Ah, made it to the Elite 4. Haven't tried fighting them yet, but I'm just wondering if you guys have any tips or suggestions to help me beat them, just in case I fail beating them. Also, my team's getting unbalanced with the types, so if any of you can give me suggestions on which Pokemon to get, that would be helpful too, along with some movesets.

My Team:

Typhlosion Lv.42
- Flamethrower
- Sunny Day
- Solarbeam
- Swift

Ampharos Lv.38
- Discharge
- Thunder Wave
- Thunder Punch
- Tackle

Lugia Lv.46
- Extrasensory
- Fly
- Hydro Pump
- Aeroblast

Kadabra Lv.35
- Psybeam
- Psycho Cut
- Recover
- Reflect

Gyarados Lv.38
- Aqua Tail
- Bite
- Ice Fang
- Surf

Well, I've decided to train up a Growlithe.

Is it a worthy fire type? I've never really used it before, I was more of a Ponyta/Rapidash kind of guy.

Neither have I, though personal experience fighting against them would say that their best stats are Attack and Speed. Fire Fang is probably the best move you can teach them, the other fangs too.

From observation/battle factory:
Extremespeed
Will-O-Wisp
Flare Blitz might be better, but there's recoil, depends. The fang moves aren't very powerful.

Absolutely! Especially when you evolve it into Arcanine, then the shit gets real. It's overall stats are better and it learns Flare Blitz, one of the most powerful Fire-type moves in the game. Combine that with his 110 Base Attack and 95 Base Speed and you've got an in-game demolisher in your arsenal.

I'd really recommend getting everyone in your team to at LEAST Level 40. Ampharos in particular learns Signal Beam at 42, which will be a great help against Will's Psychic team and Karen's Dark team.
Kadabra NEEDS Psychic at Level 40 (see if you can trade him with a friend first though, since Alakazam gets Calm Mind at 36.)
If you're going to depend on Gyrados for beating Lance, get him to 44 for Dragon Dance; use that once and he should be able to sweep his Dragonites with Ice Fang. Alternately, you could have Lugia forget Fly and teach him Ice Beam. Fly isn't very good as a battle move anyway, just teach it to a random Pidgey so you can get where you need to go and switch for the serious battles.

Alright, thank you very much for the advice. I'm sure I'll have Lugia forget Fly, and I'll try to get my Pokemon to at least 40. Yeah, I've been meaning to trade my Kadabra, but I haven't been able to do that recently.

I'm arranging a team to beat Red right now. They're all EV trained, but some need levelling up and their movesets assembled.

Spoiler:
Steelix
-Stealth Rock
-Stone Edge
-Earthquake
-Rock Climb
(It's better to have one unused moveslot than one unused Pokemon slot reserved for an HM slave, especially since RC is the only one needed to get to Red)

Ho-Oh
-Brave Bird
-Sacred Fire
-Sunny Day
-Whirlwind
(Instead of Steelix and Primeape getting KOed by Charizard before landing a Stone Edge, Whirlwind to switch it so it will faint on its second switch to Stealth Rock)

Meganium
-Energy Ball
-Light Screen
-Synthesis
-Aromatherapy
(Could set up Sunny Day for Ho-Oh, but then there'd be no room for Light Screen to shrug off the pesky elemental beams and Blizzards)

Latias
-Dragon Pulse
-Surf
-Recover
-Psychic
(Could replace Psychic with Calm Mind, is it worth it?)

Porygon-Z
-Nasty Plot
-Discharge
-Tri Attack
-Signal Beam

Primeape
-U-Turn
-Cross Chop
-Punishment
-Stone Edge
(Anti-Snorlax)

My strategy is Steelix in first to completely wall off Pikachu. Stealth Rock should work, whether it tries to attack or switches. Charizard will take 50% from Sealth Rock when it switches in to counter Charizard. Switch to Ho-Oh to resist its fire move and Whirlwind it away. Set up Sunny Day next turn to stop 100% Blizzard and pesky hail. Meganium will stall while I use items, Porygon-Z will set up and be effective against Lapras/Venusaur/Blastoise if it can fit in Nasty Plot. Primeape is my pure Snorlax counter and can outrun Lapras to explot its Ice typing, and Latias is just there to clean up any mess by the end.

Im kind of confused abouth the safari zone and its 'upgrades'

My friend said that every 10 days you use the safari zone, then it will upgrade and rarer pokemon will appear...or something like that. She couldnt explain it well enoughfor me to understand, and she caught a Lapras by 'upgrading' the safari zone...im confused, so any help?

Also, what moveset should my FROSLASS have?
Ability: Snowcloak
At the moment it is Hail, Blizzard, Ice beam and destiny bond...but i did like having protect on her moveset.

What are their levels? Because as long as they're in their late 60's, they can easily beat Red with no hassle. That's how I beat him.

Why not give Lugia Reflect? A lot is SE against it, but after that they'll do little damage. And/or Roost. If it's fast enough, Roost will eliminate quite a few SE weaknesses.

Right now, Latias is level 71, Primeape is level 57, Porygon-Z is level 51, Ho-Oh is level 50, Bayleef (holding off until the last moment to evolve it because Bayleef is adorable <3) is 39 and Steelix is 37. Like I said, I've got a lot of levelling up to do. And if Calm Mind really is worth it, I'd better hit the Battle Frontier again.

As for gaining quick BP, if you have plenty of friends who are playing HG/SS as well, connect Pokewalkers and their team will appear in the Trainer House. You can fight each trainer there once a day, and you get 1BP from winning. If you reach the maximum number of people you can connect with, you can earn 10BP there a day. And you get one from each battle, so no worrying about winning 6 matches then getting obliterated by Palmer and getting nothing.

The Wifi Battle Tower is a good, reliable source of BP. If you get to rank 10 you get 10BP per time, I think even rank 1 is 5BP.
Provided you have a team capable of getting through the round of course.
And don't forget you can trade TMs from another game, if you HAVE one and 2 DS's.

Woo yeah, beat Red! I made it through with Primeape at 4HP and Latias which I never touched once throughout the battle. The only one I had to revive was Ho-oh to deal with his Venusaur who was surprisingly fast. My team was all level 70 aside from Latias at 72.

What events open up from here? I'd get the Kanto and Hoenn starter from Oak and Steven, but I don't know which one my friends will pick, I might end up getting the same as them again. Other than that, what else is available after beating Red?

Training up two Pokemon to level 43 was not a smart idea.

Now I have to train up the rest of my Pokemon...

Feraligatr Lv. 41
-Crunch
-Slash
-Surf
-Ice Fang

Pidgeot Lv. 43
-Roost
-Feather Dance
-Wing Attack
-Quick Attack

Growlithe Lv. 20
-Helping Hand
-Flame Wheel
-Leer
-Odor Sleuth

I need to decide on three other Pokemon, any recommendations? It's going to be a while until I acquire the 8th badge, that's for sure.

Ampharos is quite useful, and perhaps if you have an Exp. Share you can get a Kadabra/Alakazam from an Abra.

Yep, that's how.

I'm pretty sure you have red scale, if you fought red Gyarados. I just KNOW you have it, considering how you have the 7th badge. Unless the game got screwed up or something. XD

Btw, you also got an Eevee? If you received it from Bill, you could evolve it into something useful.

I'd recomend training up a dragon type to beat Clair, they can be pretty useful. I myself would recommend gyarados because even though it isn't a dragon type, it can still learn dragon moves. this way you can sweep her pretty easily while you have a non dragon type so their moves are normally effective. Also, You may need a grass type, they can come in handy. And get a physic type, whether it be alakazam or something else.

Feraligatr's Ice Fang can make short work of all of Clair's Pokemon with the exception of Kingdra; Kingdra is in a league of its own.

Kingdra's dual Water/Dragon typing makes it weak to only Dragon, and the Dragon moves you can get on a non-Dragon Pokemon at this stage can be pretty weak. The only non-Dragons that have access to a Dragon type move before moving onto the National Dex and Kanto are Onix/Steelix and Gyarados. The problem is, Dragonbreath/Twister are both weak when unSTAB'd and they're special typed, which Onix and Gyarados are worse off in.

Unless you've raised a Dratini (they're practically everywhere in Johto), then you should not focus on Kingdra's typing weakness. Your best bet is to switch in a Pokemon with an attack/special attack boosting move, like Dragon Dance or Nasty Plot. Use it once or twice, heal if Kingdra takes off too much, then attack with what it doesn't resist. (It resists Fire, Water and Steel, neutral to everything else.) If you don't have a status boosting move, you can go to the Goldenrod Department Store and stock up on X-Attack/X-Special. Just go with whoever has high attack or special attack, and if they're still not strong enough, X-item them. If they get KOed before they get a chance to attack, send in a Pokemon that can take a few hits instead. Give it X items and potions when it needs it. Once you're ready, you can take it down in two hits.

A Lv 41 Feraligatr should be able to brute-force through Clair without much trouble: mine certainly did. Spam Crunch on Kingdra until it faints, spam Ice Fang for everything else, collect free badge hissy fit, experience and cash.
Does we even do these things anymore?

You should hang on to it as long as possible. I always keep a Pokemon with Pokerus in my PC so that I don't lose it. Useful as hell.

Yeah, I already infected a few Pokemon with it to keep in the PC. I can't wait to put this to use. :edgy:

Just beat red. Destiny bond came in VERY useful. I just jacked up my Froslass' speed way high, so she moved first, then destiny bonded Snorlax & Lapras when they were too much trouble. Other than Froslass, Mewtwo and Typhlosion were the backbone of my team.

Also got a Kanto and a Hoenn starter. Squirtle and Treecko, which will be in my second team. My friend is choosing Bulbasaur and Mudkip, and another want Charmander and Torchic so all is fine...

Spoiler: Current team
Typhlosion-Lv.67
Flamethrower
Blast Burn
Eruption
Dig

Froslass-Lv.60
Blizzard
Protect
Ice Beam
Destiny Bond

Ampharos-Lv.62

Murkrow-Lv.56

Night Slash
Dark Pulse
Pursuit

Kingdra-LV.61
Dragon Dance
Draco Meteor
Surf
Waterfall

Sunflora-Lv.60
Razor Leaf
Enegy Ball

Giga Drain

Thats another thing. Which of Sunfloras moves should I substitute for sunny day?

I say Energy Ball. Giga Drain is quite useful with HP recovery...
I say things which can learn Leech Seed should learn it though.
Razor Leaf being physical... what's its att. stat like? If it's hopeless, could be the one to replace...

Definitely replace Razor Leaf. Sunflora's Attack stat is nothing compared to it's Sp. Attack. That move is a waste of slot space.

If you're going to run Sunny Day you should also pack Solarbeam which can be used in one turn in sunlight and trumps every Grass-type attack Sunflora knows, barring Giga Drain. This is also a hint that you should replace Leaf Storm with a move that doesn't shoot your Sp. Attack stat which is what Sunflora absolutely needs if it wants to use Giga Drain and Solarbeam effectively. A support move like Light Screen, Safeguard, or Toxic would be great additions and bolster your team's chance of surviving. You could even replace Giga Drain with Leech Seed so you can sap a nominal amount of HP form your opponent per turn.

Basically, I'd make it's move pool look something like this:

Sunny Day
Solarbeam
Giga Drain/Leech Seed
Light Screen/Toxic/Safeguard

This seems like good advice. And I agree wtith most of you, Razor Leaf isn't used that often. I think I'll use
Sunny Day
Solarbeam
Leech Seed
Toxic
I'm worried about how much sunny day will boost foes fire type moves though. Is it by a lot, or just a small amount?
AAND...Lets post its stats, as some people were asking

Gentle Nature
HP: 180
Atk: 129
Def: 86
Sp. Atk: 141
Sp. Def: 138
Speed: 76
Ability: Chlorophyll
Item: Miracle Seed
