Did a quick search and didn't see a topic for the game, so I decided to make one.

In case you're not up to speed, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is the first 2-D Mario platformer on a home console in some 14-ish years. Contrary to popular belief, it is not a port/remake of New Super Mario Bros. for the DS, and features all new levels.

The game features 2-to-4-player co-op multiplayer, a first for the series, and the return of Bowser's children, the Koopalings, as the bosses of the game. New power-ups include the propeller suit, which allows players to make large jumps, the penguin suit, which grants the user great traction on icy surfaces as well as the ability to slide on their stomachs and shoot snowballs, and the ice flower, the ice version of the standard fire flower.

I'm Up to world 5 so far and it's been a fun ride throughout. The levels are great, the enemies are nostalgic and and the music is catchy. My only complaint at this point is that you can't take Yoshi outside of the few levels you find him in, but that's a minor setback in what is otherwise a very fun game.

I've played all through world 1 so far and I've had much enjoyment with the game. I'm hoping to get some friends over soon to see how the co-op works.

I'm really excited for this title, that and Galaxy 2, but I've been threatened within an inch of my life if I get it before Christmas... so um... I'll just be over here excessively salivating as you guys talk about what makes this game cool.

Yeah I am waiting until Christmas to get this and Spirit Tracks too. Wouldn't be able to play this one here at college anyway and I must resist Zelda's lure come early December.

I'll just be over here stewing in jealousy.

Well, played the co-op with my friend and my bro today. They are such big jerks as am I, but it was so amazing doing co-op. Yeah, the screen can be harsh at times, but I had too much fun to really care.

I played a few levels at Game Stop today after work. It seems like a fun game. I've always been a fan of the side scrolling action platformer, so I think this will be a must buy. I think I'll ask for it as a Christmas gift though because I really don't have time to play it with work and final exams that need to be written. The joys of education.

So, anyone end up getting this for Christmas?

I beat the game the whole way through, getting every star coin and all, and it was a blast the whole way through. The final boss fight is nothing short of epic, and quite a treat if you've not spoiled yourself of it.

I could get through the whole game if I wanted to, and probably should, but I only seem to play it when I got friends over if only because I love the challenge of trying to get through the levels with them over, even if it screws me over a lot. We have gotten through to World 8 though. Levels aren't really too tough I think, but they are quite a beast when playing multiplayer. Running through a level when doing that isn't exactly easy. Especially when they die, you get the lag that screws you up from that. Still, love it nonetheless.

I got this for Christmas! My brother really wanted us to play through the whole thing together so we gave it a shot. At first I was getting frustrated as it seemed we were causing more trouble for each other than being helpful, but by the time we got to world 4 or so we'd really gotten the hang of all the tricks that come from having two players. Once we'd got that down, we decided to commit to finishing it together. We're currently somewhere on world 5.

I got it, I'm too good for my brother so he hates co-op and is starting to claim it's only made for single player.

We got this for Christmas too, and personally, I love it in both single player and multiplayer modes. Seriously, there's nothing funnier than four people sitting on the sofa on Christmas Day screaming at each other for accidentally pushing each other off a cliff or into a goomba.

Being my usual suck-at-games self, the game is beating me a little. I made it to World 7 by myself, but me and my sister couldn't make it past World 2. Sigh.

WORLD 8 AAFSONGSTGOSIFNDSOTN

Brb hitting the Wii with a golf club.

Edit: 20+ lives, and 2 hours later and we've beaten it. (Actually it only took about an hour, we fooled around with other things after beating the main game).

That really was an amazing final boss. Now to collect all the star coins and whatnot!

Made it to World 5 so far. Keep in mind, I only got it on Christmas.
In my opinion: VERY FUCKING HARD.
I even beat Super Mario Bros 2 The Lost Levels; easily.

I guess I just find it harder. :lana:

There are no checkpoints, Wooster.

None.

And they throw every dirty trick from the rest of the game at you, as well as MORE that weren't even in the rest of the game.

My brother and I have managed to get through 3 of the 8 levels so far.

*shudders*

Next weekend though, we'll make it. I am determined.

I just got the last star coins of level 9-8... thankfully. Oy... that was... painful, but I managed it with remaining with 99 lives by the end of the game... and just for s***s and giggles, completed the last level, WITH Toad being carried... yes, it made the star coins irritating to get, but the 3-Up I was given by Toad, moved my life-count to 99.

A little tidbit for those who may not know - if you beat the main game without ever making the Super Guide block appear, the golden stars you get on your profile will be shiny. If you manage to beat the game without dying, even once, they will be platinum stars.

Wooster wrote:

World 9 is well worth getting all the other star coins in the game to unlock the levels within. They take everything you've learned and experienced from the rest of the game and cram it into an odd mix of strategy and insane level design.

Does the game really need checkpoints by then, though? I mean, you have the full save option open to you after beating Bowser, so it's not like you'll lose anything important by saving often...

Sorry what? I'm talking about the midway checkpoint in the level. So no matter how far you make it in the level, if you die, you have to redo the whole thing, rather than starting from the midway point if you made it that far.

Oh, I thought you meant the saving checkpoint from the previous worlds, where the game would only fully save whenever you'd beat a castle/airship/ghost house. Sorry about that.

Yes - Roy and Ludwig, definitely. I only watched other people beat Roy, but I played Ludwig myself. I don't really know how many times I fought his first iteration, but the castle getting there was so irritating (the one where the bob-ombs shoot at your rising platform), it felt like I fought him a million times :P

I can imagine this game would be really difficult for one person, but once you add another person, it gets so much easier. My brother, cousin, and I, in various combinations, breezed through most of this game. We're on World 8 now, which seems significantly harder than World 7, which was (according to my brother) much harder than 4-5-6 (I didn't play them, but brother/cousin said they were all about the same level: not too hard). The game has a good learning curve, though, because there are all these different moves to master and understand. The first few worlds all seem to be about the same difficulty because they get proportionally harder as the players get proportionally better. Worlds 7/8 seem to be about the right difficulty for 2 players. I'm interested to see world 9 :)

actually, thats ot true. I found the secret ending to the cannon that blasts you to world 8....
but it felt like cheating, seeing as I would have skipped world 7 entirely, so i'M TRYING TO DO THE PROPER ENDING.

And that part with the fire sumos i cannot get past, and none of my siblings will play it to help me, so i'm stuck until a friend/couson comes round. Any tips guys? :payne:

I got the game for Christmas and it's awesome, I'm actually suprised how crap I was when I started World 3 though XD I haven't played it much because I've been busy with other things, but I'm loving it so far. I think I just started World 4 when I last played it.
I STILL haven't gotten used to those platforms where you tilt your remote to tilt the platform though, I really do suck at running while my remotes tilting to one side for some reason XD;

If all else fails, run it. Just run through their attacks, taking a hit if necessary, and continue on. That's the beauty of 2D Mario games - if a standard enemy is giving you grief, it's very easy to run past them and move along without looking back.

EDIT: Wait, is that the one with the boat and the light you control by tilting? In that case, jumping up to them and killing them with the barrels is usually the best option. Otherwise, just stay directly below the Fire Bros. and jump around the fireballs they throw.

I got World 4's secret exit to World 7, and 3 to 6 as 5-1 was pretty hard for me.
Beat World 6 and got to World 7's tower with the Koopa Kid who's balls have dropped (can't remember his name), found the secret exit, which lead to him escaping to the Castle, and me getting to a hidden stage, and then to the World 7 castle. ...But I used the super secret shortcut to get to him, beat him, got to World 8.

And for some reason...
...I found World 8 incredibly easy compared to the others.
The final boss made me freak out. Of course it's Bowser. But still...
The ending left me pretty pissed off.

"Oh Mario, did I ever tell you about that secret world?"

However, later I completed World 5, and now trying to complete World 7 the normal way.

P.S. I freakin' love the World 8 level themes. And the castle theme.

^ Dude, Luigi is awesome. O_o

This could very likely be my favourite Wii game (aside from Okami, but that's just a PS2 port so it doesn't count). It has also beaten Yoshi's Island as my favourite Mario game.

I really wish some people would take off their nostalgia goggles.
