The trainer designs aren't all that bad, aside from the odd hair design the girl is sporting. It's like they couldn't decide of she should have a hat or big hair, so they gave her both. It's only a matter of time before 4chan decides to make a comic where she has a giant tumor under that hairdo or something equally 4chanish.
Gen 2: You got to pick a mamas boy (Ethan) and a city girl who happened to grow up in a small town (Kris) or HOWDY Y'ALL (Lyra).
Gen 3: You got to pick a white haired rebel (Brendan) or McTits (May).
Gen 4: You got to pick either Mr. Smart (Lucas) or LET'S GO SHOPPING! (Dawn)
Yeah, I just went there. Gen 5 doesn't look any more "we're trying to reach out to different kinds of children" than the rest.
Well, technically we didn't even have that option until late in the second gen, as Leaf and Lyra are 3rd and 4th gen remake-exclusive characters of past games, respectively. I know that's not the point, but still.

It could lose its lets when it evolves... I wouldn't mind a giant snake xD (The only problem is then it would probably be Grass/Poison, and I'd rather have a more... interesting secondary type)
If the water starter was water/ice, that would be neat. Not very new or original, but it would be an easy way to get a good ice pokemon, and it would get STAB from ice moves (right now I wish my feraligatr got stab on ice fang T_T)
If the fire starter is a pig... will it probably become a ground type then? (It if turns out to be grass/poison, water/ice, and fire/ground, our weird little otter thing is going to be owning the other two o.O)

Like the new battle graphic system. A lot, really. As long as animations don't turn out to be all choppy and ridiculous (Raikou's kinda does, but Entei's is great, IMO), I'll be all for them.
And I still need to hear the music, but I'm assuming it's good, like it's always been.
The games look promising. Not super-innovative, but innovative enough, like most generations (more innovative than Diamond/Pearl, IMO).

Did I mention I'm really hoping for a good story, though I'm not holding my breath? I really, really want them to actually put an effort in this time. It's not that it's a bad plot..it's just that there isn't much of it. >_>
I heard on Serebii that Zorua/rk is only attainable via one of those events. Grr. I was looking forward to having it on my team..
I got Diamond as soon as it came out. And then Platinum came out two years later with a billion more features or something. Argh.

If you want plot in a Pokemon game, you'd be better off with the Mystery Dungeon and Ranger spinoffs.

Yes, I've played a Mystery Dungeon game. I really, really enjoyed it. Because the game itself was so frustrating and repetitive, the only thing that kept me playing was the great story and characters. They're not top of the range like...AA or Hotel Dusk or Kingdom Hearts, even, but they were very very good, especially for a video game.
I think that the rigid story format for Mystery Dungeon worked well. It wouldn't work so well in the main series but couldn't they come up with something to fit the gameplay style? Meh, they probably won't. My hopes aren't high.

If they came up with awesome locations and routes with stuff, I'd be happy with that if they didn't make a super-awesome plot. I'd be like, "Squeeee I'm going through a super-fun magical adventure in all these awesome places!!! :3" I find something attractive in a game where you go through nice locations on a simple macguffin quest
(how about a place that always has meteor showers... a huuuuuge and expansive forest... A marshy boggy place... A geyser-filled place... A loooong canyon where you need to walk along a narrow path on the rim, and then maybe a while later (after rock climb?) you can go down to the bottom... a set of a lot of really small islands... iunno, just throwing out random ideas)
Also, I'm doing Kanto in HG, and I find this whole setup of okay-get-the-badges-in-any-order-and-go-to-any-city-you-want-without-much-plot-or-difficulty-and-it-is-not-very-long-or-hard-but-you-get-to-do-what-you-want is pretty fun at this stage in the game, after going through a regular first region. I would be very happy if there was a region or two like Kanto after the first region :3 (Instead of remaking Gen 3, just make the Hoenn region the second region?)
