I'm only here cuz I heard there was a new trailer

I like the anime style, but the opening is kinda meh to me. No word salads?!

grim_tales wrote:

If they thought 999 was 'meh,' then which are the adventure games that they think are as good as we think 999 is? xD

In Japan I dont think 999 got as good reviews because theyd seen it before with stuff like Ever 17 and America hadn't. In the West 999 was something new and fresh and I'm so glad Aksys took a chance on it.
I like the new trailer - I guess this will play at the start of 999 when you load up the game?

Spoiler:
What the heck does "Two Milk Men Go Come" mean? Maybe its a not spoilery spoiler to explain the Prisoners Dilema?

The use of English words surely means it will be localised soon. It MUST! xD

Ever17 was released in the US, though. In fact, it was one of the most well-known VNs here for a long time because of that. The only reason it's less well-known now is that it's so hard to get because of the US publisher going bankrupt several years ago.

I've only done one ending at the moment of 999, but at the moment the story-telling in 999 feels to me very much inferior to Chunsoft's own Kamaitachi no Yoru and 428 ~ Fuusa Sareta Shibuya de. It's not just the big picture, even compared only to Chunsoft's own adventures, 999 feels a bit off, I think.

... Mmm... I'd reserver judgement on 999 until you've gotten all the endings. I'm not being sarcastic when I say it totally changes your perspective on the game.

On the other hand, I've never played other Chunsoft adventures, so perhaps you're the better judge then I.

The full 10-minute or so anime ep is up now.

Also, someone pointed out to me what "Two Milkmen Go Comedy" is.

Spoiler: This isn't really a spoiler but
It's an anagram for "Welcome to my kingdom". Oh that wacky Zero III.

Alright, I'm trying to balance this and some other things, but I ran to my computer when I heard "New trailer." This is not what I was expecting, but far better. I haven't had the time to read this thread all the way through yet, so I don't know if someone's started a super- comprehensive breakdown yet. I'm not far in yet, so here's what I've noticed:

Spoiler: Total Spoilers for 999, and the anime
Ok, so the gasmask person from the trailer may not even be our beloved Akane, it may just be a henchman hired by Zero the third. But if he's an AI... There is definitely still someone behind the scenes. Perhaps another member of June and Santa's "larger organization?"
Zero the Third will give me nightmares.
One of the bracelets that flashes by says solo on it, so we may actually have all 9 players this time around (No 9th man death early on.)
Opening Pairs: Phi/Sigma
Clover/K
(educated guessing from here on out)
Dio (sp? The top hat guy)/The little kid (who's name escapes me currently)
The Akane-looking lady (I swear Ill edit the names in later)/Alice
Which leaves our Bitter Old Man solo.
And someone is dead, Who is not one of the 9. Do they start with 10 and kill one off?
Then it skips to the Betrayal/Cooperation section, and Sigma's choice is not shown, as it will be the player's.
Really looking forward to this as a new way of choosing paths.

This is going to get outdated really fast and make me sound stupid, but Ill update as I go.

Ok, that's the best I can do for now. I don't know Japanese. The second someone better posts a more-detailed breakdown, I'll axe this one. I'm really only posting this here because I'm forgetful, and need to verify what I saw.
Oh god where are my legs

An idea:

Wouldnt it be cool if, in addition to alternate endings (I bet there will be some if not more than 999), you could replay the game from the POV of a different character which would also affect the game's story arc and outcome?

So a KH: Chain of Memories approach? Depending on how it's pulled off it could work really well, or suck.

^Chunsoft already did that with 428 ~ Fuusa Sareta Shibuya de~, featuring five protagonists whose storylines intersect and influence each other; you have to keep jumping in and out of storylines of individuals in order to progress the 'main' storyline. (for example, the very first 'puzzle' you have to solve is to make sure that the cop of the first storyline doesn't accidently arrest the boy from the second storyline, or else both storylines end on a game-over)

And it was awesome.

Some tantalising 999-2 news:

http://www.siliconera.com/2012/01/11/ex ... y-endings/

All I can say is, thats a lot of endings! Suddenly the trailer I saw doesnt look so spoilery after all.
Spoiler:
Which one is the True Ending? :D With that many endings, the "real" one better be bloody good but I hope its done in a slightly different way to 999 :D I like the way endings are blocked though.
If this isnt localised I will cry :(

"Parallel world"? I really hope that's just an iffy translation, because one of the reasons the big reveal at the end of 999 was so impressive was precisely because all the endings weren't the result of parallel worlds or anything like that. Then again, I don't really know how else they can explain it when they don't have a character that can follow a course of events in her head, then back up when she doesn't like what happens...

Wow, 24 endings! That's a lot, but I guess many of them are just bad endings, when you f*** it up midway.

I think what they're calling "parallel world" is just the morphogenetic field again or something like that. Or maybe they come up with another explanation this time.

Mmm... the fact that there's 24 endings tells us something.

Take the number 2, (For help and betray) and find the power of two that comes closest to, but not under 24.

Although 24 sounds a lot of endings, I hope they're all "proper" endings and described well like 999's were and don't just say something like "So and so died, the end" :P

Continuing from my previous post, assuming a clean Help/Betray scenario...

Image

We hit a contradiction. Although, I don't think any of us doubted that there would be dead ends, and thus options we're never allowed to follow.

Also, assuming this map is accurate, it isn't, but lets assume so the points you'd get for any given streak are:

Help/Help: +10
Win Betray: +15
Loose Betray: -5

But considering you start with 3 points, a loose streak is impossible.

Spoiler: The Trailer
Plus, Phi seems dedicated to making Sigma survives the first round, so Sigma starts the first choice with either +2 or +3.
And... if that's the case, assuming this map is accurate, The lowest Sigma could get is a score of 1, if he were betrayed every step of the way then on...

Sorry to knock out your chart so fast, Woost, but I just saw that Famitsu put up their article on their website, and it includes these shots:

So it looks like both choice of door and choice of betray/cooperate affects things.

Nah, All's good. I knew my map was inaccurate. Though, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed that my deductions from the graph were thrown out so quickly.

Still... Doors? It looks like from the map, that doors and co-op/betray run on two different counters. Meaning, that fact that you were helping or betraying has no effect on the game's path you take. At least, until you reach the inevitable mortality, which would theoretically conveniently occur off screenshot.

I guess you can also choose to replay any part of the game from this menu (so you don't have to replay the whole game to get a different ending).

It's seems obvious that the first three branches (from the top) depends on the door (red, blue, yellow) you have chosen.

Then there are only two branches at the next branching and no door symbol, so I don't know why there is a branching at all. Maybe that depends on whether you chose to betray or not. Note that the right branch don't offer a choice (or maybe just a later choice we don't see on this image).

The third branching then again depends on the door choice, but this time only two choices are available, so maybe you choose between the two remaining doors you didn't choose the first time?
But you see there'll be many choices and many branches, because that image only pictures the very beginning of the game (only one "escape room").

If there are 24 endings, I can see why you would be allowed to play from where you left off. Starting from the beginning all over again would take even longer than 999.
Maybe to get the true ending (?) you need to start over totally though, who knows?

I hopeso, but I'm not so sure. The only icon on the screen I assume means back. So it looks more like a reference then a map.

Now, what I want to know is, would the CMY doors in each branch all be the same? Obviously you might solve it with Alice one time and K another. But I'm not sure I want to solve those rooms 24 times over, particularly if the only difference is small talk.

Also, I'd argue the doors are not red Yelllow and blue, but Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow. Those are the primary colors of print, sans black, which would be marked with K. Hence CMYK. I wonder if there's a connection with our friend K.

Do you see the small frame around one of the squares? That means you can at least "select" the different stages.

Btw. here is a video of the Good People Die Demo for the Vita.

That button does indeed say "return", though that's in the sense of "return to the game", not "return to that point", if I'm not mistaken.

As for the doors, groups of 3 can combine their bracelet colors to choose which one to enter. If I had to hazard a guess, the two-way splits are help/betray points, but don't quote me on that.

Not necessarily.
In the AAI demo they also used some tracks from older games, which weren't used in the final version.
