GoDot-FanGirl: I highly suggest you stop. It's like arguing to a brick.

Anyway, all this talk of "hardcore gaming" in general is retarded. No matter what, someone is gonna get called out for "not being hardcore enough". You'll have the kids talking about how Twilight Princess is so hard, then you'll get the dickwads that say the old Nintendo games rape everything that's out today, then you'll get the old farts who'll talk about their shitty 2600s, etc.

I've been active in competitive gaming since like 2002, and lemme say that I've seen some of the biggest bunch of douchebags and dickwagglers in the East Coast. I've seen skinny little kids and fat bastards talk like they won the World Cup when all they did was get $30 for first place at a DDR tourn or something. Ever heard of Billy Mitchell? He's the guy who has the world record for highest score in Donkey Kong. He's also a massive douchebag who sells hot sauce.

Guys who are hardcore into competitive gaming may be glamourized within the communities for beasting in tournaments, but in a lot of cases, they're either 14 years old or adults whose lives are in shambles. There are people who hold graveyard shifts and barely pay rent, yet all they do is play video games. One of the most recognizable DDR freestylers in the US from six years ago was actually just a 30 year old retired DJ who was still living with his mom and loved anime.

Now girls, you gotta ask yourselves....do you REALLY want to be this hardcore?

Oh, and Daemonforce, PLEASE do NOT dissect this post. I beg of you.

Fizzled indeed. I say those various reasons are several aspects of YOU and YOU are the only reason.

Judging from you being in competitive gaming for 6 years and are currently unable to pay your bills or rent, I'd say there's a connection here.

Hate to break it to you, but the "gaijin mystique" is a gimmick. In reality, they won't care for you all that much.

In reality, the gimmick applies everywhere. I'm not focused on Japan so get rid of it for a second. Anyone that is away of home has an instant chance at appearing more attractive. Now back to Japan for a bit. :yuusaku:

I realize that I probably won't focus much attention. I'm not even a half. There are still a lot of crazy people in this world and I seem to have the worse draw of luck when I happen to meet said people. I attract them like flies no matter where I am. So yeah. Staying the hell away from that. :shy:

I suppose. Not like really, really hardcore but you know. I grew up with a SNES, N64, Sega Saturn, Game Boy, GameCubes, xBox, xBox crystle or whatever ( The clear looking one :P) xBox 360, PS1, PS2, Wii and more. They're all awsome though. But the Sega Saturn is now dead >:(. They were fun though. :phoenix:

I personally dont really like Zelda, it was fun at first, but it got boring over time. I like games with alot of depth and ones that are really challenging.

Ahaha, I remember burning away my money just because I wanted my friends to finish House of the Dead 4. Man, at the last boss, we had to reload my arcade card 2 times just so we could finish him off. I think I reloaded my card more than 5 times in the duration of that game. We did the same for House of the Dead 2, actually. The zombie shooter games tend to finish off my money so quickly. I remember seeing this... 10 year old kid playing Time Crisis 3, holding the gun with one hand, killing everything in one hit. It was so cute and at the same time so admirable ; u ;

I don't get casual gamer and hardcore gamer stuff...
someone tell me what I am???
(I know I am a girl gamer :P)
Games I like are final fantasy, resident evil, brawl, mario kart wii, PW, mario, halo3, motorstorm, COD, harvest moon, animal crossing and cooking mama, no more heroes, zelda and house fo dead. So does that make me a casual girl gamer or a hardore girl gamer??? (note when I say COD etc. I mean like COD5 or resident evil 4 etc.)
Also why does there have to be a difference between boy and girl gamers??? We're both gamers except some are boys others are girls. I don't get it??? :payne:

I'm a girl gamer myself and consider myself somewhere inbetween the whole "casual" and "hard-core" concept. Honestly, you don't need to be one or the other.

I'm more into Text-based (PW/Prof. Layton), Medical (TC), and Rhythm (EBA/DDR/OTO/GH, etc.) than anything else.

I'm not 'hardcore', but I enjoy playing video games, and I am female, yes. My favorite video game series -- besides Phoenix Wright -- is Halo. Actually, it's tied with Destroy All Humans. Games that have to do with murder are very fun. xD

Unfortunately, in a phase of ignorance, I purchased Nintendogs...

Well first off, I said "a lot of", not all. Some are able to balance games and their life out well enough like you I guess.

Second, an hour a day is nothing compared to the amount of playtime "hardcore" gamers put into their everyday lives.

Not trying to put you down at all, just saying there's "playing an hour a day" and "playing for like 6-12 hours everyday".

scientifically speaking, there is a research held that games such as trauma center, big brain academy and phoenix wright stimulates your brain and makes you smarter! to think of it, now because of phoenix wright it makes me think and perceive stuffs deeper. and it adds my english vocab.

anyways, i'm a tomboy girl and i'm a gamer. sometimes i'm a hardcore gamer but i still have social life and i have a life outside gaming. to me, as long as you play games and you're not losing your social life it's ok. what's wrong with girls playing games anyways? i think boys who freaked out at girls playing videogames is just jerks who want barbie-doll like bimbo girls who is too stupid and all they can think is just shopping, dress-up and popularity.

Honestly, I can't stand the sexism in the media when it comes to gamers. I know a lot of female gamers. Hell, most of the female gamers I know are pretty good at Fighting Games (for the <3 xD)
Anyways. The notion that girl gamers are casual gamers is a bunch of crap. SNK's fighting games are NOT casual. >.>

Problem is, most people act surprised when I say I'm a gamer. No one expected I'd beat everyone in my Biology class at Guitar Hero II (having a cool Bio teacher= Guitar Hero parties), so... yeah, sexism sucks. Luckily, my close family members don't buy into sexism and actually get me things that I find more enjoyable... though if any of my aunts from out-of-the-country send me a gift, you can bet it's gonna be Nintendogs <_< not that I have anything against the game...

lol... I always welcome a gamer, regardless of gender. Although some of the chicks who always welcomed my advice were always at the fighting game machines. Of course, I think they kinda wanted to smack me for challenging them in the first place. But some of them told me to beat some asshole because he was being arrogant or something. Beating a newbie or whatever. (I tend to assume that anyone playing the game in question has a basic knowledge of mechanics. I offer lessons on how to understand it via a sketchbook... so they can understand what the hell we fighting gamers say. goes for guys too. newbies tend to ask me questions I never like to answer by talking because it's damn near unexplainable.)
Another note: Female gamers that I happen to meet aren't just fighting game/RPG fans or whatever, they normally expand to whatever the Arcade has. I meet the occasional lady racer here and there. Same thing applies when someone's on a high-and-mighty-horse attitude about newbies racing. Like during Anime Expo and at the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 3 Machine: I just tell them to hit the red button to disable opponents from interfering.... After I make the idiot who challenged them for a free kill eat my dust and like it.

There are quite a few crappy games aimed for just guys too. The Guy Game and BMX XXX, just to name a couple. Games targeted for specific genders are almost always bad.

According to a study done by Nintendo (Mentioned at the previous E3... You know, the one where Nintendo did NOTHING at?), 50% of DS owners are Female.

... Incidentally, Below is one of the many games announced as what will be made to appeal to female gamers.

Spoiler: Fact: THIS GAME WAS RELEASED LAST YEAR!

Half-tempted to start a gay gamers thread now.

Because it matters about just as much as gender when it comes to gaming. Both are heavily stereotyped, both nobody will give a shit about unless you mention it every fucking two sentences.
