OK, so, for my birthday (August, for anyone who gives a flying crap :D) I may get a new console. Now, my question is, which console should I get? Now, I have no way of accessing online (No wireless connection >_<), and, I don't care about any other junk (music, videos, etc.) I want it, just for games. And my personal games of choice are mainly rpgs.

No flaming each other for opinions now, k? :keiko:

I can figure that out for myself, yes. (What games, I mean.)

But, you're kinda missing the point. >_<

I need personal opinions, before I buy it.

I bought a PS3 for Metal Gear solid, Little Big Planet, and the fact that the Orange Box was also on it....

I'm happy with my choice. but then again, those are the kinda games I like.

Go for the 360, PS3 has no games.

We bought the PS3 for the backwards compatibility (when that was still a feature), and the fact that it was a cheap BlueRay player. The 360 has a better library of games by far. It's been out longer and it is easier to program games for.

The best thing you can do is look at the games that are already out, and what is coming out, then determine which exclusive games you would rather have and pick a system from there.

Get 360. It has more RPGS. Sure not all of them are winners but it has a lot of them right now.

When Disgaea came out for the PS2, it was a breath of fresh air in strategy RPGs (if strategy REALLY can be used to describe those types of games). Thing is, maybe it's time they stop doing the same goddamn game over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Back on topic, buy whatever the hell you want, I don't know you and I probably don't want to know you.

If I were to buy either, I'd go for the PS3, simply because pretty much everything I'd want to play on the Xbox I can get for PC, and the PS3 has free internet at the least.

Barebones but free or lots of features for cash.

Honestly this is one of the only thing I like about this generation, it really forces the consumer to evaluate his priorities as far as console gaming goes, and find out what is truly best for them.

It's too bad 99% of us are complete fucktards and don't do so.

Well, having at least one of each of the three of the current generation consoles, I say go with PS3. The 360 does have a considerable advantage in its game library, but at the same time, it always feels like Microsoft wants more of my money. Let me give some examples in case you, one day, have online access available. I have to pay for Xbox Live, I have to pay way too much for Marketplace Content, I have to pay for everything. And playing PS3's online concurrently, I can assure you that Live isn't all that better. Plus, so many 360's are defective (including mine), and that's an issue you'll have to worry about regardless. Red ring of death! Overheating! Etc...
(That said, there are the matters of Halo, Gears, and several other 360 exclusives.)

With PS3, online would be free if you wanted to use that functionality, and there are now a considerable number of games (though not as many) that are really good: Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet, Killzone 2... Plus, the online is free, without seeming to be of any less quality. (Take that, Microsoft!) Of course, I got lucky, and managed to acquire an 80G backward-compatible (although by emulation) PS3 with a special MGS4 bundle. And yes, the PS3 is still more expensive, but keep in mind that by the time you buy all the 360 attachments (the wireless thing, XBox Live subscription, memory card/hard drives, etc.) it's actually costing you more, while PS3 has the advantage of built-in wireless, free online, and built-in hard drive on all versions. It only seems more expensive because it isn't trying to sell you all the parts you need separately like the Xbox and *cough*Wii*cough*. Plus, while it has fewer great exclusives, I found the ones it does have to be of much higher quality, as opposed to the fairly good games that Xbox has in large quantity. So yeah, I say get that PS3. (Like you said, online isn't a concern for you anyway, so Xbox's supposedly better online shouldn't be a factor for you.)

By the way, Xbox 360 has a bunch of great RPG's? Name 5. (If you do, I'll probably end up playing them if I haven't already.)

Damn... I had a feeling you'd do that. Of those, I've only even partly played The Last Remnant, and Eternal Sonata (for PS3 :uramidn: ). Well now I'll go out and buy those others. And by buy, I mean probably rent from Gamefly to reduce my expenditures while trying these games out.

Pros and cons list is always good :gant:

PS3:
+ Built-in hard drive (say goodbye to the crappy 3rd party memory cards)
+ Free Online
+ For Dmc fans, the only machine you can play Devil May Cry 4
+ Darth Vader in Soul Calibur 4

- The price is from Hell
- Fairly often crappy online
- The price is from Hell, really
- Games' price is from Hell

360:
+ The price isn't from Hell
+ Good Online
+ Halo...
+ More games

- Accessories you have to buy
- Not-free online
- Microsoft wants your money
- Games' price is still from Hell

Overall: IT REALLY DEPENDS ON YOU :megaphone:

I meeeaaan, that all the other DMC -games are for Ps2 (expect for Dante's Awakening the crappy Pc version) so for the some energetic people called as fans Ps3 is the only machine to play DMC -games (controller, grip, buttons) etc.

About SC4, if you're a gamer who doesn't usually harness the consoles' network capabilities, Vader comes with the pack.

About the RPGs - The Last Remnant is not a good buy. But I'll leave that up to you.

Otherwise, I agree with the RPG list for 360 above. It really is the best choice.

And honestly, since the person can't use online, I don't know WHY people are saying "GET PS3 IT HAS FREE INTERNET," because it doesn't matter, the person won't fucking go online. Read: NO WAY TO ACCESS IT.

So, when it all boils down to games, 360. PS3 literally has no good RPGs (except the ones that are on 360) and the 360 has exclusive RPGs.

-- In the end though, it's still your choice. >.>

P.S. Oh yeah, to the RRoD people above, I have heard many stories about overheated PS3s going back to Gamestop. Whether these are valid or because the people have abused them, I don't know.

And I've had my 360 for over a year, no RRoD, no signs of possible RRoD, now that the probability is around 2%, I don't see it happening.

PS3:
+ Built-in hard drive (say goodbye to the crappy 3rd party memory cards)
+ Free Online
+ For Dmc fans, the only machine you can play Devil May Cry 4
+ Darth Vader in Soul Calibur 4

- The price is from Hell
- Fairly often crappy online
- The price is from Hell, really
- Games' price is from Hell

360:
+ The price isn't from Hell
+ Good Online
+ Halo...
+ More games

- Accessories you have to buy
- Not-free online
- Microsoft wants your money
- Games' price is still from Hell

Overall: IT REALLY DEPENDS ON YOU :megaphone:

Objection, Your Honor, he used "The price is from Hell" for 3 of his 4 cons for PS3, one of which is shared with Xbox!

It is not forbidden to share the same features, even if they are negative. Objection overruled.

No but makes for a fucking shoddy list and an uninformative post.

Come people let's try to stay civil~

Like everyone has said, 360 has the larger selection of RPGs, several of which are exclusive. On that front the only one I can think of as exclusive to PS3 is Disgaea 3 but hate those games so I can't recommend that. With FFXIII on the 360 too there's not much of a choice.

Howevvver, if you're a Square fan, Versus XIII will be PS3 only (though it's not a full RPG). Not sure about KH3 yet...? If you go with PS3 remember that not all models are backwards compatable and even among those that are some are better about it than others.

By the way, you don't need wireless to connect online with a PS3 (unless that's a model number thing I'm not aware of, but my 60 gig is connected via ethernet, so as long as you have a router you should be fine).

In fact, any of the newer models are not backwards compatible at all. IIRC, only the 60 gig model (or the older 80 gig model) will come with backwards compatibility. So check that out more fully if that is really a problem for you.

You also do not need wireless to connect online with a 360, it is, in fact, recommended that you do not do so as the 360 does not come with wireless out of the box. You must buy the adapter (or find a way to do it without it) which runs you, new, around 70-75$ (Long live eBay, but still).

I have a PS3 and my brother has an XBOX 360, so I'll give you my input.

They are both fantastic consoles. PS3 is circa £300 in the UK, and an XBOX circa £180, but then you can add £40 for Live subscription and £60 for a wireless adaptor for the console. Takes it up to a similar price.

You need to look at the exclusives. Both consoles have the general multi platform this gen must haves like Bioshock, Street Fight IV, Soul Calibur IV, Resident Evil 5, Call of Duty 4/World at War, etc.

I bought a PS3 because my brother had an XBOX (so Halo was already in the house...) but even if he didn't have one, I'd probably have gone with the PS3 purely for Metal Gear Solid 4 which was every bit as good as the series deserved. On top of that, I'm enjoying Little Big Planet. Killzone 2, Uncharted etc. Expect with the PS3 that more exclusives will come out over time, remember it did come out a good 15 months or so after the XBOX 360.

On the XBOX front, you obviously have things like Halo, Gears of War, etc that can sway you depending on if you want them! Personally, I like Halo but prefer Call of Duty, so online on the PS3 is fine for me. Plus people have less headsets so there are less annoying children... :edgy:

RPGs... well it's a tough one. There are obvious choices for the XBOX like Star Ocean and Tales of Vesperia, but the PS3 has Valkyria Chronicles and there are cross platform releases like Eternal Sonata to consider. Factor in that FF Versus XIII is going to be PS3 exclusive, while FFXIII is coming out on both, and you have a pretty even playing field.

If it was me, I would buy the PS3 every time. But just sit and think about which exclusives you are more interested in and go from there!

Hope I helped!

2. Are most of your friends over the internet or Real Friends? Internet/Real If you answered Real, get a Wii, if you answered Internet, get a Xbox 360.

I have the PS3, Xbox360 and as well as the Wii ATM here. You really can't compare all of them as they are all catered to different audiences and have distinguishing features...

Playstation 3
Pros
+ Cheapest and upgradeable Blu-Ray player
+ Built in hard drive as standard
+ Good selection of games out now
+ Doesn't charge you for online play
+ Games are not region locked!

Cons
- Still expensive as compared to the Pro (Xbox360) and Wii
- Some exclusives are no longer exclusives (FFXIII is one)
- Still lacking blockbuster games
- Online network is basic but not ground breaking by no means
- Reliant on some updates

Xbox360
Pros
+ Has a wide range of configurations for the user (Arcade to Elite)
+ Best selection of games
+ Great media player and interacts with PCs easily
+ Best online network and capabilities
+ Price

Cons
- RROD, enough said.
- Some genres are heavily lacking (good RPGs are one)
- Still fscking region locked for both games and DVD
- No Blu-Ray, HD DVD ONLY which sucks a bit...
- HDD are only included on the higher models
- You need to pay for the great network

Wii
Pros
+ Simple and easy to pick up and play
+ Great for party starter
+ Good selection of games to play with
+ Cheapest of the 3
+ Total backwards compatibility with Gamecube and Virtual Console for NES, SNES and N64

Cons
- Limited lifespan
- Lack of great single player games
- You need to pay A LOT just to get everyone involved (I mean a lot since Wii Remotes and Nunchuks costs HEAPS)
- Network needs to pay in order to use the most of it
- Too kiddy like
