Playing as Giga Bowser for brief moments of time will be awesome. Also, I HATE tier lists, and 'tournyfags'.

We're talking people who refuse to play any matches in SSB:M unless it's on Final Destination, with no items, and with him playing as Marth or Fox.

Fuck that. I just want to have fun, and in casual play, without that SHFFLing and Wavedashing shit, G+W is lethal.

I'm pretty decent with Captain Falcon.

Yeah, I think Captain Falcon's gonna be in the game, judging from the addition of Samurai Goroh.

Assist trophies kinda work the same way as Pokeballs.

My assumed character list for SSBB

The original 12
Mario, Link, Samus, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Pikachu,
Fox, Kirby, Ness, Captain Falcon, Luigi, and Jigglypuff

Most of the new comers from SSBM that were not clones
Bowser, Zelda, Ice Climbers, Marth,
Mewtwo, Peach, and Mr. G&W

The confirmed new people
Pit, Meta Knight, ZSS, Wario, Snake

This is where my list gets to speculation with good reasons behind it

Ganodorf will return but with a new move list, he was originally intended to have a sword as seen in the debug mode version of him and in one of his endings, but I guess they ran out of time and made him a clone. Also with the move towards TP characters and Ganondorf's new powers in that game they could easily make him original.

Ike, he's the main character of FE9 and (arguably) FE10, he's really popular in Japan (far more then Roy). If not Ike then Sothe (being the other arguably main warrior character) but I'm not sure how popular of a character he is in Japan (he was hated in FE9 for sucking and having next to no plot or reason to join).

Sonic, like him or not, he has a great chance, Nintendo already has his lisence for use of his character in Mario and Sonic in the Olympic games coming out this winter, and Mr. Nintendo (Myamoto) said awhile back they were looking to see if they could get Sonic in brawl.

The other 3rd partys with a good chance would be Megaman (alot of his games are on Nintendo, along with almost all of his new games coming out within the next year), Sakurai said they hoped/planned to add "2-3 additional 3rd party characters) after Snake. I can't think of any other big name star who is a big Nintendo character and 3rd party.

So my list has the following characters
Mario, Link, Samus, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Pikachu,
Fox, Kirby, Ness, Captain Falcon, Luigi, Jigglypuff,
Bowser, Zelda, Ice Climbers, Marth, Ganondorf
Mewtwo, Peach, Mr. G&W, Pit, Meta Knight,
ZSS, Wario, Snake, Sonic, Ike, and atleast one more 3rd party (lets just say MM).

That is 28 original characters, the same amount that was in SSBM. They added 8 new original characters in Melee, and if my speculation is correct they are adding 8 original characters and remaking 1 for 9 new characters. That's a nice number of characters

Also lets remove my speculation characters that are "new" like Ike and Sonic, but leave the oldies in there (any originals from SSB/SSBM that are not confirmed yet).

Mario, Link, Samus, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Pikachu,
Fox, Kirby, Ness, Captain Falcon, Luigi, Jigglypuff,
Bowser, Zelda, Ice Climbers, Marth,
Mewtwo, Peach, Mr. G&W, Pit, Meta Knight,
ZSS, Wario, Snake

Thats 23 characters, so I would expect a few more new ones easily, even if they are not my speculated one (I would have NEVER guessed Snake would be in SSB anything).

Lets modify your list just a bit...

We know that Brawl will be playable online, that makes the Ice Climbers questionable. When there's lag, how do you control Nana? She's AI so she can't freeze like standard characters can. And if her instructions are being sent from the player's Wii, then there's nothing that says that someone with some hacking can't have two people one controlling Nana and one Popo.

I really wouldn't be surprised if they're dropped.

Then there's Ness. I read a report that he wasn't supposed to be in Melee, but the delays of Mother 3 set him back to the rooster. I'd stake my bets on Lucas over Ness returning.

And for speculations sake, I'm going to guess that we'll see an Advance Wars character in Brawl.

Here's my speculation on who will be in Brawl:

3rd party: Megeman would be good. He's appeared on many Nintendo consoles, and it wouldn't be too hard to think of a moveset for him. Another good option could be Bomberman. He has also appeared on many Nintendo consoles, and his pyrotechnic tendencies would fit in nicely. I'd also very much like to see Geno from Super Mario RPG, though I doubt he'll be in it. I'd say Sonic is a pretty much a shoe in for a third party character as well.

1st party: Roy is likely out, and replacing him with another Fire Emblem character is likely, probably a character from one of the games released stateside to increase international appeal. There has been some talk of Ike getting that slot, but I'd personally rather see Hector in Brawl. Unfortunately, I have little knowledge of popularity levels of the characters, so I can't make an accurate appraisal of their respective likelihoods. I can also easily see them adding another character or two from the Star Fox universe, most likely Wolf.

If you play as Ganondorf from debug mode, he has no sword. That's another Action Replay cheat entirely that forces him to carry the sword from that ending animation around with him, and even then he plays no differently. The sword is probably just decoration.

It does seem to be quite an interesting stage, though. Not only is it flat, but it has an ogre riding a boar and throwing bombs around, destroying a good amount of the stage. Seems fun to me.

It looks exactly like in the game, just like Delfino Plaza did (except for the floatin platform, but eh). I hope we get a lot more staes like that :)
(Although distorted game levels in SSBM were nice (such as Termina), levels like Hyrule Temple didn't make much sense)

It might seem like a short stage but let's not forget it restores itself after a short while. Plus, you'll be busy doing one of 4 things when the stage does fall apart:

1) Sitting on one side by yourself waiting or prepare to the piece to fall
2) Fight a(n) oppenent(s) who are on the same ledge as you
3) Trying to Jump back on the ledges
4) Falling to Your Death :franny:

Quote:
As far as Wi-Fi play is concerned, Sakurai has confirmed some functionality. However, as stated in the Toukouken on the Japanese version of the Smash Bros. website, "there would be many hurdles to cross," and an online ranking system is unlikely to be implemented.

We can speculate this means we can play online, but they have not outright said "SSBB will have online in the final product", its all "We would like to have online multiplayer and are trying to implement it".

Hate to tell you this, but the very first detail announced about Brawl was that it would be online - you know, before development even started. Also, if you weren't selectively copy-and-pasting from Wikipedia, you would have read the sentence before yours where it says that online functionality has already been confirmed.

You can encounter Giga Bowser in one of two ways:

[*]Complete Adventure Mode on Normal or higher difficulty without using a Continue.
[*]Play Event Match 51: The Showdown.

Yeah I read that line too, but it would not be the first time Nintendo has let us down with false promises, so I'm going to assume its not having online, so I'm not dissapointed if Nintendo drops the ball...again.

I prefer Samus.
Up until Melee's initial release, I never realized how many people didn't play Samus!

While a lot of people usually rely mostly on her weapons, I mostly utilize her standard attacks, using her weapons only to throw my opponent off (their game, not the stage; that's just a perk)

Heck, I've been able to hold my own, even under the terms of many "tournyfags", earning their respect (and the scorn of one, but we both saw it as a cool rivalry, like Goku/Vegeta;)).

Right. Your total time from the start of the mode to finishing off Bowser has to be less than 18 minutes. Only then will Bowser's statue rise up from death and turn into Giga-Bowser.

Anyway, today's update is standard fight combos, though now instead of mashing the button, you can hold it instead for the same effect.

Exciting gameplay, holding a button down so it can do combos for me. Woo.

You do realize that unlike other fighting games, Smash Bros actually doesn't require you to button mash five different "basic attack" buttons. This is just the sensible next step for them to make in the control scheme. Besides, just as with tapping, you have to gauge how long to hold the button down.

Sorry, but I just can't see how this is in any way the 'next step' for a control scheme of a fighting game, unless that game is being marketed solely for people under the age of 12.

Quote:

Tapping =/= holding button down.

Besides, if anything this seems like a design problem originating out of them trying to include every controller in the universe instead of just using the one. I'll be surprised if the strong combos aren't done the exact same way, or in some other extremely simplified manner.

To be honest, I prefer the old control scheme. Just holding the button doesn't make you feel that same amount of adrenaline as rapidly pressing it.

Quit bitching. It's not going to make that much difference. It's only for the basic standstill combo. It doesn't make a difference. People who are used to tapping can still do it. There will be no advantage to holding over tapping.

It's hardly a game breaking thing. I swear, some people are so damn picky.

Just because other people (I included) don't like something that you do doesn't mean we can't discuss it. Right now it's all speculation to begin with, but the fact is I don't particularly like the control scheme much since it seems overly simplified to appease the need of having 4 different control schemes.

Also, like kryptonite said, there is the possibility that those who wish to 'tap' could be at some slight disadvantage--how much or even if there is one remains to be seen.

The question on my mind is whether that comment about hitting the opponent to start the combo means that if you hold the button down, it would only be a single attack unless it connects with something.

If you hold the button and you aren't hitting anyone, you just repeat the same move over and over.

If you tap the button and you aren't hitting anyone, you do a combo sequence.

If you hold the button or tap the button while hitting someone, you also do a combo sequence.

Learn to read, people.

Is there some reason everyone in this thread sounds like an angry butthurt nintenfag every other post?

Cut out the attitude.

Also, if you read the update he doesn't say that holding the button with nothing to hit will cause a rapid-fire first attack--he does say though that hitting the enemy will initiate the combo, OR you can keep hitting the button (like normal) to initiate a combo manually.
