That's right. A DS, in (Literally) 3D graphics, as in coming out of the screen.
Um...Information.

Just heard about this. Apparently it has:
-3-D visuals WITHOUT 3-D GLASSES
-Analogue stick
-Rumble
-Expanded battery life
-Greater wireless range
-Smaller screen than the DSi XL
-Possible accelerometer.

Wow...

Hmm, Rumble and Extended battery life. How contradictory. Not that I'd argue were it to be so.

Now this is just ridiculous. Nintendo only released the original DSi about a year ago. Then they recently release the behemoth known as the DSi XL. Now... they announce yet another DS?! And one that makes the XL's existance pointless??

WHY, NINT£NDO. WHY. :edgeworth:

Still, sounds pretty awesome though. :garyuu:

Well, this sounds pretty, but considering my bulky original one is still in wonderful condition and my money is limited, I'm not going to be getting it anytime soon. Plus I think Nintendo is doing alright without five freaking versions of the DS. :/
Although I still want a Wii for those damn Trauma Center games... :C

Next: The SD Odnetnin! Now you can flip the DS' screens upside down for an absolutely un-changed game experience! Just 50 bucks more than a perfectly fine DS.

Seriously now, if this turns out to actually be the DS successor (that is, has a better graphics system and an actual gameplay improvement), then this might be interesting. But, like Patcher said, right now nobody knows what this is. Our best guess is "same old DS with no-glasses-3D support". If this turns out to have a better graphics chip, better memory and introduce some sort of innovation that doesn't involve 3D, then this will deserve the title of the DS2.

If I remember right, PSPs have analog sticks that are rather streamlined and could probably fit in that space where it folds. The buttons on the old DSes raised quite a bit and didn't rub the lid much, if at all :yuusaku:

or it could be a strap on

...I guess. I was thinking of something like the analog stick on the GC controller, but the PSP analog stick seems much more logical xD

Whatever they say, if it doesn't introduce anything new other than 3D and minor upgrades to the battery and Internet sytems, it's still a useless upgrade.
Now, if it does turn out to have PSP-like graphics (or better), more power and memory, then it will be a DS2. I think I had already posted that, but 3D seems to wet everyone's panties so much that they can't even read.

The DS has been around for almost 5 years now, and it's guaranteed to work towards year 6 and might make it to 7 by the time it's totally dead. By comparison, the GBA line lasted from 2001 until the DS launched in late 2004 and had a semi decent yet decaying life after that. The Gameboy color only lasted 3 years before getting topped by the GBA, and the original Gameboy had an insane 10 year life.

By portable standards the DS is old. Not record breaking, but still old. It's time for a real replacement. And until Nintendo declares the DS dead, no developer is going to seriously support the DSi's better ram, processors, and camera features.

I presume the analogue stick will be similar to the one on the PSP. You know, that flat one no one uses because it's in a really awkward position for the left thumb?

Now I'm worried about anything other than camera rotation being mapped to a potential left analog stick on this new portable Nintendo series.

It's quite funny how many different versions of DS have spawned. But I think it would be super cool if Nintendo developed a motion sensing device for DS that would be like this:
Image
(Yes I drew that -_-)

You could use it like the one AVGN used for NES. You could punch, play piano, etc.

I'll wait until I actually see the new handheld to pass judgement on it, but I'm liking what we know about the 3DS so far. At least it seems the new generation of Pokemon games will indeed usher in the new handheld, as each one has done before, so I guess there was a bit of forshadowing there? Or perhaps it was announced now so the 3Ds can gain momentum with the games and launch together? Either way is possible, I suppose.

Knowing Nintendo, they can easily come up with a workaround for a real analog stick on a handheld. Perhaps one where the stick clicks into the hole when the system is closed or something like that.

Still, I don't think they've made a handheld I haven't found comfortable as of yet, aside from the rather bulky original DS - after the DSLite, my hands just can't get used to that brick anymore.

I dunno, wouldn't that make trying to fit the hardware inside the unit even harder? 90 of the time there'd be this round shaped gap in the internals where the analogue stick should be, as it is currently sticking out of the DS...unless it was designed like an umbrella. However, that leads to wondering how big it would be and if it'd still be in a very uncomfortable position (like the PSP's analogue stick).

...I used that analogue stick once.

It's the same principal. you put it on your face and you get a 3D picture. the technology could be used for virtual reality however in the case of the virtual boy they wasted that opportunity.

According to the video game site CVS, it is a possibility that the Nintendo 3DS may be released in October of this year. Since the announced release date before was merely stating that the 3DS would be released prior to March 2011, it is a keen possibility.

Nintendo has dismissed the claims for now, but it still might just happen. Could Nintendo want to battle Microsoft's Project Natal?

I won't hold hopes yet, but it could happen!

Besides, maybe GS5 will be a Japanese launch title?

Even March 2011 is too soon for GS5 to come out in Japan, considering it hasn't even been confirmed yet. I don't see how it would take full advantage of the 3D-ness either.

As for the DS3D (or whatever it's called??) I'm reserving judgment until I've seen it in action.

There are mumblings around 200 euros(I dunno 215$ or more?)
HERE you can have a Xbox360 arcade for that mount of money

and about Zelda:First it was a GC title but then Wii came out and they Wiimported it so it is halve right!
and who the hell needs a 3d thingy for GS?

When did you ever see a non-casual game being a launch title?

"Launch" does not mean 'casual'. "Launch" means 'released on the same day as the console is'. xP

Even March 2011 is too soon for GS5 to come out in Japan, considering it hasn't even been confirmed yet. I don't see how it would take full advantage of the 3D-ness either.

How...does that make it too soon? It's not like companies confirm games straight away or anything. :adrian:

They could be waiting for the TGS and E3, like Nintendo might be.

The only way I can think of for a GS game could be 3D is the Crime Reconstruction bits from GS4. Unless Phoenix/Apollo's pointer finger would actually poke you in the eye, I doubt there could be another way. They'd still have to make make it compatible with the DS Lite and/or DSi, too, so as not to upset the fanbase. I.E. Us. :gant:
