Very fun game, and the only Enix game I've ever seen (before Square bought them of course). I happened to get it for my birthday from a friend I barely knew. None of my friends heard of it untill I showed it to them. But then they'd ask to play Diddy Kong Racing instead. It was an innovative game that never really caught on.

I so totally remember this game! I used to rent it all of the time as a little kid. It was so freaking awesome and I miss it so much now that you mentioned it. I would so love to play it again. I wonder if they're any on E-bay? :gumshoe:

EDIT: Sweet, I just ordered a copy. I can't wait for it to arrive in the mail! :larry2:

Why, nobody has mentioned Goemon: Legend Of The Mystical Ninja for the N64. I used to rent that game all the time. Then it seemed to have disappeared, and I wanted to buy it, but alas, I could not find it anywhere.

Super Ninja Boys for SNES. Why I liked it so much when the game was strange and odd, I don't know.

On that same note, Paladin's Quest for SNES. Only game I've ever played where all your magic is cast using your hit points. Made fighting a little TRICKY sometimes.

Well, this was JAPAN ONLY and I have to say that this game was quite good, despite low sales of this game (NAMCO will never release it to the USA) the battle fighting system was like a twist of Super Robot Wars and Marvel VS. Capcom with good detailed 2D sprites. (For those of you MORRIGAN AENSLAND players, if you're sick of seeing the same, old, butchered Morrigan sprite then guess what? She has indeed a new sprite look in this game)

However, there are many NAMCO and CAPCOM characters...(Sorry, :nick: is not in it) from a total of over 200 characters. (GOOD GUYS and BAD GUYS) I have to say, this RPG is quite obscure...

The Goemon games that made it to America:

The Legend of the Mystical Ninja (Super Nintendo)
Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon (Nintendo 64)
Goemon's great adventure (Nintendo 64)

Only 3 series that made it outside Japan. The Goemon series was a very fun game from KONAMI. :phoenix:

Beasts & Bumpkins

A very funny game, where you play a king who has been thrown out of his kingdom. You get to control a few pesants, and your prime objective is to build a small village for them to flourish. And have lots and lots of mad farmer sex and get many babies. 'cause if you don't, your entire village grows into useless old people, and you've basicly lost. Which will usually happen for me. Hmph.

Anyway, it's a pretty slick game, although it's extremely hard, not to mention the cheat codes available for the game can't be accessed, meaning you really get stuck. But the storyline is kind of cool. The best of the game is the characters. Basicly, the women refuses to have sex with anything else than normal male pesants, for one reason: when a pesent is converted into a class (like a soldier, or priest) they turn ugly. It's pretty hilarious to see how the men, after walking into a vacent house with a woman, shouts "waHAAAAAI!", and when two people cross each other on the street, they talk with each other. Simple, crude, and failed miserably, but it was a cool concept.

It had potential. You can find a demo on it on the 'net, too.

Seriously, why wasn't Mischief Makers more popular? With innovative gameplay, creative level design, and an offbeat story, this game is an unappreciated gem. I rented it many times when I was a kid, and eventually found a used copy and bought it. Definitely a worthy investment! :edgy:

Okay, I have 3:

Brave Fencer Musashi (PS1): It may not be that obscure, but this game's great! It is FAAAAAAAAAR more better than the PS2 sequel.

Mad Maestro (PS2): A game in which you get to play as an orchestra conductor? How insane! And fun! It is one of the few game that uses the pressure sensitivity on the button on the PS2 controller.

Metropolismania (PS2): You guys probably never heard of this game. I picked this up with Mad Maestro for $15, and it is one of the best city-making sims I've ever played (Okay, it's the only city-making sim I've ever played, but it's a great game nonetheless).

*brainsplosion* That is still one of my favourite games! Right up there with Earthbound - and, arguably, Mischief Makers, which I had a copy of when I was a kid - in terms of humour and the giant robot battles...*siiiiiigh* I also grabbed a copy of Vagrant Story last year, and...I don't get it. Innovative, yeah, but it didn't hook me at all. Maybe I should have played longer?

Aaand...love Theme Hospital, love Theme Park World, love Cave Story, love Gex- oh, I have a fact for Gex. In the first N64 Gex game, Gex was voiced by one Mr. Leslie Nielsen. Apparently.

My Contributions:
Image
Illusion of Gaia: SNES. Personally, I thought this was better than Terranigma. I played it ONCE when I was 8 on a rental, held it in the back of my head for nigh on 11 years, then finally got a computer and downloaded a ROM of it. Finally finishing it...man. Such a sense of completion. And that ending, wow.

Image
Jade Cocoon: PSX. Man, this boxart is a lot different from my one. Using the same sorta monster-catching system as Pokemon (coming two years afterwards, apparently), I played a demo of this as a kid and just never forgot it. I have a copy now and it's great.

Image
Uniracers: SNES.
COME ON, it's UNICYCLE RACING! You can't get much cooler than that.

Others: Grandia for the PSX (not sure how popular this is. I wasn't a Playstation kid.), Bust-A-Groove for the PSX (dancing game! I STILL say this is way better than Gitaroo Man).
That apostrophe is preposterous! It's a preposterous apostrophe!

Don't know if anyone has mentioned these yet, but, I was quite fond of them, when I was younger.

Image
Snatcher for the Mega-CD/Sega-CD, which goes for a lot on EBay, these days.

Image

Image
Tombi 1, and the sequel Tombi 2. Both for PS1.

Quite obscure to find, again, sells for a lot on EBay.

Image
Broken Sword for the PS1. Not so hard to find since there's the budget PC versions of it, and the sequel Broken Sword II also, quite readily around to buy. There's even a GBA port, of the first title, too. This was the first game I ever got, for my PS1, ironically.

Theme Park and Theme Hospital, I still own for the PS1, too.

I used to like those as a kid, but, they've been mentioned numerous times, so far.

Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean, as well as its prequel sequel, Baten Kaitos Origins.

I know three people who have played these games. THREE. And that's terrible, because they are great.

Most people are turned off because the game uses a card battle system. Admittably, the card battle system in the first game is rather confusing. The first game also has not-so-good voice acting (all the children have the same voices), and all the voice-acting out of battle has this weird reverb effect.

However!! The second game (which is a prequel) has much better voice acting, a less complicated battle system, and absolutley no weird reverb effect.

I suggest renting one of them (preferably Origins) if you have the time and aren't afraid to try playing a card battle RPG.

I suppose the PC version of Sonic Heroes counts. It was released as a budget title, over 6 months late, and didn't get stocked at every major retailer. Coming out in late 2004 so close to juggernauts like Halo 2 and GTA San Andreas probably hurt sales also.

But this edition is underrated. Only one to officially support resolutions above 480p, which makes a huge difference. Not merely upscaling (i.e. fake) like a 360 or PS3. Rumble is intact too. Good, since it's something usually left out of PC games.

It went down to $2.49 new at GS/EB a few months ago. Might be sold out now, not sure. I recommend giving this a try if you find one for sale.
