wright". It's still that, I'm pretty sure.

I love unoriginal names in MMOs and especially forums.

They're a warning sign : "This person is not worth your time."

I've noticed that my name is common... or at least versions of it.
I wonder why.

I first used it in Runescape because everything else was taken and then it stuck.
I think I was 12 when I did this, so I've used it for a long time.

It's annoying, it doesn't feel like "my" name... Maybe I should change.

Started using Escargot Pudding after seeing a certain episode of Inuyasha. This eventually evolved into Escargotage, which is pretty original, I guess.

Personally, any name that's not filled with nonsequential letters (i.e. fnai) or has xX/Zz/2743 before or after it, it's a perfectly original name as long as it's not blatantly taken from an overused thing, like Naruto.

So yours is pretty original, from what I see.

It's quite an effective way of weeding out the not-so-smart people, that's for sure.

Anyway, I usually don't care about someone's handle much. But repeat names do get irritating.

That's partially why I'm known as Millini.

Probably some of the most ridiculous names I have seen have a common formula, like if there is a character named Hursane or something (I just made that up :hotti: ) sometimes I see like "-o" or "-as" or a repeatable letter like "Hurrsane" (I think someone pointed that out earlier). I don't see numbers often anymore, thank god. Oh, and I have seen many instances (though they don't last too long obviously) when characters would yell in the game with names like "Hursanesucks" or has an obscenity at the end, most of the time spelled incorrectly to fool the name filter.

Pretty bad...

Actually, when I first joined, I thought about making a sprite of Franziska with a beret and smock like Laurice's for my avatar, but I couldn't pull it off. I guess I could always ask someone to make it for me, but that would mean no more Busty Iris and, well...

The last MMO I played was Runescape, years ago... I never paid much attention to names because I hated pretty much everyone who ever approached me in that game. ^_^; Oh, the constant marriage proposals.

Pretty much the same can be said for big roleplay sites.

Well basically I pretty much keep consistency with my names...so to say, use the same thing in everything I played, but change a word or part to differentiate (same for my passwords pretty much). Like...that game in which you tell someone something, and after hundreds of people, you check to find out if the wording change drastically when it gets back to you.

Abusing my computer with countless downloads of MMOs/RPGs to try (with only 2 with me still being regularly active in), I quit changing the usernames after the first three installs so that's where the whole idea came from.

"Telephone." ^_^ That's a cool way to do things. I've always been Tajiri Ami or some close variation wherever I go.

I hate really annoying sounding original fantasy names like Fa'Runalia or something similarly pretentious.

For some reason, people using numbers in their names just really ticks me off. It's okay if it's just one or two of them, but I saw a name on Naruto Arena today which ended in "000012"

When I was signing up for EVE Online, the friend who got me into it basically said "Pick a real name - magicman2002 and I pod you".

For those unfamiliar, a podkill is a huge setback since you have to go back to a clone that's generally several thousand skill points lesser than where you were.

I generally try to pick a roleplay name, even if I have no intention of roleplaying. Although for a while on Ragnarok Online I went around as XxNARUTOxSASUKExX, and that was kind of amusing.

WoW forums has a lot of threads about this...
-Anything with "dark" in it.
-Any LotR refrence.
-Anything with numbers.

These are the basic stuff. :o

only MMO I've ever played was City of Heroes. Got the game for christmas last year and so far have made a whole 2 characters.

Legarial
Tahmilia

I actually never really had any trouble with finding an unused name in that game so far. As long as you can think of something that isn't completly obvious (The Void for example I bet will have been taken, and you'll get laughed at if you go in as "Wulvurene") you should be in good shape.

I don't really play MMOs, except for that one time I played Tibia because my friend insisted. My name was Snowy Day, to match her and her boyfriend's (Sunny Day and Rainy Day).

But as far as the internet goes, I always use the username "quandtuniverse". Then when I tried making an AIM account, I found out it was already taken o_O Who would want that name aside from me?

My Dofus names have been things such as

He ends his name in 000012 because he's number 12! Anyway, Karma humor aside...

I don't like unoriginal names, especially using Cloud, Sephiroth, Altair, Naruto, Sasuke, Kakashi, or any variations of those.

This is why I stick with a few names that nobody uses (most have first and last names as well)

Ginkan Minaev (Ginkan from .hack//SIGN, Minaev being the last name of the main antagonist in Front Mission 3)

Iwato Tatsumaki (The name Iwato just popped into my head (Which I later reasearched into and refers to the entryway into a cave) and I used the name Tatsumaki (literally, "Tornado")to throw the English-speaking Narutards off because it sounds so much like their precious protagonist.)

Hakuro de Killer (Hakuro was to be the combined romaji of White and Black. I went to research later to find that Hakuro meant "Morning Dew", and I just stuck with it. Also, if you don't know where the suffix "de Killer" is from, you need to play JFA again.)

Pesmerga Galanodel (My first semi-original RP character. Pesmerga taken from the Suikoden character of the same name and Galanodel taken from the Dungeons and Dragons Player's Handbook list of Elvin last names, Galanodel being Moonlight, I believe.)

Humphrey (Taken from one of my favorite Suikoden characters, Humphrey Mintz.)

...and that's all of them that I can recall and yet, nobody at the game shop has ever had an opening for a tabletop RPG for me as they always fill up before i get there... T_T

Yeah, those names kind of bug me.

I usually try to go for original names, but I found that there's already a "haibaran" on Yahoo. XD

Haibara~n is a play on the "Nyoro~n" meme, but with a common Meekins typo(because the original Japanese name, Harabai, didn't sound as good).

But I have to admit, one of my earlier usernames was "xrokkuriix"(romaji of Rock Lee's Japanese name with Xs to either side). I feel like such a derpy weeaboo, hahaha.
