For fans of Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit, this game promises to contain the psychological thrillers, quick-thinking decisions, and engrossing storyline (without the rather silly (IMHO) supernatural parts). Very, very little info is out on the actual game story, as the writers don't want to spoil anything.

A special thing they're using is a better motion-capturing device, resulting in very realistic-looking face expressions. They put out an example of this motion-capturing with an actress who's trying to audition for a role by a monologue. (sorry; it's difficult to hear her towards the end).

At E3, or something, they presented an example of gameplay (note, it's not actually going to be in the game; it's just an example of what the gameplay would look like). The guy talking is speaking French, just warning you. But it looks very thrilling. (You may want to skip, like, the first five minutes if you can because it's just the dude talking, while you're looking at the character's face, lol).

I think the most interesting thing about it is that, if you're not engaged in "combat" per se, you can walk around the house normally. But if you are, then instead of walking to your destination, you have to choose whether to go to an area, or go to the right or left (watch the video; it'll make more sense). I guess this is a way to emphasize that you're stressed and have to think quickly. I think it's neat.

Discuss?
(if there is already a topic like this, I apologize :payne: )

This is the game that sold my choice to buy a PS3.

WHY MUST IT BE SO EXPENSIVE! D:

Ah, yes, forgot to say: this game will be exclusive to the PS3
Lol, I know, the PS3 is horribly expensive.
I think this was rather a strange marketing move. I mean, even SquareEnix made their new Final Fantasy games be for other platforms! :payne:

Speaking of PS3, there's something mentioned about how you can control the player's "thoughts"...? You have options and you choose one by pushing the controller in the right way. I'm unsure what exactly this is, but I saw it mentioned at one point... :yuusaku:

I can't wait for Heavy Rain, it just looks so unique! I love games where your choices actually affect the outcome, as opposed to games which claim they do but what they really mean is just A or B.

OMG Croik posted on one of my threads XP :edgy:

I completely agree! I've always loved Choose Your Own Adventure books, so these kinds of things just get me so excited. I hope I'll be able to play it once my bro's done with it... (though, knowing me, I'll probably watch my brother as he play and know the storyline(s).)

PS3 exclusivity is a good thing, because it means it will explore the console's full potential.

I own both the Xbox and PS3 and sadly the PS3 is hardly returning on it's investment, only game really on it I play is Valkyria Chronicles or however it is spelt soo more exclusives would be nice to take it outside of the 'paperweight' catagory someone mentioned prior.

Heavy Rain is high on my 'WANT WANT WANT, GIMMIE NOOOOOOOOOOW' list :ron-jazz: would be a nice change from all the games which have you constantly blowing stuffs up.

I loved Fahrenheit (apart from the completely ridiculous story toward the end, sorta ruined it) so I look forward to this. I got my PS3 for exclusives and well, not a lot coming up interests me, but this should fill the gap nicely.
Streets ahead.

I've been following this since the Casting Demo came out because of my extremely ferocious love of Fahrenheit and I'm hoping we'll get some gameplay and a fucking release date at E3. The Developer's Walkthrough was interesting but I want some Direct Feed plz. :U

I read an article on it in Game Informer (note to self, must renew subscription). It looks ridiculously cool, but from what I read it's a type of survival-horror almost. NOT my kind of game. I kinda want to play it, but the second something jumps out at me I'll end up cowering under the couch.

Sounds like something one of my friends might like though, I'll have to show it to him. Maybe it'll make him happy until BioShock 2 commes out.

Welllllll, maybe you could call it that. :yuusaku: If it's anything like Farenheit/Indigo Prophecy, I wouldn't say so. The main difference between what this game sounds like it's going to be and a survival horror is that, it's been said that you could kill off all playable characters and still "win" the game, in a sense.
I wouldn't say it's "survival horror"; more like "choose your own adventure". Basing on what F/IP was like, you're going to have to make decisions that aren't like "where to hide" or "shoot the bad guy" but more like "should I hide this incriminating evidence" or "should I mix alcohol with my medicine" (lol).

So, honestly, those parts in the game that seem horror-esque probably won't happen as often (especially since it's NOT going to be supernatural). And when they do, according to what's been said, you shouldn't worry about dying. Because, most likely, you'll continue on anyhow :edgy:

It might also have something to do with the fact that the specific part they were talking about involved the main character trying to get away from a homicidal taxidermist. Not my idea of a good time. I might pick it up.

And if you're Guybrush Threepwood, you can mix alcohol with medicine... and LIVE... TWICE. (Cookies to anyone who gets the reference...)

This is correct. That whole part isn't part of the released game; it was just an example
However, I believe the taxidermist dude is still going to be in the game; but not necessarily as that character. I'm unsure as to the verity of that, though.

Well, I should rephrase that. I mean, you probably won't get a "good ending" if you know what I mean, but you won't get a "game over" screen. The game will still end. And you probably just go to another character if one dies or something to that effect...
Does that make sense?

Yeah, it does. :larry2: I thought of that shortly after I posted, XD The game will be interesting to say the least.

Might be me not reading correctly but gamespot posted a preview of sorts about this game recently.

It is looking good and yeah, you can have your 'character die' but the story goes on, albiet some areas are harder without the information now dead person would have found out if they survived etc.

Yep, it explained just a part of the official story. Mostly about a character you can play, who's an FBI agent with experience in forensic psychology, who's researching this "origami killer" but also has a drug abuse problem (he's given a glove and Matrix-like glasses that allow him to find, pick up, and automatically trace any DNA, footprint, etc. evidence found, which is freakin' sweet). Explains the scene he has with some informant.
Interesting part is when this informant (inevitably) sticks a gun to the dude's head, and you have to choose what your actions and words are. Except they're circling the dude's head! And the more stressed he is (me guessing meaning sanity is lower), the faster the words spin! Also, since he's feeling a relapse from the drugs, at that time, his mind gets fuzzier as a result.

I'm sad, though, that apparently one run-through of the game is about 8-10 hours long. :sadshoe: I understand it's meant for replay value, but....
