We've all seen at least one video game movie in our lives, and we know some are not so good (Super Mario Bros and Street Fighter), but with a new one coming out next year, i.e, Tekken, do you think it'll be any good?

And if anyone has any screenshots, post them as well :maya:

I'm kind of holding out for the new Street Fighter movie. I think it has some of the best chances of not sucking that a video game movie has had in a long time.

Also, if David Hayter gets to write the Metal Gear Solid movie Sony's working on right now, there's no doubt in my mind that movie won't be great.

I like the Super Mario Bros. movie. It's under-appreciated, in my opinion. Besides, try setting it side-by-side with [insert Uwe Boll movie here]! Which would you rather watch? ^_^ Oh well, to each his own.

...Wait, there's a Tekken movie coming out?! Where the hell have I been?

According to sources, a former WWE Superstar will be playing one of the roles in the new Tekken movie.

... ouch.

And the superstar's name isn't that important, since I doubt anyone would recognize him, but it's "Nathan Jones".

haha, Nathan Jones? If he's playing Marduk, then that's a serious miscast. It's retarded how they never thought about Goldberg..

Well, according to Wikipedia, they state the following:

Wikipedia wrote:
In 2007, Jones was billed to be playing video game character Craig Marduk in the upcoming movie Tekken, however confirmation of this has yet to happen. Ironically, the character of Craig Marduk is Australian and, although appears as a typically large PRIDE/MMA fighter, his look and characteristics are based on Jones.

Sounds like they were looking for the best fit... Personally? I hope Jones gets it, because then I can laugh at him as a Video Game fan, AND a Wrestling Fan! Heh...

Agreed. :keiko:

The Silent Hill and The Resident Evil movie were pretty good even if they weren't the most based around the games they come from storylines.

Also, Dōbutsu no Mori (Animal Crossing: The Movie) was enjoyable to the fans of the series. It's hard to believe they could have made a movie about a game that has next to no storylinr. But it's a shame it'll never get an outside of japan releases. Thankfully, it's been fansubbed and very well subbed at that.

As RandomDCE said, in regards to a reply he made in his Street Fighter: The Movie Review in regards to the common question of "Why don't video game movies work?"...

RandomDCE, in his review, wrote:
Well, the simple answer to that question is, "Because the directors don't know their source material, or like to alter it, in the case of cinematic license".

That IS true... Taking the Mario Bros. movie into consideration, if they called it something ELSE, and didn't use the Mario license, it would have been given a lot more positive ratings, methinks...

But the Giant-Bodied, Small-Headed Goombas... those things scared and confused me when I watched the movie as a kid... If they ever make a Phoenix Wright movie, I better see at least three names of people from CR, or Capcom, on the "Credits" list, so then at least we can tell that they actually had knowledge of what they were making... And if it looks like it's gonna suck, just rename it something like "Defenders of Law" or something like that.

That does seem to be pretty true actually. I actually had that thought when I first had saw the SMB movie. Most of the time, game based movies only are usually used to pull in the fans for almost automatic profit. and Of course, bad movies are still always are gonna be if regardless if they game based or not.

Also, I think Defenders of law is taken already.

I'd just like to ask one simple question...

How the hell could they not have known Super Mario Bros.!? Damn, almost every single child and their parent knew about this game when it came out. It was one of the biggest sellers ever, it was a staple classic... was it just not as popular with people in Hollywood or something?

As for video game movies in general, here's my favorite one ever:

Been waiting for Sands of Time for a long time now, and still waiting.
The game is amazing, so beautiful and so good. So much for them to work with.
But I know the movie will be really bad, because I've read the 2006 version of the movie script. Sure, it's been changed since but that was still awful, seriously. Can't get more cliché.
Extremely amusing though. Gave me a good laugh.
And here I was, thinking that it could actually be decent when Jordan Mechner himself would be a screenwriter.
Silly me.

But I'm still going to see it. And I could always wish that I'm wrong.

MGS could be interesting too. But then again, I could just watch Escape From New York and I would have my Snake right there. Not exactly the same thing, but close enough for me.

*cough* global-studios/movies-based-video-games-t4690.html?hilit=Video%20game%20movies *cough*

Anyways- Movies based on Videogames are only done good when they keep the plot right unlike movies like Super Mario Bros. where Mario is attacked by Old Ladies with Tazers and Luigi is sliding down a slide with a bunch of women on a Matress while two Goobas (Who look almost nothing like goombas.) Slide down also on matresses trying to kill them. As for the Worst Video Game adaption- It's probably Double Dragon, and for the best- Mortal Kombat.

Also, Uwe Boll is the second worst Director of all time, IMO. (M. Night is the worst)

Apparently, according to ONM (offical nintendo magazine, anyone in the UK should be able to get a copy from local newsagents), the guy who made a Jackie Chan film is considering making a Guitar Hero film...

The ending quote of the article is 'stick to making Jackie Chan films'

If they do make a Zelda film, I'd prefer it to be done by Studio Ghibli, rather than it being a live action film. I'm not to fond of liuve action films, and Studio Ghibli does some fantastic films, like Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away

The only way I see it working is if:
1) It's set between Sons of Liberty and Guns Of The Patriots.
2) It's done in CGI with the original voice actors filling in.
3) David Hayter to work on it.

All of the three above in this movie will be awesome, and I shall see it.

Oh god, are you serious a Tekken Movie? Lord let's hope it doesn't fail. In my own opinion video games weren't meant to be on th ebig screen really and I wish Hollywood would leave them alone. RE, Silent Hill, Max Payne...

I don't think I recall Max Payne ever having vampires in it...e_e;

I haven't seen it yet and doubt I ever will. Also, I probably prefer Mortal Kombat to Street Fighter and the Super Mario Bros Movie (Sorry, but it was horrible. When you're younger it seemed awesome. D:)

And now a DRAGONBALL movie is coming out....are you shitting me? -Face palm- Not a game, but...ugh.

Holy fuck. They're making a Tekken movie?!

The anime movie wasn't bad (Albeit it took certain liberties with the story) but it was pretty cool.

But a live-action film? It just screams "SUCKFEST". According to Wiki, they're not even going to include King or Paul! What the fuck?

On another note, they're makign an MGS movie. Allegedly, Christian Bale is supposed to play Snake. Now, I love Bale and I love MGS, but I don't want Bale to be Snake. At all.

The fan-made movie, Metal Gear Solid: Philanthropy looks really good though.

I felt that the animated movie was done really well. Sure, it was riddled with plot holes, but it wasn't a bad movie. But now Hworang, King, or Paul?! The live action movie is going to tank. But since i'm devoted to Tekken, I'll go see it >__<

I'm really against a Metal Gear Solid movie coming out though. I mean, MGS is my favorite series and it seems that the video game to movie transition is very seldom done well. I just don't think a movie can capture the awesome that is MGS.
