Okay, I've always been a big fan of game developers that make games just for the people, not to make money. I try to keep up and play some good new freeware or flash games every once and a while.
Because believe it or not, there are good games you can play legally, and you don't have to pay.

There are plenty of sites for listings of good flash games, (Personally, I like to look through newgrounds.com or onemorelevel.com)and there are also some for freeware games, but there aren't as many.

This topic is for sharing and talking about cool games like this found on the internet.

I'll post a few I played recently and liked.

Cave story(Freeware, considered the best freeware game out there by many.)

Screamin beans(flash, not really a game but still.)

Desktop tower defense(flash, oh man, addicting. I hope you have an hour to waste.)

Balloon Duel

Customize your dueler, get the upper hand with some accessories (Wooden Sword, Angel Wings) and even relive the game once you get your duelist's rank high enough. Although one of the best features about this game is it's ability for you to import your own music to listen to while playing the game.

A very simple, but effective platformer. You are a ninja, and you have to get to the end of the level, before you die. To stop from dieing you must either finish the level, or collect gold. The game has a somewhat nice difficulty so beware.


Linion RPG

No, it's not an online game before you start thinking that. This game isn't as good as the others. The storyline is very weak, and there's no music in the game. However, this game is a must-play due to it's very cool battle system. (Plus you can fight everybody you encounter )

Wubly

In this game you play as Wubly, a character strikingly similar to Kirby. Xubly, an evil Ubly (Yes, everything in this game rhymes with Ubly) is stealing all the Ubly rings. You, as Wubly, must follow and stop Xubly, and save the world. Wubly is a 2-D High-speed scrolling platformer which you'll need good reflexes in order to conquer. It's full of minigames and different modes of play so completely beating this game will take a while.

You are a person who had a vision that the spaceship you're travelling on crashes into a planet, which it does. A very zelda-esque type game that's full of action, puzzles, and a good storyline. Although like Zelda, it's very open-ended and somewhat vague on what to do next. Not a dial-up friendly game. 22 megs when I downloaded it. But still definately worth it.

Here we go. My favorite Game Maker game, Dim. You are an artificially created being with the ability to change dimensions. However you are ordered to be destroyed when another scientist finishes his before yours finishes you. Not knowing what to do, he sets you free and allows you to escape. This is definately a unique game. Platformer with unique puzzles due to the dimension changing. Be warned however, this game is very, very, VERY HARD! If you thought Trauma Center was hard, this game is going to be hell. However, due to the fact that you'll often get further than before, even if by a little, will encourage you to finish that level (or throw your monitor out the window).

A ton of games-- some of them fairly old Java games, some newer and more advanced. I'm personally pretty fond of Mercenaries of Dosbar, a turn-taking tactics game. (If you register, you can save, which is a very good thing. XD;;) It's going on seven, eight years old, but it's held up pretty well.

Beneath a Steel Sky: A classic sci-fi themed adventure game from 1994. It was released as freeware around 2003. Needs SCUMM VM. You can download Beneath a Steel Sky and SCUMM VM here. The CD version contains voice-overs, so I'd recommend that one.
I Wanna Be The Guy: A hallmark back to the old days of 2D platforming greatness, with the main ingredient being what wasn't so great about 2D platformers: RIDICULOUS DIFFICULTY. It contains enemies and scenery from all sort of classic 2D games, and is made to drive you insane. This game was infamous for making "Let's Players" on Youtube go insane. "Ola, amigos! Now, I was just about to ask Lan to make this topic, when he told me it was here. I have two games.

First off, we have Fraxy, a space shooter-esque game. In it, not only can you take on bosses that they give you, but you can even download more, and create your own! In fact, I'm currently working on a few PW/CR-related ones!

Now to be cruel. The kid gloves are off... and instead, you get a cape.

Yep! The second game is I Wanna Be The Guy, a Platformer, and what has been deemed the hardest game ever!

The plot? You play "The Kid", who has set out to become the new "Guy", in order to avenge his grandfather, who was killed. Armed with only your cape, a small pellet-gun... thing... and a drive that is about a billion times tougher than your physical body (Show GIANT DEATH MONTAGE!), you set out on your epic quest for retribution, and reward.

The game is hard as hell, the bosses are difficult, and the frustration of it? Everlasting. If you are able to keep your cool after being killed by the same method 150 times, then you should (probably not, actually...) try this game out. You won't be disappointed...

It's a casual game review site that has an incredible archive of reviews of games and links to said games. I used to spend a LOT of time there. Be warned: if you are easily distracted and like playing such games this site WILL consume your soul. That's mostly why I don't go on there much any more: it's too easy to whittle away countless hours playing the games they have to offer.

My favorite games have always been, and probably always will be, the games made by On of http://www.eyezmaze.com/. Nothing can compare to the Grow series. And... O.o there's a new game out! *goes to play it*

I beat La-Mulana (including the Hell Temple) last week.

It's the best 2D platformer I've played yet, outclassing any platformer I've paid for. My one complaint though is that the puzzles are really hard to figure out and unless you examine every tablet you come across and figure out what each one means, you will more often not have to resort to outside help.

If you like 2D platformers and puzzle-solving, I highly recommend giving LM a shot. It's a bit hard to begin at first (hell, you need to buy a particular item before you can save), but once you get into it, to play LM is not to play a game--it's to go on an adventure. Expect to spend about 30 hours on your first run through.

Knighfall is bejewel meets an rpg where you control a knight with a lance surrounded by colored blocks and your objective is to get the key to open the gate to the next level. You can rotate the board 360 and the only way to kill enemies is to position yourself above them fall down on them taking the bad guy out with your lance and there is even a sequel to the first one.
