I'm not paying $300/£250 for a Nintendo console.
$300 is the same amount as a PS3 nowadays.

It'll most probably cost $250/£200 out of Japan.
And you just can't compare a PS3 with a 3DS.

$250 is more than a DSi XL, DSi, and the Wii even though it's 4 years old.
I'm sorry, but Nintendo, you aren't Apple, you can't beg for obscene amounts of money with brainwashing advertisements.

Considering it's more powerful than all of those (if you consider the no-glasses 3D), I think it's worth it. And that "even though it's 4 years old" means nothing; in fact, since its launch, the Wii has undergone a price cut, further proving my point.

Whatever, it'll still sell millions. And you'll probably buy one too, eventually.

I saw the presentation on E3 online live. Definitely buying one. Mostly because I am hoping for that shown Ocarina Of Time Demo to actually be turned into a full game and come out.

And because of Kid Icarus. That game looked awesome.

And because I own every other Nintendo Console since the GBC.

Oh, and because I still believe in the existence of GS5. Kind of like in the existence of God. Except less religiously. :keiko:

Spoiler: In a box so if you don't want to heckle me, tis fine.
I know, but £250 is too much for a DS successor. And I know it'll sell millions, there is no denying, but even like a rich motherfucker like me, I just can't accept it's target price. Look's like I'm selling my precious DSi to get it.

Off-rant time!
When you get your 3DS, what are you going to do first? For me, I'll turn the 3D slider to the bottom (no 3D), and ensure it stays there.

What you have to remember about the price is that this is a brand-new system, so it's not fair to compare it to the PS3, which IIRC was $599 when it came out and is now half that price. Also remember that this is a really advanced system, so it only makes sense that it's going to cost more than a DS.

We've known that Ocarina of Time 3D was a full game since a few days after E3. Releasing spring 2011. Jeez, people... keep with the times...
Anyway, I'm getting a 3DS for:
-Paper Mario
-Kid Icarus
-MGS3
-Ocarina of Time
-Star Fox
-Layton
-Mario Kart
-3DS Virtual Console (YES IT EXISTS, HAS GB AND GBC GAMES)
-3D Classic Titles (YES THEY EXIST TOO)

HYPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Say, that reminds me of a puzzle! Have you ever heard this one, Luke?

The 3DS' running better-looking ports of Nintendo 64 games.

But I actually got over both of these later on. The 2011 date means more and better launch titles and stocking; and the handheld-only Virtual Console makes sense, since NES/SNES/N64/other console games could overshadow the Wii's VC.

Still, you can't say the price wasn't disappointing.

Also, Dylia, stop trolling for the sake of it every time you get the chance. It's getting annoying.

I could comment on that, but I don't want to derail the thread. If you think it's worth it, we can continue over PM.

On-topic: It's amazing how much third-party support the 3DS is getting. Layton, Metal Gear Solid, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, DJ Hero, Kingdom Hearts, Samurai Warriors, Dead or Alive, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, now apparently Ace Combat, the still-unannounced Assassin's Creed, Mega Man Legends 3... and some of them really close to launch, apparently. And I'm not even mentioning the outstanding first-party software.

Though I will most likely be purchasing the 3DS, I would also like to voice my opinion that continuing the Phoenix Wright series on the system would rip out the very heart of the series!

Part of what's made the series so great has been the unique art style. The mix of 2D Cartoon-like, yet subtly realist art works perfectly with the funny yet serious dialogue.

In any case, at least GK2 will be on the original DS! :redd:

It does seem nice, but it makes it harder to play while it's charging, which I'm used to doing.

@Elegant Brute:
I also think changing the GS series' art style would most probably betray its essence, but think about this: just because it happened to Layton, it doesn't mean it needs to happen to Ace Attorney. There could be new AA titles for the 3DS that don't always use 3D-compatible graphics. 3D could be heavily used during specific Investigations and Evidence examining, without it affecting sprites or backgrounds.

Are you seriously implying that all 3DS games need to use the 3D feature? So all 2D games released for DS/GBA/any other system can't possibly have a 3DS follow-up, port or remake without having to drastically change their art style to take advantage of the handheld's glasses-free stereoscopy?

No reason to be worked up...
But it is like you'd make 95% of all Xbox 360 games 2D scroller like games, and like a few really need that 3D feature

I'm not worked up, I'm just trying to make you realize the misconception you were implying.
And that's absolutely not correct. First, it's no comparison: we're talking about the Ace Attorney series, not 95% of the series that could get 3DS games. And second, there can be as many 2D games as 3D games in any system, and that won't mean their neither good or bad. Graphics don't make a game, after all.

It's definitely not the same: the touch screen is an input method, while 3D is an output method, and is completely optional to the player, thanks to the 3D slider. Besides, there are some great DS games that barely use the touch screen. The Ace Attorney series, for example, only needs the touch screen during 1-5 and AJ. PW1-1 to 1-4, JFA, TaT and AAI are perfectly playable without using it.

And CP... please read through my (and your) posts before posting again.
What I was trying to say is that 3DS developers who are developing a sequel/remake/port of a 2D game don't need to add 3D just because they can. And that this applies to "all 2D games released for other systems" that could be ported to/remade for/had a sequel on 3DS. If you want to use percentages, I meant "100% of 2D games".
What YOU said, on the other hand, was an example concerning "95% of all Xbox 360 games". That means 95% of a system's entire catalogue.
"2D games" doesn't compare to "Xbox 360 games". 2D is a form of visual presentation, while the 360 is a video game system. Do you get what I'm trying to say now?

The 3DS is much more than 3D: it's got better processing, better RAM, better graphical power (even with the 3D off). It's a great feature, specially since it's glasses-free, but it's not a game quality-defining factor in any way.

'sigh'
all I wanted to say is that I don't see a reason for GS to get any extra 3D whatsoever or higher graphics, we love and play GS at it is now, for a long time so far.
IN MY VIEW it is all to make money. I mean, there is no real reason as to why GS would essentially benefit from those 3D features. GS lives from the old and returning things and patterns (i.e. the female side-kick-chick).

I'm really, really excited about the Nintendo 3DS. One of my principles is that there is no such thing as a good or bad console. It's the software that matters. And the Nintendo 3DS has a great line-up! I'm especially interested in games such as Animal Crossing, Contra, Dead Or Alive: Dimensions, Mario Kart 3DS, Mega Man Legends 3, Ninja Gaiden, Nintendogs + Cats, Project Love Plus, Resident Evil: Revelations, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, Shin Megami Tensei, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor, The Sims 3 and Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition.

I believe an Ace Attorney game would have to make use of the 3D effect. It'd still be a good game either way, but sales-wise... The series isn't exactly massively popular, and I imagine there would be many people who would not buy any game that does not make use of the 3D effect.

At first, I really didn't want a 3DS since all it seemed to have added was the 3D feature, but when I heard a Professor Layton game was coming out for it, I just HAD to get it. And now that I got educated on all the other amazing features on the 3DS [analog control, extremely high resolution compared to other DSs, etc.] I actually want to get it instead of just feeling like I have to.

Now.... I've heard some rumors about SMT making Persona 3 3DS [as confusing as that is]. Is that true? And is there any proof? Because I REALLY want it to be true. *has FES, but doesn't really want to buy a PSP just to play as a female*

Inevitably, I shall get most if not all Pokemon games that are released on it.

The price is close to what I was expecting so it doesn't bother me at all, nor does the release date. I can say for certain that I am getting one the very day it is released.

The DS is not on its last legs, not until Professor Layton and the Specter's Flute comes out anyway.

But yeah, I am excited for details on the US release so people can finally shut up about the not so $300 dollar pricepoint.

Yes. Gyakuten Saiban/Ace Attorney has always been and will always be a Visual Novel Series. And visual Novel is, regardless of Console Capacity, barely ever rendered in 3D models. So, why should they change it? It'd be stupid and out of place.

I think they'll rather use it for puzzles. Like for pointing out that Witness X was standing in the wrong angle to see Suspect Y commit murder Z. Or something.

The DS is not on its last legs, not until Professor Layton and the Specter's Flute comes out anyway.

I'm pretty sure GK2 will hit the states much later than Specter's Flute. We're talking about a game that's just been announced for Japan, and one that's been out there for a year now. It's only a matter of time before Specter's Flute hits the non-Japanese markets (most probably Fall 2011), and GK2 will be out in Japan by Spring of 2011, meaning we could see it no earlier than Winter 2011.

My bet? Specter's Flute may come out for the regular DS, but AAI2 (that is, the localization of GK2) will follow a special path, once followed by the first Ace Attorney: re-released in Japan for 3DS, with new, special features that use 3D, and only hitting NA/Europe for the 3DS, early 2012. If not, it could hurt sales a huge lot, since Dylia's right, there: the DS hasn't got much life left. Think about it: what's it got? Ni no Kuni, GK2, and some crappy first-party games from Nintendo (like Pokémon Typing), and I'm seriously doubting Ni no Kuni will stay on DS.

So yeah, the DS has slowly started to die out, clearing the way for the extremely promising 3DS. And it makes absolute sense, since the 3DS is a whole new generation of Nintendo handhelds. This transition that's happening right now is just like the jump from GBA to DS, in a way.
