It would be nice if they gave us a name. It might give us some clues as to what the plot is going to be like. Are they going to continue with the plot of VLR, or will it be new with parts from the other games mixed in?

And I hope they won't make the characters too fanservicey.

Spoiler:
It really spoiled Clover's character for me, and it didn't suit Alice's character, in my opinion. She seemed more serious...

Spoiler: Everything VLR
I'm almost certain that the third game will take place during the failed Mars experiment. The primary goal of VLR (as far as we know) is to train Sigma to jump through time (via consciousness, not physically like BTTF) while retaining memories so he can stop the radical-6 disaster. The real question is, how is it going to play out? I wouldn't be surprised if the protagonist was not Sigma in ZE3, for example.

Spoiler:
It's more likely that it will be a different protagonist. Sigma will have a part in the game, I sure of, but the game will be more mysterious if we're playing as a different character.
I suppose it all comes down to the plot.

I think we could be playing as Kyle or ? - but the thing is, I think Junpei will the true protagonist, I think the ultimate goal is going to be to reset the timeline so Junpei and June.. er, Akane can have a happy life together. But I may be wrong :D

I'm actually kind of concerned about how they'll do game 3, since it seems that it will be the failed Mars mission, but we already know most of the people there and their motivations, sooooo.... not sure how they'll manage the gigantic "who's who?!" element that's been a huge part of the previous games.

Spoiler:
We don't know most of the characters.
1. Sigma's consciousness from VLR and after he got old in young Sigma's body
2. Phi from Phi's ending (and actually we don't know much about her)
3. Human Luna, and we don't know much about her as well, because she could be quite different from Real Luna.
4. Kyle in a body we don't know yet (well, it's the body of "?", the player, so maybe we're playing as him). Also they said he is supposed to "infiltrate" the test site, so there is also a chance he isn't among the 9 regular entrants?
5.-9. Five other persons we have no clue about

So we know less than half the persons, and of the remaining four, three are still large mysteries for us.

Edit: Okay, I forgot that Uchikoshi said Junpei will also be a "participant". However, that's strange because in VLR it is said he was the conductor of the experiment. Uchikoshi's English skills aren't that great, though, maybe he just used a wrong term.

I'm actually kind of concerned about that too.
Spoiler:
Was the Q Building at the Mars test site? The twist has previously been about the game's location and character's identities. Maybe the twist/s will relate to something different this time.

I agree, I think we know much more characters than we did previously, but to be fair we dont know very much about those characters.
I dont know what to think. I'm sure Uchikoshi will toy with our expectations - remember how we thought VLR's characters just ripped off 999's characters (or how 999's were anime stereotypes) and they certainly weren't.
I can see the concern, but maybe just knowing the names isnt the the end of the world....

Well, 999 was great at betraying our expectations of characters from their designs and initial impressions, whereas VLR was... exceedingly mediocre in that respect.

Could Human Luna be the one who thought up Radical-6? Maybe it malfunctioned badly (became a virus and made people kill themselves) but she didnt want that to happen. Maybe Sigma lost his arms because of her

Phi and Kyle are there TO SAVE THE WOOOOOORLD, aren't they? As for Human!Luna... isn't Robot!Luna based on her personality-wise, too? I think it's at least safe to say that she's not a villain, considering Sigma sacrificed his arms for her and then built a robot of her.

When you're trying to figure out the villain/mastermind, being able to cross off half the cast is kind of a big deal :L

I don't think Human Luna will be a villain, I mean, TBH I thought Robo Luna was bad based upon expectations from 999, but she was kind and gentle.
I doubt Akane is a true villain even if she is wearing the FTS robes..

Wow, looks like I missed a lot of things since the last time I checked.

Ok, so I think it's pretty clear who the protagonist of the 3rd game is going to be :

Spoiler: THEORIES TIME!!
It's highly likely ? is the protagonist, for two reasons mainly :

1) the way he's introduced during the true ending, without even any name and letting us believe it's Kyle at first.
2) what Akane tells you during the true ending, how ? is supposed to be an "unknown variable" (I don't remember the exact words) and the only person that can make the AB Project succeed. The way she's talking, it feels like she's not only talking to the character, but the player him/herself. I don't think it's just some sort of easter egg or hidden message, and more like some foreshadowing for the next game. Makes sense that the player would be the only person who can save the world. It would also make sense that the player knew of events Kyle wouldn't be able to know, though I'm probably reading too much into that here. Then again, they did manage to make the flowchart, a pure gameplay element, an integral part of the story, flawlessly.

Of course, it's pretty much guaranteed we won't know that until the end of the 3rd game (or at least, after a major plot twist). We know something will happen to the character, since their consciousness was pushed away due to some event (a death, maybe?)

But who's ?... definitely not Sigma or Phi, since Akane wouldn't have said that Sigma and Phi couldn't succeed by themselves if that was the case. Not Junpei either.

I was reading the GameFAQ Boards and some theories:

Spoiler:
What if Snake/Light is Brother? Unlikely I know.. I cant see him as a villain, but what about this - remember how Ace made and entered the Nonary Game because he wanted to be cured of his prosopognosia? What if its the same thing with Snake and his blindness?
The opposite of 'Left' is 'Right' - which (kinda) sounds like an Ingrish way of saying 'Light'....
It seems odd though because in 999 Snake didnt seem THAT old and Brother is supposedly very old.
I like the theory that Gordain (the guy on the Gigantic) is Brother.
As for ?, maybe thats a completely new character?

For me, the protagonist will be:

Spoiler:
Kyle, inside the "body" of the player, whose consciousness will be inside Kyle's...or something like that

I do remember talking about something of the sort with my boyfriend, but bear in mind that, while he played the whole game, I didn't. I did read countless spoilers, though ;X

Don' t think it's possible. Clover talk about her brother during VLR, and it doesn't sound like the leader of a terrorist organisation/religious extremists.

And refresh my memory... who's that Gordain character again? You mean, the owner of the boat?

Spoiler: About my ? theory
Another reason I think ? is the playable character is because he's an esper, who can reach the morphogenetic field. So far, all the playable characters have been Espers, so it's not so much a reason. I don't think we'll get to play as Sigma or Junpei. Phi sounds highly unlikely too.

So just folded VLA into that pocket of games I have finished.

It was pretty good apart from one glaring plothole that is shocking and infuriating me.

Spoiler: VLR (don't read if you ain't beat it.
If you are old!Sigma the whole time, how the hell didn't you notice your voice being changed. I understand this is why he wasn't voiced. However after 999 I was watchful for interface and mechanical things like that and sure as hell I was wondering why I wasn't voiced and no one else was. I assumed it would play into a ploy at some point but no, it's just not explained. That's a problem because it should have to be explained...it's the single biggest tell that you have changed in age. Akane sure as hell didn't sound the same as she did 45 years ago. Why should you?

Spoiler:
Eh... that can be explained away by the fact that everybody felt strange when the game began, Sigma included, because they were under the influence of Radical-6 (or whatever number). There were also more important things needing Sigma's attention.

Spoiler:
I don't buy it, feeling strange from radical-6 and gravity was described as a physiological sensation, and paying attention to something does not negate such weird things. Think about how he freaked out when he saw his hands bleeding white, he would have noticed an older gruffer voice.

Bleeding white is just plain unnatural, and it's right in front of his face. I'd say that's far more noticeable than having an older voice.

Spoiler:
Sure it's far more noticeable, in the same way a mushroom cloud is more noticeable than a car explosion. You would still take note of a different voice. The monocle thing and his arms can be explained as they were probably intended to be as natural as possible for Dr Sigma's use but a 25 year old would certainly notice if his voice aged 45 years. It's like not noticing a change in your voice if you heightened the pitch with helium.
