It becomes a Premium account.

I recommend purchasing the full suite of starter packs, they're far and away the most cost-effective items in the store.

Hmm? What do they contain?

I was just thinking about buying a key to open one of them useless crates in my possession.
The premium account boost is just a nice side effect of it since it'll let me craft more and trade...and avoid certain evil F2P mods (though I've not had trouble with them yet).

Ah, I loved this one, very fitting. That reminds me I need to work on my AAI/GK2 related hats again, I've been procrastinating a bit too much. :I

personally I don't recommend the Starter Packs.
Each starter pack contains 2 weapons (except for Scout, he has a critacola + 2 weps) + a hat. These items can't be traded.
You'll end up getting the weapons for free, plus you can trade them.
http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Bundles#Starter_packs

Premium accounts let you trade, have a bigger backpack and let you craft some items that F2P accounts can't
plus, you get the chance to get hat drops. Besides, F2P gamers can't play in every server, some admins simply hate them and use a plugin that filters them.

By opening a crate you can get:
A normal weapon (if the crate number is lower than 18)
A strange weapon (All weapons you get from crates 19-29 are stranges. I suppose that you know of them by now, if you don't, they keep your kill count)
A hat (says which hats on the crate)
Or an Exceedingly Rare Special Item! (which is an unusual hat, these are the most valuable hats in the game)

Here's a link if you want to check what each crate contains

And I know it's kinda selfish to ask but... when you upgrade to premium, could you gift me the professor speks?
Quote:
When a player with a free account upgrades to a premium account by purchasing an item in the Mann Co. Store, they are presented with an option to select, from their Steam friends list or from players on the current server, the name of the person who referred them to (or helped them the most with) Team Fortress 2.

Also I need a little of advice guys.
I have 7.66 refined. I want to buy some things but I have to choose which:
-The Schadenfreude laughing taunt. (7-8 ref)
-The Blighted Beak and then craft the Haunted Headgear (6 ref total)

Both have bad things though:
Finding someone who sells the laugh taunt it's kinda hard, I could only find 2 people and both were overpricing it. (they wanted keys, but if metal, one wanted 9 ref, the other one wanted 10)
The bad thing about the Haunted Headgear is that I can't choose which one I want to craft (I could end up getting the one I don't want and wasting 4 ref). I want the skull, because in combination with the beak,it looks amazing. There are costume contests in some server and the winner gets a hat. I still don't know if they will make more contest after I get these.

Although the above post is accurate, I have to strongly recommend the starter packs nevertheless.

Each pack contains a popular and older hat for each class (which all cost far more than the starter pack on their own which is the primary reason the packs are very cost-effective) as well as two relatively inexpensive weapons that you could also obtain through achievement farming and item drops.

Mainly you're buying the packs for the hats so you don't look like a total scrub. However, the items awarded to you in the starter packs are usually very useful and the kind of item you'd otherwise be spamming achievements to obtain. Whilst it is true that these items cannot be used for crafting nor traded, the fact is you're going to want at least one copy of these weapons to keep for your own use, so this really shouldn't be an issue.

I should note also that achievement items cannot be traded but can be used in crafting, although anything you craft with them also becomes untradable, so you should use achievement items in crafting with care and avoid it when possible.

All 9 starter packs can be obtained for roughly $10, which the game used to sell for. Spot the pattern. :P
Does we even do these things anymore?

Yeah I regret crafting my Direct Hit for something, hopefully I'll get another.
Though I already got a couple of hats to do me though I think the hat market is a little obsessive.

Managed to get a strange chargin targe which is fine as I had a sword I needed the charge benefit from.

Well, the Targe and the Sword are the cheapest strange weapons.
they go from 1 scrap to a rec.

While the key is worth 2.33 ref

Well, this was a nice update. Mostly because you can now use the Reserve Shooter as Pyro, but also because I can finally get rid of some garbage I bought during the Summer Sale (what can I say, everything was like 75% off). Nothing new in terms of weapons though, only a couple of reskins. The new loadout system is pretty damn comfortable.

Oh yeah, and high-five taunts are awesome. Friendship!

Just got done finishing this replacement for the Spy's summer shades. Image
It still needs some tweaking on it's bump map, but nonetheless it's getting there. If anyone wants this early model you can download it here by clicking on the image . :) Please don't hesitate to report any bugs or oddities.

I can never seem to get the presents on the Manor map. The only time one's ever appeared close to me, a scout ran past me and got to it first right before I picked it up.

We're in the same boat. The only time I've even seen one of those presents, a Scout beat me to it.

You gonna submit it to the steam workshop?

I think edgey's cravat for the spy would be cool.

I'm not sure if I even can, given the fact that it's directly based of Capcom's design. You know copyright stuff. Though it's funny you mention the cravat, a good friend of mine is working on something like that. Since he's got Edgey covered, and I've already done 2 Kay related items I think I'm going to do Gumshoe next to complete the main AAI trio.

I unlocked the M. Bison cap for Soldier, Heavy and Medic. :3 From now on I'll shout "yes! YES!" every time I dominate an opponent.
