I'm liking it way better than Portrait of Ruin.

And I'm kinda glad they ditched the generic anime art. I'm assuming it's the same artist from Symphony?

Wow, new Castlevania? I didn't think it was supposed to be out for a while yet. Is it on DS or Wii? What's the gameplay like? Is it still metroid-esque?

How about the art and soundtrack (I mean, it's Castlevania, so the soundtrack has gotta be pretty good, but...)

Whoa, this has just suddenly came out. I love the GBA/DS Castlevania games, so I'll almost definitely pick this up.

What new features does this game exactly have? Im sure I read something about more Wi-Fi features?

To answer the last few posts...

The art is gorgeous. The portraits look great and the environments detailed. Like I said before, they ditched the anime look and went back to more... mature-looking art, for a lack of a better term. I believe they brought back the artist who did Symphony.
The soundtrack? It's Castlevania; they have a rep to maintain... best soundtrack of the ds games, I think. a good chunk of VO, both in english and japanese.
The gameplay is very much like the others: Metroidvania, Castleroid, Metriodesque... call it whatever. However, there's an area map, so you're not just roaming around Castlevania, but you jump to different areas as well, including a village where you quest/buy stuff/whatever. I'm digging the new glyph system: you can equip a weapon or spell glyph on each arm ( X and Y button). Attacks from either arm uses up mana, which refills over a short period of time. Hearts are still in the game, but they get used up by using special attacks, which vary depending on the two glyphs on your arms. I dunno if you can understand that but... bleh.
I haven't really messed around with the wireless features yet; all I found there were a "Shop" and "Race" mode. Both can be done over WFC and DS-to-DS.

Ugh, i felt like i wrote a review

Same here. I think the only Castlevania game I've spent more than 20 minutes on was Circle of the Moon.
But I am getting this game because Shanoa is hot.

EDIT: Also, new perspective, not restricted to castle, etc etc.

Sounds the same as the other Portable Castlevania games with a few new features... Which is a perfectly good thing. I don't know how Konami do it, but every game just feels so fresh and new, even though you've played a pretty much identical game before, I still really enjoy each and new game. Can't wait to get this, thanks for the info Citrus.

I was playing this in a friend's car when Justin Timberlake was on her radio. Shanoa's bringing sexy back (yeah)...

*gets shot*

Oh and another thing: for all the completionists out there, say goodbye to your life. On top of completing the enemy/drop lists, the game awards medals for killing each boss without ever taking damage. I've managed to take out the seven bosses I've encountered so far doing that. Ugh, I'm such a dork

I just took a look at the Megaman 9 achievements page, today. You want to talk about hardcore... whew. There are some plain crazy ones like "Beat the game without taking damage" and "Beat the game 5 times in one day".

Megaman 9 is NINTENDO HARD

Anyway I finally got to the big "turning point in the plot" part.

Guh, as fun as the first half was, I wish they didn't save all the cool glyphs until now.

Edit: Oh, and if anyone that happens to need any quest items

You could always import. GF saids January 2009 EU.

For the Glyph with the wind I have no idea. I keep seeing get a close to the edge on the right as you can and hold up before landing(I still can't get it). I think the tower ring supposed to help but the description is a lie.

read the new ones, HAR HAR.

Use the Magnes glyph to toss yourself to the right side of the platform; not too hard though, you'll just get flung off.
Hold the up button as soon as you let go of R. It's all a matter of trial and error. It took be quite a few tries to get it.

Woot for 100% Glyphs and Beastiary but missing a few mob drops. I'm only 82.18% on items, :(

As for the last jewel... it's a drop from either the Hall or Cavern... or both.. guh

I finished Great Cavern and Training Hall. Need to do a few more runs to finish the item list... and find a few more drops...

Boss Rush Mode ... I've yet to do

So that is the way! I must suck at it then...

Boss Rush, The Dragon Face, Is the first batch of bosses and is easy if you got the right glyphs prepared before you go in. So Far I got the Rapier and Sword Helm. The both increase the glyph union of said glyph. Decent stats too. I have yet to achieve the super fast time I want though...The second batch of bosses is the skull....And probably has dracula as the final one...

Same "Metroid", different "-Vania".
Unless you get some outside help on this one, you're gonna be dying.
A LOT (not as much as MM9, but still).
This isn't really the hardest CV game (could've been if not for the map system and the life-saving Magical Tickets), but it does throw a lot of twists for even the most seasoned CV player.
If you've never played the previous CV DS games, don't worry; Ecclesia takes place before any of 'em. Besides, Ecclesia's intro pretty much covers everything you need to know.
If you do want to get a better feel for the story, you could check out SotN and Aria of Sorrow.

Spoiler: Props to Ecclesia
-An overly fresh enemy roster, or at least a new batch of sprites, with only a few returning from SotN and I believe one from PoR (Axe Armor?).
-The Glyph System was the improvement needed for the series.
-Well, she isn't Sonia Belmont, but it's nice to see a female lead character in the series (face it; previous characters had to share the spotlight with the other playable characters).
-Personally, I see the new artwork as a mix between the mature, SotN-era art style and anime-esque style used in CV titles prior to Ecclesia, and it works out quite well.
-The story was really nice. The exchange between Shanoa and Dracula was my favorite.

Spoiler: Something New About Dracula? *possible spoilers*
-This time around, Dracula actually wised up a bit during his fight. (Could this be his "full power"?)
-This is possibly the first Dracula battle (since CV1?) where he DOESN'T transform into ANYTHING. At the very least, his skull was exposed in earlier games....if he didn't turn into some monster, that is.
-Kinda caught me off guard when he STARTED TO WALK. The hell?!
-And, of course, the "finale". ;)

You can probably guarentee there is some area full with moving gears/cogs, filled with tons of spikes and flying medusa heads. You know, the Clock Tower area. As much as they frustrate me, I swear they're in ALL of the portable games... Please tell me there IS an area like that in Order of Eccelsia!?

Yes, along with the other well-known CV locales:
-the Library
-the Caverns
-the Clock Tower (already covered that; guess who's the boss for that area ;))
-the Throne Room (IMO, Dracula's Throne Room in Ecclesia is the most impressive to date!)

I could've mentioned more (like the village, the church, etc.), but these "hot spots" have appeared in the majority of the games, especially in post-SotN games.

Summoning 6 Medusa Heads to circle you was pretty pimp. The whole petrify part was major bonus. The angel wing glyph was pretty pimp, too.

*Raises Hand* So here's this Giant Enemy Crab.

Also, the game is pretty good, although I liked PofR more than most people did. I don't know if I like this one better or not. I will say the voice acting was certaintly better in PofR. Vincent actually sounded good, but the shop keeper in this game is laughable.

"You do not have enough to pay for that."

He says that in a way that makes me laugh my ass off. Then there's mr...

"Yo, there you are!"

Who sounds like he's drunk when he talks. Then we get into the reef, where you enchounter an enemy called Saint Elmo, who makes these really really annoying moaning sounds.

"Aaaaaaaaah! AAAAAAAAAAH!!!"

Then we save the Chef from the tower in the prison. He probably has the worst voice in the game. He kinda sounds like Barney the Dinosaur if you ask me. His voice isn't even laughably bad, it's just plain retarded.

"Cooking is all about heart. Just kidding, uh huh."

Oh shut up, you are so annoying. Finally, my last gripe with the voice acting is the Curse Divas.

"Where are you, my beloved."

Considering the fact they were just edits of the Banshees, the voice didn't really fit them at all. When they die, there animation is the same as the Banshee's. Now, if it died by throwing it's arms down and their hair over their face, like die the reverse of how they made intro, it might have fit, but for how they did it, it does not fit.

The game itself is still pretty good though. I liked the sound better in PofR though, too. I like the gameplay of OofE better, though. And they have cooler enemies like Miss Murder. Sorry if I sounded kind of mad, that's just how bad I thought the voice acting was.

Oh yeah, one more thing. In the monestary, there is a Glyph protected by falling puzzle blocks. I can't seem to destroy the blocks fast enough to get the Glyph. How do you get it?

After awhile of destroying the blocks, they will stop falling, if you destroy all of them and they stop falling, a chest appears with the Justice Ring. Maybe use the Nisecto (beam skeleton) or any glyph with range. The glyph is Cubus:
Cubus:
Drops and stacks blocks, up to 8 can be stacked if equipted in both arms
Stone Damage
Can Stone Enemies
No glyph Unions
Very Weak.

Justice Ring :odoroki: "I have a ring named after me!"
Power increases as the number of enemies you kill increases

For the tower:
Use magnes to shoot yourself to the end of the platform, then absorb.
The tower ring functions as the hercules ring from POR, it stops you from being knocked back, so it's description is more like a mistranslation, like the ordinary rock (Supposed to be the stone of flight or jumping stone, the gold ring [same mistranslation as POR, doesn't increase luck based on money, increase money found]). Most likley, this game wasn't translated very well. And, for the Death ring, hits always kill you. It was mistranslated, then worded to seem that Shanoa's attacks could auto kill her opponents.
A lot of people don't know that there is a glyph hidden in the training hall.... Also: if anyone needs help with the game, I can help out, just PM me.

I liked POR better, (maybe it was because of the two characters) but OoE is a MUST for any Castlevania fan, it is a great game, and it is one of the most played games that I own. (22 hours of playtime!)

I haven't played Dawn of Sorrow, But there are two creatures besides Axe Armor that I've enchountered SO FAR that were in both PofR and OofE: The invisible man and Forneus. I don't know if they were in DofS or not, though. I'm pretty sure Frankenstien's creation was taken from Dawn of Sorrow.

Edit: No it wasn't, but there was an enemy tooken from DofS called Bugbear. Bugbears are NORMALLY supposed to be like big huge Kobald/Gnoll like characters. Bugbear, CastleVania Style, is a souped up Peeping Eye.

I disliked bugbears in DOS, it was a pain in the *** to get him to drop his soul for the 100% completion rate. BTW if an enemy that drops an item liek a peeping eye goes off screen, and you kill it, and it drops its item, where does it go?
