I'm looking forward to your list. By the second part of your post, did you mean that the screenshot was wrong, or the name itself was? Because there was a Final Fantasy III for SNES, which was Final Fantasy VI in Japan. I am holding the actual cartridge right now:)

Original Japanese cartridge *-*
The screenshot was wrong, because Zeromus is a boss of Final Fantasy II/IV.
This is Final Fantasy VI =P

I am so glad to see more than one Terranigma mention on here! That was one of my favorite SNES games, and it's one of the few retro games that's as good now as it used to be. Most SNES-era RPGs that are turn-based are too mindless to be enjoyable for me now - I could never play through Breath of Fire, for example (though I'm managing Lufia 2, since that's extremely puzzle-heavy). Weirdly enough, I played through Phantasy Star 4 last year and really liked it, though I think it pulled through based on nostalgia factor from the hours I spent on Phantasy Star 1...

One game that I've been wondering about is Lunar - I was thinking of picking up one of the re-releases for PS, because it seems that a lot of people who managed to play the Sega CD version really enjoyed it. Does anyone who's played it think it'll still be enjoyable?

Glad I'm not the only Terranigma fan on the forum - I prefer Illusion of Time (/Gaia) though.

I use the Wii's Virtual Console for my retro fix, and I can't get enough Mega Man. I've got 1-3 (and downloaded 9, if you consider that retro) and have beaten all but 2. Wily is TOUGH (and Yellow Devil is not).

I play SMB3 every now and then, but I suck at it. :(

I recently downloaded Castlevania 1 and 4, not that good.

Also, Super Punch-Out!! Totally awesome.

I also have Super Mario RPG... didn't like it that much.

Ooh, I also have Kid Icarus! Loved it, beat it, last boss is hard unless you know a certain trick.

Man, that is an epic list...

I use Virtual Console as well: Super Mario RPG, Pokemon Snap, Mario 3, River City Ransom, Galaga, and Paper Mario. I also downloaded Mega Man 9 and those achievements are ludicrous. My favorite Mega Man's gotta be 2.

I agree, Mario 3 is not an easy game, but when you've played it as much as I have, it starts taking over your mind and you memorize where stuff is... :S

I'm sad to hear that Castlevania 1 & 4 didn't entertain, 4 happens to be my favorite version, while Castlevania is one of my favorites. Anyways, it can't be exciting to everyone, or it wouldn't be a proper game;D

I love Super Punch Out! Great game! However, I play the NES Punch Out 10 times more, maybe just cause I grew up with it...

Mario RPG, as I said, is on my VC. I haven't played it in a while, but replay that game and use the Geno Whirl trick and blow enemies away for 9999 damage. It's mindless fun at its best.

I really need to play Kid Icarus one day...

Really? The only ludicrous ones I remember were the one where you have to get to a boss without shooting and the one where you have to beat each robot master with the Mega Buster (that means Plug Man). And I don't see why everyone raves about MM2 as opposed to the others, but maybe that's because I have the slowed down PAL version. I'll admit the final boss battle is awesome and a half (beat it recently, Buebeam Trap was the obstacle that made it difficult).

I didn't mean they weren't good, I just feel the series is a tad overrated. I'm halfway through 1, I can't get past the level with the Frankenstein monster as the boss.

Also, Medusa heads. *shudders*

I could never get the timing down, and what I didn't like about it was the fact that you had no way to tell what enemies are weak to what except through trial and error - which wastes FP. Mega Man games are much the same, but each weapon has its own energy meter, and it's quick and easy to try everything.

...It's strange. The reason I dislike Super Mario RPG is the same reason I like Mega Man... Also, speaking of Mega Man, there's this part in Wily level 2 of MM1 that is REALLY fun, it's those 4 turrets aligned perfectly on the wall so you can take them all out with one shot of the Elec Beam. It's fun to watch them go boom, boom, boom, boom. :edgy:

Cause it's pretty rare, I guess? If I remember correctly, everyone considered Dracula X/Vampire's Kiss/Akumajō Dracula X Chi no Rondo was considered by many Castlevania fans as the weak link of the series. It was great, of course, but not as good as those older linear-style games I remember, and the newer Metroidvania styles that came later.

Nevertheless, it was still an amazing game and I'd like to get my hands on it too...

Very right you are. According to wikia and Finnish Castlevania fansite Vampire's Kiss is the rarest Castlevania game to date, even when compared to Legends.

I was playing some NES and SNES games just the other day. :will: A lot of them are ones I played as a little kid, especially the NES games. I didn't actually own a SNES, but I went to my neighbor's house and played theirs instead.

Some of my favorite NES games:
Adventures of Lolo
Codename Viper
Dr. Chaos
Duck Hunt
Rygar
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 3
Ghosts 'n' Goblins (even with save states this game is ridiculously difficult...)
Wizards and Warriors

SNES:
Donkey Kong Country
Super Mario RPG
Super Mario World

I plan to finally play Earthbound soon, too!

Some of these posts make me feel so old :oldbag:

I loved the Dizzy games when I was a kid (I miss my commodore 64!) and still play Fantastic Dizzy on my poor battered Megadrive, along with James Pond.

Ah, another C64 user! And British I assume to boot (given you mention Dizzy and have UK in your handle)..? My first computer (way back in 1984) and still the best :karma:

Never got on with the Dizzy games mind you. Plenty of people did. I think the only one I really gave a go to was the last (Crystal Kingdom)...

I used to love N64 when I was a kid, looking back it was pretty mediocre compared to PS1 or even Saturn though.

Anyway, which one of these SNES games should I buy next?
- SkyBlazer
- ShadowRun
- Day of the Tentacle
- Plok
- Secret of Evermore

@ the original topic poster: damn, your list is huge lol. or maybe it's just the pictures giving it that illusion. Anyway, I love how you actually recognized Robotnik's Bean Machine, even though I hadn't heard of it before I got the Sonic Mega Collection (GCN, also first game I got for that system when it came out) I loved playing through it and thought it was awesome. It's completely underrated.

For 3d Blast - I thought that game blowed, I'm sorry :P For me, Sonic is 2D. NOT 3D. Sonic side scrollers are my love.

I'm getting back into playing NES games, it's been a little while. I invested 25 bucks into something that changed NES gaming for me forever.

It's unrivaled controls - I got an adapter for my original NES game controller that uses the USB port to plug into my computer. No modding of my original controller, whatsoever. I play through a couple of emulators (some games aren't fully compatible with one, but they will be with another) so it really depends. Tetris has become so much more fun for me, though.

Haha, yeah, the list is long, but I've been building on that collection for quite some time now. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine is a part of my Sonic 3-in-1 collection game for the Genesis, and I just love it. I also want to find adaptations of it, like Kirby's Avalanche, and Puyo Pop. All very similar, but with character and slight gameplay changes.

Sonic 3D Blast is my least favorite Sonic game, don't worry. I want to find it though, because it was a part of my Sonic Mega Collection game when I owned a Gamecube. I agree, 3D Sonic games are terrible, but I did take a small liking to Adventure 2 Battle and Heroes...

I also own an adapter for my NES controller, but my SNES and Genesis controllers as well. I've been desperately trying to beat any of the Ninja Gaiden games or Battletoads without losing my mind. Fun stuff.

I know I'm late but...

Did you buy it?

I have to sue the VC for my retro goodness (or my recently bought N64 *squee!*) because I was born in '94 and was more of a handheld gamer until I got the GameCube. So Pokémon and Mairo are my fondest memories.

While I do fail at Super Mario Bros, I find it fun. Same with Megaman 1, 2 and 9. SMRPG's fun, but I don't see why it's "OMGTEHBESTGAMEEVAR".

Oh and what N64 gams should I buy? banjo kazooie and Lylat Wars/StarFox 64 are 2 I want, but I needs me more to buy. And should I buy Lylat Wars or use the VC for it?

I definitely did buy Wild Gunman, it was only $10 for the brand new, boxed game! It even included the old style Nintendo poster and the manual!

I also fail to see why Super Mario RPG was considered to be so incredibly amazing, but it holds a special place in my heart, since I just loved the gameplay and music. The story was a bit weak though.

Anyways, with my personal experiences from the N64, I seriously recommend Pokemon Snap and Pokemon Stadium 1/2 (If you somewhat like Pokemon games, and Pokemon Snap still, even if you don't), Paper Mario (So much better than SMRPG, in my opinion), Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask, Super Smash Bros, Mario Party 1/2/3, Donkey Kong 64, Mario Kart 64, and Super Mario 64.

The purchasing of Starfox 64 depends on where you're buying from. If it's relatively easy to find retro games in your area, then it's much more worth it to play it on an original console instead of an artificial classic controller. Also, if Lylat Wars is the specific version you want, you'll have to find it on eBay, or a local area, considering Lylat Wars is the European version of Starfox 64. On the VC, only the N.A. version called Starfox 64 has been released.

I'm sure LW has been released on VC. Yeah, I'll check Amazon and Ebay. Thanks.

Now for some comments about the reccomendations:
I've already got SSB because I ordered it with my N64, so that's good, I have PM, And the 2 Zelda games on the Collector's Edition on the GC, and the rest sound good. I am a major fan of Pokémon so I shall definately buy PS 1 and 2, plus Snap. The Mario Party games, well, I'll give them a go. Donkey Kong 64 looks fun from what I've seen, I like the Mario Kart series and SM 64 I'll get because it's supposedly another contender for the best game ever. Sadly, I didn't like the DS version too much.

EDIT: After looking on Amazon, I can buy everything but Stadium 2 and the Mario Party games for £45. I'll check on Ebay. I can get cheaper but I want to buy from reliable sellers if I buy on Amazon.

Ah, I see. The releases must be different according to country, I do not get Lylat Wars here in Canada.

You already have Super Smash Bros and Paper Mario, way to be, Paper Mario happens to be my favorite Nintendo RPG aside from Earthbound. It's good that you're a major fan of Pokemon, the experience on Pokemon Snap will be that much funnier when you take ridiculous photos of one Pokemon as you try to lure another over with food, all while you try to hit another out of its hiding place with a projectile. Ah, the memories...

I found Mario Party to be a great multiplayer game, and a great way to pass the time playing mini-games. However, in no way do you have to buy them if you don't want to. :edgy:

Donkey Kong 64 was probably the best Donkey Kong game I ever played, aside from Donkey Kong Country 2. Mario Kart 64 was just amazing, and Mario 64 was waaaaaaaay better than the DS version, which I also disliked, because for me, it ruined a classic game by over complicating it. Well, good luck with your search!

Hehe, thanks. I hate how Earthbound wasn't realeased in Europe, so I'm going to make sure that I paly it some day (legally), even if it means I have to spend a lot of money. I'm not living without playing such a great looking RPG.

Argh, yeah, it was released in America, but it's so rare now that it's about 80 dollars minimum to buy it. Also, it will apparently never be released on VC, so one day I might just have to splurge to play it.

I've played Mother 2 on Super Famicom, where my friend translated the battles for me. It was an amazing game, and I must have the English version!

Earthbound is one of those odd ones that have gone up in price over the years for some reason... even though it isn't that rare. I recall paying about US$80 for my complete copy about 5-6 years back...

Lucky! Where was it you bought it from? If it was eBay, I recommend heading over there and seeing just how much they've gone up. Plus, I live in Canada, so other shipping, conversion, and customs charges occur as well.

I've been finding super rare games around town, so I'm hoping someone just decides to sell it one day, and if not, I'll have to splurge when I'm older.

Yeah, it was eBay, from a seller in Australia iirc. Guess they'd imported it too at the time cos it hadn't come out in PAL. And indeed, I know where the price has gone since, it's an odd one. Until such time it ever might come out on VC.

I've seriously been hoping for a VC release too, but apparently, the pop-culture references in Earthbound frightened Nintendo's lawyers, and they refused to release it unless certain changes were made. Since the original creator refused to make the changes, Earthbound was never released on VC.

Yes, it does sound pretty stupid.

It's a strange game... I've got it on the Gamecube, the pre-order bonus in Japan for Baten Kaitos. You need the guide though to complete it... telling you where the magic items are.

I think I should mention that I'm now searching for terrible games mentioned by the AVGN to add to my collection too.

I've already found "The Uncanny X-Men", "Fester's Quest", and "Spiritual Warfare".
