Metal Slug 1 - This is what started it all. Shoot and have Fun! :D Shame 1P has to be Marco and 2P has to be Tarma. I almost beat this one without dying.
Metal Slug 2 - My personal favourite. Minus some slowdown when lot's of enemies appear, a lot more fun than it's sequel. Plus the first appearance of Fio and Eri. ^^ Also you can select your character.
Metal Slug X - Same game, new game engine (no slow down what so ever) but a lot harder with more weapons and enemies.
Metal Slug 3 - Considered the best one out of the series, has a variety of paths to take, more enemies, weapons and challenging. And being a Zombie is so cool! I prefer Metal Slug 2/X but 3 is still fun.
Metal Slug 4 - SNK Died, series starts to suck from now on. This version had a kickass sound track and had some neat ideas like the Slug Bike but too much stuff was reused like backgrounds. Plus they over did the balance making it too hard. Oh, and Tarma and Eri are replaced (well not playable) with Nadia and Trevor which have two tiny bugs when playing with them.
Metal Slug 5 - Same formula used, just different enemies. The sound track was pretty decent but the whole game play got boring and it's hard to explain why. Plus the bosses were plain fucking hard. At least Tarma and Eri become playable characters again. PLUS THE ENDING IS SO LAME!
Metal Slug 6 - I like the fact you can hold two weapons but it had too pointless SNK fighter characters, Clark and Ralph added, the backgrounds were too detailed making the characters look out of place and the game was TOO BLOODY HARD! You just DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE! The sound effects are also worse and make too much noise. I can't even complete easy mode on the Wii collection which is just makes this game suck really hard.

I agree with 3 being really challenging, but I tried 6 for the first time on easy mode, to see how it went, it starts you off with 16 credits (3 lives per cred, you die when hit twice on easy) and I beat it with 11 credit left.
I also, liked the detail in 6.
I can't wait for 7 on the ds :D

oh and the reason that 4 was poor was that there was a new development team, so instead of creating everything from scratch they just reused everything, and that they seemed to put the player into situations where you cannot live and is impossible to survive, unlike the earlier ones, where it would be just about possible to survive.

It did have a new sound track created by a different company which kicked ass! And as I mentioned before, there were some new ideas like turning into a Monkey. :D

The problem with the detail in 6 was like... er... if they took Super Mario Bros for the NES, updated the background to SNES standard but left the sprites alone. It just looked a bit strange in Metal Slug 6.

I remember playing 1 and 2/X when I was little. Good stuff.
3 was the most challenging. Seeing as how it was the last Arcade MS game they were to make, they wanted it to be magnifiscent. They succeeded in that.
Yeah, 4 was pretty terrible. I was very upset beating it the first time. Nothing but recycled sprites and bad level design.
5 wasn't THAT bad. I mean, at least they made plenty of sprites and animation themselves. Also, the enemies looked like actual terrorists this time, not the US military stereotype, which I will admit is kind of messed up in the first place. Also, they were better at attacking (Best example is their knife attack). Too bad we probably won't ever see them again.
6 was pretty great. Though I'm not a fan of prequels at all, it explained why the aliens won't attack us ever again. Cool new features that were proven useful, and I LOVED the fact that they threw in Team Ikari. That was pretty awesome.
I'm looking forward to 7 but I'm upset that it's not going to be for Arcades. Then again, Contra 4 was pretty awesome so I have pretty high hopes for this upcoming MS game.

It was made in japan so most of the menu is in japanese but the game was awesome but the accursed Metal Gorrila first boss always kills me....And Now I can't find the link to it... Oh yeah...The person who made it has new characters. I didn't see any of the old ones...
