There are better moves for inflicting confusion than Supersonic, so go with Double Team. But even so, I wouldn't rely on it. I seem to get hit 70% of the time after using it three times, and a turn you could be using it could be the one you're taken down by a landing rock type move.

What's wrong with U-turn? It's extremely useful for switching... more useful than supersonic or double team...
Yeah yeah also a bug move... but it's strategically useful.
There's also Protect if it's a Speed Boost one. Shadow Ball, even Giga Drain for the unexpected factor...
Double Team is pretty useless unless combined with accuracy-reducing moves like Mud Slap, Sand Attack etc to bring down accuracy stats quickly, or reducing the odds with confusion or paralysis.

I got to Red...and he kicked my ass. badly. I managed to KO his Pikachu, Charizard and Blasitoise but then I died!
Also, which is better: Jynx or Froslass? I have both and am willing to swap Jynx for a froslass. I heard it is good because it is the only Ice/Ghost type.

And I dont know if i should trade in my favourite team from Pearl yet. I can't help but thinking of it as cheating. The stats:

Empoleon- Lv.100
Aqua Jet
Surf
Brine
Ice Beam

Manetric- Lv.90
Roar
Thunder Fang
Thunder
Thunder Wave

Pidgeot- Lv.90
Strength
Cut
Fly
Rock Climb
(Yes, AR was used here to make it my HM slave SUPREME)

Gallade- Lv. 90
Psychic
False Swipe
Psycho cut
Close Combat

Blaziken- Lv. 90
Blast Burn
Double Kick
Blaze Kick
Flare blitz

Scizor- Lv. 100
False Swipe
X- scissor
Night slash
Rock smash

I mean, it just seems unfair... To be truthful, I want to trade in all my good stuff from Pearl in, but I don't have enough in HG to trade back. Hmmm...

NO I'M NOT COPYING CHLOE, I've always wanted a Bellossom but never had the patience to get one before.

Anyway.

Giga Drain
Leaf Storm
Sleep Powder
Stun Spore

Should I drop the Powder/Spore for Sunny Day? If I do, should I use Solarbeam instead of Leaf Storm?

And what exactly does 'nature' do?

I dunno how to put this, but I'll try anyway.

Basically Natures boost some stats and hinder some others. There are some that either don't have an effect or can, in some stats, decrease stats by a large margin depending on the Pokemon. It's useful for bringing out a Pokemon's true strength (but sometimes it can be a huge hassle to get the best Nature for your Pokemon).

If you're playing by yourself and not against others in a tourney or such then you don't really have to worry about Natures. It's only if you go to tourneys or play against others who worry about Natures that they come into play.

More details:

Natures apply a 10% boost to one stat whilst nerfing another stat by 10%. This can either seriously boost your Pokémon's combat abilities or make them suck. Some Natures apply the 10% boost and nerf to the same stat (can't believe I only just worked that out) so they end up having no effect at all on your Pokémon one way or the other. There's one nature for each combination of stat boosts and nerfs, and in HG/SS which stats (if any) are boosted and nerfed are marked by red highlights and blue highlights respectively. HP is never affected by Pokémon natures.

If you were lucky enough to get a Pokémon with the ideal beneficial nature for its species during the main game, you probably noticed it being unusually powerful against normally tough Pokémon. Elsewhere I've heard of someone with an unusually badass Typhlosion that's able to pulverise the entire Hard Mode E4 challenge except Lance, for example. The 10% differences at higher levels are big and because combat damage calculations involve a lot of multiplication the overall improvement in damage/survivability is much more than you'd think from a +10% modifier and very desirable if you're after the best possible version of the species.

As for your Bellossom, Sleep is far more useful in battles and for catching Pokémon than Paralysis, so you'd probably help your Belossom out by getting rid of Stun Spore. Sunny Day is an excellent choice, especially because 1) weather effects are staples of battle strategy at all levels and royally screw over your opponents so long as they're used properly and 2) Bell' has Chlorophyll to double its speed to useful levels with SD. Apparently Sunny Day is on Bellossom's standard movelist at Lv 1 so you may want to teach it via the Move Relearner in Blackthorn rather than a TM, but to do that you need a Heart Scale. I still haven't worked out a good method to farm Heart Scales in HG/SS yet. :/

As a rule, your Pokémon should never have more than one offensive move of the same type. Bellossom's strong points aren't offense anyway due to its moveset, so it should probably be given a few annoyer moves instead and make it a snare machine.

Solarbeam
Swagger
Sleep Powder
Sunny Day

Sleep and Confusion can be applied to the same Pokémon, and Swagger's a particularly nice - if risky - confusion inducer because it also heavily boosts the attack of the afflicted Pokémon, which means if it attacks itself it hits for boosted damage! Woo. Sunny Day is there for bonus speed, badly nerfing Water types which Bell' can switch into without fear, and also to make Solarbeam useful in combat. Unfortunately, all of Bellossom's possible damage attacks are either Grass or crap (Normal/Poison) so it will always have problems against Fire, Steel and Poison types in particular.

Hope that helps. ^^

The Move Relearner NPC works by referring to the Pokémon specie's internal movelist and the Pokémon's current level. It filters out anything that's learnt at higher levels than your Pokémon is currently, and also filters out the moves on the movelist that the Pokémon already knows, so what you're left with is literally everything that species could learn through levelling but has forgotten or was in a pre-evolved state at the appropriate level the first time around. It does not list any moves learnt only by pre-evolved versions of the species. (It also doesn't list a move twice if it shows up in the moveset as a base move the species knows at Lv 1 and a move learnt at a certain level.)

Generally if a Pokémon has an unusual evolution method, the evolution's movelist will actually be very different to its previous form. The most obvious example of this is Eevee and its seven evolutions, all of which have a large number of unique moves that Eevee couldn't learn. Occassionally the Pokémon also loses the ability to learn moves that its previous forms could learn. The easiest way to find out what a Pokémon has available to it is to check sites that have the full movelists available.

In Bellossom's case for example it loses the ability to learn Poison-type moves by level when it evolves and like most Pokémon that evolve by elemental stone its evolution's moveset is a lot smaller than the previous form. Compare Gloom's Levelset and Bellossom's Levelset.

That's weird, the Sinnoh Sound only plays on Thursdays. On Sundays, it plays random GB music that you couldn't get with GB Sounds. On Mondays and Fridays it plays a march which attracts wild Pokemon, on Tuesdays and Saturdays it plays a lullaby that repels wild Pokemon, and on Wednesdays it plays the Hoenn Sound which plays Hoenn music that attracts Hoenn Pokemon.

Wailord looks pretty normal sized actually, Arceus actually kinda looks bigger. '~'

Does anyone know how Happiness works in HGSS? I understand all of the levelling up, use it in important gym battles, walk with it in your party, haircuts stuff but I can't find a guide as to how any of the new HGSS features (like the Pokewalker and Pokemon walking behind you) affect Happiness. I want to evolve my Eevee into a big shiny Umbreon.

And I FINALLY caught my Lapras; using it instead of Gyarados. There's probably a reason why Gyarados is used more, but I don't care. Lapras is adorable, especially the way it floats behind you. And a great Special tanker. And it learns the most awesome moves ever. Speaking of, is Whirlpool needed for the plot to proceed? I really don't want to teach it to Lapras =(

I don't know about walking behind you, but strolling in the Walker definately improves happiness. Between that and haircuts, I'm pretty sure I managed to evolve Togepi in a couple days. Raising happiness is a LOT easier than I remember it in GSC.

And unfortunately, yes, you need to use Whirlpool in the Dragon's Den. I just threw it on my Gyrados along with the other HM water moves and Strength.

Anyone know when exactly you get stat bonuses from maxing EV?

Thanks for the info. Aargh, I love my Lapras too much to give it crappy moves...

Stat bonuses are received when you level up. 4 EVs = 1 point.

I just realized I played the game in the wrong order... I did all the Team Rocket stuff first, caught Gyarados, then went to Olivine, forgot about the Lighthouse, went to Cianwood and beat Chuck, then went to the Lighthouse, beat Jasmine, and now I'm about to beat Pryce. Result? My Pokemon are all horribly underlevelled and I can't find anywhere to train. And I don't have a Fire-type, so that annoying Hail/Blizzard combo is really getting on my nerves.

My extraordinarily nerdy encyclopaedic knowledge strikes again...

You can also force an EV recalculation by temporarily placing the Pokémon in the PC. (This definitely used to be true but I haven't actually verified it still works yet.)

Also, EVs in an individual stat get capped at 255, however because you gain 1 point in a stat per 4 EVs as has been stated, in practice 252 is the number you want in a stat to max it out. The total EVs a Pokémon can have across all its stats is 512, so EV train with that in mind. In theory that cap allows you to split the EVs 252/252/8 across the three best stats for that species, but it's not always desirable to do it that way - because EV training allows you to be precise enough with your Pokémon's stats to get certain species at the exact speed necessary to outspeed everything else, for example, optimised EV training is often set up to boost stats so they're the exact number needed to get the job done, freeing EVs for the third stat instead. Generally though spreading EVs across every stat just means your Pokémon isn't going to be particularly good at anything at all even if it can take the odd hit better and/or can deal slightly more damage than a properly optimised Pokémon.

It's also so much work which is why I haven't started doing this yet, nngh... X_x

As for Happiness, it's a hidden stat between 0 and 255. As well as the info mentioned already so far, it also goes down by 1 if your Pokémon faints, and catching a Pokémon in a Luxury Ball completely changes the happiness stat increases it receives from in-game events such as winning battles and getting a haircut. You might also want to find a Soothe Bell as that boosts happiness gain. There's more to it but I don't remember off the top of my head.

Personally if I needed a happy Pokémon whilst I was building up my Pokédex I'd just stuff their face with 10 of each vitamin (Protein, Calcium, Iron, Zinc, Carbos, HP Up) which has the double effect of giving them 510/512 EVs across all their stats and makes them very close to the evolution threshold for Pokémon that evolve by happiness. It's the quick and dirty way to do it, but it's also expensive and inefficient.
Does we even do these things anymore?

I have Blissey, Ninetails, Bellossom, Milotic, Flaafy and a random HM slave. I'm planning on adding Espeon at some point.

I like Blissey because her move soft-boiled saves me from getting HP recovery items, so I only have to use them on her.

The team I'm raising for the Battle Frontier seems to have a bit of a girly touch too. Miltank, Latias, and a female Aggron.
Miltank is ace for healing without using up items. In battle it heals half of Miltank's max HP, and out of battle you can give up a bit of Miltank's health to heal teammates.

FINALLY beat Pryce, now I'm back in Goldenrod - Radio Tower. The scene where your rival strips you is so strange... I love him in general, though. He's just too adorable, especially in Pokespe manga ~<3
I took advantage of the naming system (which includes emotes, of a sort) and have named my own character "=)" and my rival "DX", which is seriously entertaining. "That's why I, DX, will always be a better trainer than you, =)!"

I've decided to breed my Eevee to get one of each evolution. Because that'll work so well. Sadly my Eevee is male, so I'm using Ditto. The problem is that I've named all of my Pokemon after Fire Emblem characters and have unfortunately have created the ship of Colm/Bramimond, which is JUST PLAIN WRONG. Aargh. I hate it when I do this to myself.

Unrelated, but I LOVE the new Safari Zone. They FINALLY removed that annoying step limit! (Or did that happen in Diamond...? I don't remember =P) And the ability to move around habitats is just plain cool. On the downside, it seems so much smaller than before now that you can run all around it without having to pay serious amounts of money.

Silver is my absolute favorite of all the rival characters and probably my favorite Pokemon trainer to date. He's a lot darker than most of the other characters in the games, and I liked that he gets some good character development as the game goes on. He also has a cool design and theme music. <3

I don't think 'using in important battles' contributes. These items raise happiness:
'vitamins' [Protein, Iron etc]
EV-reducing berries
soft drinks [Lemonade, fresh water, Soda Pop]
maybe MooMoo Milk

Other items don't. So use soft drinks for all your potion-recovery needs. But they're a pain to buy as you can't just get them in multiples.
Holding Soothe Bell means happiness is raised by 2 every 256 steps, instead of 1.

I * assume* the Pokewalker raises happiness by the number of steps walked aka 1 per 256, and you take a lot of steps. I have no idea if it's raised more, or less...

HGSS filled a lot of plot holes in GSC.

I defeated Red with Bellossoms and Blissey. Blissey managed to defeat Snorlax and Charizard by using a toxic + Ice beam combo. Snorlax didn't get much damage from ice beam because of the Thick Fat and high Sp. Defence but Toxic was still great. I'm surprise Red's Snorlax didn't use rest and Red didn't use full restore.

I don't want to fight Red until I start doing really well at the Battle Frontier, so I'm going to be waiting a long time. I get bored of training my Pokemon once they reach level 65 and outrank the wild Pokemon so the exp they gain is so little.

I love and hate the Battle Frontier. Right now, I hate it. If I prepare a team to take on the Battle Tower, I lose to Palmer. If I prepare a team to beat Palmer, I lose trying to get to him. I was doing well at the Battle Factory for a while, but during the 7th match, they'll match you against strong first staged evolutions like Dragonair and Toxicroak while you're still fighting with babies like Shellos and haven't had the chance to change them for better options. Battle Arcade was ace and it was the only Frontier Brain I beat in Platinum, but I haven't touched it since. Battle Castle I never found interesting, and Battle Hall, I stopped liking because if your Pokemon is hit with confusion, you're done for, and my Pokemon ALWAYS hurt themselves in confusion there.

I am having SOOO much trouble Killing Karen('s pokemon. Though, at this point, I want to kill HER). I finally beat her, having two Hyper Potions, and a full restore left.... then I went to walk up to Lance.... and it started the dialogue, so I couldn't save! D:<

My team is:

Typhlosion: level 43
FlameThrower
Fire Blast
Flame Wheel
Blast Burn
(Yes, I know I shouldn't have four fire type moves on it, but it's my first fire type (Yes, my first in 10 years of playing pokemon) and I got a bit carried away)

Ampharos: Level 42
Strength
Discharge
ThunderShock
Thunder

Dragonair: Level 41
Surf
Thunder
Dragon Rage
Dragon Pulse

Gyrados: Level 41
Hydro Pump
Dragon Rage
Ice Fang
Waterfall

Lugia: Level 46
Extrasensory
Fly
Hydro Pump
Aeroblast

Bellossom: Level 51
Solar Beam
Moonlight
Sunny Day
Bullet Seed

Any suggestions? I'm desperate!!

I'd level them up some more and make Typhlosion learn other moves beside fire moves.
I really like this move set for Typhlosion
~ Sunny Day
~ Flamethrower
~ Hidden Power Rock
~ SolarBeam
If you still have the TM for Solar Beam or can get it from Platinum/Diamond/Pearl it's worth it.

I wonder...is there a man/woman in HG/SS that will allow one to remove HM's from a Pokemon? The 'HM Move Deleter' like there was in..I think D/P/Pt?

Funny thing.... After I read this, I went back to fight Karen (so that I could leave) and I was trying to lose.... and I beat her. *shrugs*

Then, my level 41 Gyrados KO'd Lance's level 50 dragonite with one ice fang.... and it went downhill from there. :sadshoe: I called it quits, and I'll try again tomorrow. :garyuu:

I really hate Karen, she has an annoying Houndoom. Luckily I was able to paralyze it with Ampharos, and killed with Feraligatr. When I beated her, I cheered, then I entered Lance's room. Revived my fainted pokemon and ran out of revives and hyper potions, (only 2 full restores and 4 max potions left)
So, at the end, all of my pokemanz fainted except Feraligatr. Poor Charizard, He was such an Hero. Feraligatr saved the day!
