There have been ways of glorying "old-school" that work better than this. For example, Contra Shattered Soldier. It took everything that made Contra memorable (A hard as hell sci-fi themed run and gunner with tight controls), and updated the art style to look more "modern." Another good example would be New Super Mario Bros, which played like the old Mario platformers for NES and SNES, but added in everything that has become a staple in the 3D games (butt stomp, wall jumps, etc) in a way that actually worked.
I wouldn't be prejudging it if the game wasn't the way it is, have not I been waiting over a decade for this game.

You know, I'm going to edit my INITIAL idea, and add the thought that they will make a "Sonic the Hedgehog 4" for the VC, which would, without a doubt, cause people to go to Nintendo's HQ and toss rocks through their windows when it would be revealed that only Nintendo would get the rights, but here's my final thought, on Nintendo's "Ideas" in general:
Previously it seemed that Nintendo was going for a new generation of gamers, with the release of more recent games, and with the deals signed with companies like Capcom and Sega, and it seemed to be working well, but NOW it seems more like they're also going back to their loyal fans and giving them some of what made them welcome as a household name in the past, with some of the earliest "Non-Series Games" being some of their greatest hits, like Earthbound, and let me just add this: Until "Mother 3" comes out in N.A., Earthbound will only be considered as a "Non-Series Game", but to be frank, When Melee came out, it made people wonder who Marth and Roy were, so using "Lucas" in Brawl is probably a sign of things to come... wait, I veered off my point:
With the disclosure of "Mega Man 9", it is quite obvious that Nintendo is holding nothing back: Being the oldest "Player" in the Console War, they have the distinct advantage of bringing back Old Favorites, Which appears to be the second-best types of games to the Players, with the first being the MAIN hits of the consoles, like "MGS4", "H3", or "SSB:B", and if Nintendo could keep bringing out shockers like THIS into our world, they could almost make us forget about the fact that the GAMECUBE existed, save the Wavebird idea...

Also, I'm going to add that I find yaminomalex's arguments to be VALID, which sounds contradictory to what I've just been SAYING, but I have to add this: Some games can push further and bypass all other competition, others push through and fall into the chasm of "Bad Game Ideas" like "Pong 3-D"... but games like Mega Man 9, if it goes back to its roots, will be a game that pushes no envelopes until proven otherwise, so before we, as PW fans, "Pass Judgement" I think it's safe to say that all we can do is scream like 9-year old fangirls at this new development, until it comes out and some of us become angry flaming ranters on how nothing's changed while the rest of us can act like we're 70 or 80 and rant about how "Kids These Days have no respect for the old games".

My reaction would have been the same if Mega Man 8 wasn't released on the PSX and Saturn. They broke the roots there, IMO.
I dunno, the comeback came off as small now thanks to MM9 being a WiiWare exclusive. I thought the idea of being able to play the same version of a game that'll induce nostalgic feelings no matter what seventh-generation console they own was kinda awesome.
I hope they'll bring Megaman 3-7 to the VC within a short period of time to celebrate this comeback.

See, they already have an "Anniversary Collection" of the series... lets see... if each Megaman game was about... 500-1000 points, then it would be a total of either 3500 dollars (Using a Credit Card and online transaction), or 7000 points. If MONEY is used at a store, since I only see 20.00 cards, either 40.00, or 80.00...
But I can STILL see them releasing One Megaman Game a Week, until they finally end with Megaman 9 on the VC.
....Woah. Rant makes sense to me....

Only those Xs were really hard...and the Japanese version of Zero 4.
I agree with some of you others...doesn't feel spectacular enough for the revival of a game series eleven years later.

Umm... I posted my... reason why... below that.
They HAVE a game with those Mega Mans, already out! This is the reason why I don't re-buy it on the VC: I have it already!It's also the reason why, though Im GLAD, for sure, about Earthbound's VC release, I probably won't buy it: I have a perfectly good Working SNES... 2, actually, the old, and new versions (The new one works great, the old one is glitch-prone... makes Secret of Evermore funny... *Searches for the one man in the desert with the "Formula"... HE'S EVERYWHERE!!!)...
But as I said before, if people want to play those games, why not just buy the DISK from "Megaman Anniversary Collection"? It might even be CHEAPER to buy it, depending on the price of it now, which, considering the time and system, would probably be relatively cheap (Gamecube)... *shrugs*
