Anyone here getting this? It looks like a really good game and man, Nintendo is REALLY hyping it up. I can't wait to get it tomorrow, and if anyone here is getting it we can play some matches online.
It's getting mostly good reviews so far, with the biggest complaints being the controls (similar to Metroid Prime Hunters).
So yeah.....we can discuss the game here and set up online matches with each other. :phoenix:

If anyone is wondering what the game is like:

My poor hands. Oh, Metroid Prime Hunters. You and your actually painful control scheme. :sadshoe:

Gonna get this though. Nintendo have really hyped it up, yeah. But, it's Kid Icarus' big return. Another classic franchise has been reborn.

Actually, the controls are changeable but to what degree, I'm not entirely sure yet. And about Metroid Prime Hunters....man that was painful at first but I eventually got used to it...took a long time though. Well...the game does come with that stand for a reason even if it does destroy the portability.
I'm really happy that the circle pad pro is usable for lefties, I always hated having to move Samus in MPH with the ABXY buttons....if only gamestop would get in more of those CPP's though, I'll have to go awhile without one.

I'm also loving the preorder bonus...the original Kid Icarus in 3D! Always wanted to play the original, now I can. :phoenix:

Picking it up today. Pretty exited. I'm left handed, so I wonder if my Circle Pad Pro will fit in the included stand. I hope so, but if it dosen't, it'll probably be fine.

It looks awesome in an action sense I'll need to pick it up sometime so I can spam >+B in Medusa's face. However although I played and beat Metroid Prime Hunters I never understood what the problem with the controls in it were. I thought the problems were more with the spammy bug-abuse hunters online and TRACE!!

Well I got the game today and I honestly did not like the default controls. I switched to moving with the circle pad and aiming with the face buttons and it's working out much better for me. The game itself is very fun though.
It really looks like Nintendo put a lot into this game and it shows. Even the packaging for the game and the inside of the box are impressive!

After looking at the stand it doesn't look like anything would prevent the CPP from fitting too...have you tried it out yet?

I hate that the game comes with trading cards because I have a terrible collecting addiction and I just found out the Club Nintendo exclusives are gone already and there's one you can only get by being one of the first 250 buyers at some store I've never heard of so now I'm in despair

The game itself seems good from what little I've had time to play, though. The MPH controls scared me when I heard about them but they don't seem as bad here, maybe because the game is broken up into short missions so I can give my wrists a break in between.

For your kind there's always extortionists on ebay.
Plus it's compatible with the Dual Stick Pro thingy which I imagine would take the pain right off with the other analogue stick.

I wasn't able to pick it up yesterday, but hopefully I'll be able to today. Looking at pictures and videos of the stand, I don't think the CPP will fit. It's thicker than you think.

Can you use two pads on this game with a Circle Pad Pro? I thought it was just so lefties could use a circle pad.

Also, does anyone know what the different colors for the laurels on completed stages mean? Mine are all green except the ones on Stage 2, which are gold.

Nope. It only recognizes 1 Circle Pad, so no dual pad action.
Anyway, I got the game yesterday. My god, the land controls are terrible. I didn't play much (first 2 chapters and some multiplayer). Can't make an opinion yet.

It doesn't really get "better" unless you count getting used to the controls as better. Dual pads really would've worked so much better but at least it's not too hard unless you crank the difficulty up. I guess there's options to play with just the buttons, but I don't know how well that works since I haven't messed with it yet.

I really can't believe those cards are going for so much. $5-$10 or more for singles and over $20 for one booster pack, no ty :yuusaku: It's even more ridiculous that people are bidding on them, especially the Pit and Palutena cards. Aren't those ones in every game?

Welcome to the world of collectible card games though $20 is a bit much for a booster in my experience unless it's a box. Though yes I did mean getting used to the controls.

Example: TWEWY boggled my mind when I first started but I got better and then it was fine.

The land controls aren't bad at all. Sure, it's weird at first but you get used to it.

Also, I'm enjoying this game very much. I'm at Ch. 9 right now. :jake:

This is actually my favorite game on the 3DS right now. Man, it's addicting.
We should play each other online soon, Light vs. Dark is incredibly fun.
I honestly feel like this game lived up to the hype it had, which doesn't usually happen. :edgy:

Must say, this is easily my favourite 3DS game so far, don't see what everyone was saying about the controls, I picked them up pretty quickly. Maybe that was all the Metroid Prime: Hunters though, pretty much the exact same control scheme. And the dialogue is brilliant, both in writing and voicework.

Just got the game since I saw it for sale at Best Buy for 25% off.

First reaction?

"Has anyone seen the plot? I think it must lying round here somewhere."

In typical Nintendo fashion, there's only enough plot to justify the scenario. And even then just barely. And yet, that's as much as weakness as it is a strength. How often have you his boring cut scenes only to we wondering how long until the level actually starts? They're so close to getting it right.

The plot may be missing in action, and there are notices placed on milk cartons for its location, but the dialog! My gosh! It's hysterical. So often I'm tempted to look at the bottom screen where all hilariousness it happening, only to be struck down by the enemies. The banter is better then Ace Attorney if I may be so brazen. And oh man the fourt wall has so many holes in it it's like an open airlock in space.

Gameplay, I loved Star Fox 64 so the airial combat is something that fits very well with me. I think I'd prefer it if aiming and flying were all done via the same control, but other then that not much to say. It's good.

Ground combat, full disclosure, I hate FPS. Ground is a third person shooter, for me, that's better, but not much. I'm also surprised that Pit cannot jump. Okay he 'can' jump but he has to use a consumable skill to do it. 0_o

And... Granted, I'm only as far as ground combat On level 3, but it feels like the boogies have too much HP and the bosses not enough. Like I'm just starting to feel worried about my HP and the boss spontaneously combusts. I was in the middle of learning their attack pattern and they die on me? What gives?!

HP I'm also having a hard time figuring out for Pit. My bat frequently runs empty, and yet Pit's still moving.

Issues with controls I'm deliberately ignoring since I'm a lefty without a circle pad.

I'm still working my way through the game, but I feel this might've played better as a Wii title. Still, quite decent for what it is.

Also, don't worry, the plot shows up pretty soon, and goes from your standard "go save the world!" to balls-to-the-wal insanity, Bayonetta-level insanity. And it is GLORIOUS.

That's Crisis Mode. Pit can hang in there even after his life is gone through sheer willpower. Just don't get hit again in Crisis Mode.

Beat the game a couple days ago, and while it was a great ride, I'm a little less enthusiastic about working on the achievements. Especially the ridiculous "finish X stage in Y minutes" ones, or better yet, the "finish X stage without taking damage" ones.

I'm not even going to lie; this game is the best 3DS title out now, even beating out Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7. There is so much packed into that 2 GB card. I think I'm 2/3 into the game, but doing challenges in the meantime since I don't want this game to end.

Oh yeah, the AR cards have a few limited uses but are still cool to have. I got Palutena (rare), Drill Arm, and Great Reaper from Club Nintendo along with the ones I got with the game aside from Pit and Palutena (normal): Magnus, Three-Headed Hewdraw, Ore Club, and Mik. They smell nice, like the box...

Just beat the game (and Kid Icarus: 3D Classics version too).

I'm depressed this game is over for me, it NEEDS a sequel. It makes me almost sad that Masahiro Sakurai is moving on to create Super Smash Bros on WiiU/3DS, just almost...

Oh well, better start moving onto the treasure hunts.

Just beat Medusa. As you can gather, I haven't been very proactive in playing this game.

My gosh. The Dialog. It rocks. It totally rocks. It totally totally does. I'd almost be willing to buy a sequel based on the banter alone. Almost.

The game feels like it should've been a console title rather then a 3DS one. Or at least, it should've had proper dual pad support. Personally, I think it should've been a Wii title. (though, like with DKC Returns, the Wii's life may have been too far gone to make a significant splash on that system.) On the other hand, I could see walking around with the nunchuck and aiming with the Wiimote. I've recently found a more or less comfortable method of holding the game. Left hand on circle pad, right thumb however, I've equiped with the original DS's thumb strap. Works a whole lot better for me then using the stylus. Also means I can hold the system with both hands so my wrists don't get so tired without using the silly stand.

Gameplay? It's gotten a bit monotonous. Fly, Land, Boss. Fly, Land, Boss. Why not a few levels that are all fly or all ground? Or even Land Fly Boss? Change the order up!

Right now, I'm mostly playing on difficulty level 0.0; I just want to hear all the cool dialog from the amazing cast. And Having harder/more interesting flight and bosses is secondary to my dislike of ground combat.

Damn, I suck at this game. So far, I've only beaten four chapters at intensity level 5.0. And then I attempted the seventh chapter at level 2.0 and promptly got my ass handed to me.

Yeah.

Since then I've just been practicing and working on the lower chapters at higher levels. Last night, I attempted chapter 2 on level 6.0 and was doing surprisingly well. But I was too tired to finish out the chapter so I let the 3DS sleep.

Then I stuffed it into my purse today (yeah, I do the Streetpass stuff, hush :meekins: ) and when I came home to resume the game, it froze in sleep mode so I had to shut it down and start it back up. Oddly enough, the step counter was listed at 666. Coincidence? :beef:

Okay. I just beat Kid Icarus: Uprising.

Wow.

Wow. Wow wow. It's like SORA was reading my complaints and retroactively fixed them according to my status in the story. The story goes from very typical Nintendo, to standard plot twist, and then they threw in yet a THIRD plot line. That's like. 3 games worth of plot in a single game. Dialog remains a very strong point. I've somewhat gotten the hand of ground combat, it's still not my favorite, but if this was played with a GCN or PS controller, it'd totally rock.

I'd say I enjoyed it a lot more then the last few Kingdom Hearts games even. I don't know that I'd buy a sequel on the 3DS, but I'd be 'very' strongly tempted.

I think my favorite moment was when Pit was battling the giant fire dog boss (forgot the name of which) and starts out taunting the boss saying something to the effect of goes

Pit wrote:
Old Pit's gonna teach you some more new tricks. And if you're good, I'll take you for a walk, and give you a bath, and a treat. We're gonna rack up some serious Nintendog's Trainer's Points.

And mind. The further into that quote he gets the more enthusiastic he gets and kinda forgets that he's in a life and death struggle and ends with a tone of the most eager pet owner ever. It was so corny. For the rest of the day, I was left pondering if Nintendo would allow, if a Kid Icarus File was detected, to unlock a demon fire dog in the next Nintendogs. It is either the worst or best idea ever.

If I could have but one wish, it'd be air combat was like Star Fox, in that flying and shooting is all done via the same control, and not split. And the items… I often forgot that I had them. Not sure the touch screen is the best way to access them. You generally only see 2 at a time (out of maybe 8 or so?), but your focus is on the other screen. And I did want to see all the corny pictures on the bottom screen, but again, too much action on the top. Sort of the same problem Elite Beat Agents had.

But yeah, $40 well spent. It's a little rough, but this is EXCELLENT for a first in a franchise. (Even if it is 'technically' considered a reboot)

Take that as what you will. I seem to recal him saying similar about Brawl.

On the other hand. Uprising is quite self contained. I don't have any questions that would warrant a squel that isn't Medusa is revived and attacks.

He said something similar about Super Smash Bros twice (about Brawl, and the next one).
But the difference is, we already knew that no matter what, Nintendo would have made a new Smash Bros game, even without Sakurai.

Whereas about Kid Icarus Uprising, it's pretty likely there won't be a sequel (as in, a game with similar gameplay), if Sakurai said so. That doesn't mean there won't be another Kid Icarus game (he says so himself in the article), but that it won't be a sequel to Uprising with similar gameplay, and made by him.

Personally, I wouldn't mind a KIU sequel, but I guess Sakurai don't want to be stuck in a 'make sequel to that game, then a sequel to that other game, then a sequel to that first game, then a sequel to a third game' kind of vicious circle.
He don't want a repeat of the time when all he made was Kirby games (which led him to leave to make his own studio).

You could make the comparison with the Metroid franchise. Retro studios said they were done with the Prime series, and indeed, doesn't look like they're going to make one any time soon, if at all.
It didn't stop Nintendo to make another, non-FPS Metroid with Team Ninja.

Finally got into this game after having it sit on the sidelines for a bit for other games. This has got to be one of, if not, the best title for the 3DS. I am so enamored with the Saturday Morning Cartoon Style banter and the voice acting is fantastic from all I've seen so far. Pit's over enthused persona is hilarious.
On April 3, 2016, Court Records Forums experienced a miracle upon that day.

I can't believe it's been a year since this game came out. It feels like only yesterday. :larry:

I hope there will be a sequel.

As much I and everyone else would love to see a sequel, I'm not sure it'll be happening in the near future, especially with Smash Bros. 4 (heck yes!) development underway and Sakurai already saying it won't happen, it doesn't seem likely.

Negativity aside, Kid Icarus Uprising (before Fire Emblem Awakening, of course) was probably my favorite game on the 3DS.

The controls, strange as they might've been, actually worked for the kind of game it was. I loved the Saturday Morning-ish dialogue, especially when it made jokes about other game series (Komaytos = Metroids; one level which looked like Donkey Kong).

Spoiler:
Also Hades was hilarious! Did anyone hear his end credits speech by the way? Hopefully he's wrong and we won't have to wait another 25 years for a sequel.
