Hopefully everyone knows the Rayman series. But who thinks it'schanged a bit too much?
The old Rayman was a adventure game; which I think was very good. But then they introduced Rayman raving rabbids. I find those games quite fun too (I've just ordered rayman raving rabbids tv party) but those aren't like the first Rayman games.
Which is better? The old Rayman or the new rayman raving rabbids? And who wants old rayman back?

I miss old Rayman :sadshoe: Rabbids are such a disappointment, I was hopin I'd get to beat the crap outta them but instead I'm just being asked to boogie, I miss the old days especially 2 and 3 when he was smashing Pirates Hoodlums.

The first three Rayman games were good, then Rayman Arena came out and it sucked. If anything Raving Rabbids saved Rayman. Honestly, it's obvious they are slowly trying to write him out of the Rabbid games anyways so soon I am expecting Rabbids will be given their own series and Rayman will be given his own series again. The first one you only played sas Rayman. The second you played as Rabbids and Rayman. The third you only played as the Rabbids. By now, Raving Rabbids will probably be it's own franchise soon. Then Rayman will be backk to platforming.

I love the raving rabbids, but the old Rayman games were also made of win. Both "series" are fun to play and really enjoyable - Heck, Rayman 2 was one of my favorite games when I was younger and it's still to this day. The art style and gameplay is awesome.

The first Rayman was really the first video game I bought, I got it for the PC. It was brilliant.
Rayman 2 was amazing... I still love that game.
Rayman 3 was great as well, it went in a silly direction which I liked. The gameplay felt a little... er... odd at times, though.
Raving Rabbids? I hate that game. Shitty mini-game collection. Never played the other Rabbids games.
Oh and Wocky... Rayman Arena came out before 3.

I hope to see it return to being a platformer. It feels like they've stripped the Rayman series of it's dignity turning into mini-game things.

I'm probably younger than most of you, so I shouldn't be so ashamed about not remembering which Rayman I played. A side-scroller. Had these... little fairy things? I forget. It was fun, though.

I love Raving Rabbids too, but I consider them another series.

But if the kill off rayman then there will be no story/ point in the Raving Rabbids e.g in Rayman raving rabbids 2 Rabbids took over the world so rayman like dressed up as a rabbid and joined in their game; no attempt to save the people of earth anyway without Rayman, I don't think raving rabbids would live. (Who would buy a game called Raving Rabbids?)

But I think the original game was raving rabbids and they used Rayman to promote it...

When will Rayman finally return to platforming, I thought after Rayman raving rabbids 2 they would of stopped but TV party came out... Hopefully they won't make Rayman Raving Rabbids 4 :beef:

I liked the old Rayman. Rayman 1, 2 and 3 were awesome (especially 2) but these Rabbids suck! :edgeworth:. It's all mini-games. I want adventure, I want to beat the crap outta Pirates. I WANT THE OLD RAYMAN BACK!!! :beef:

The 1st Rayman was one of the first PS games I remember playing. I loved this game :edgy:
But, even though 2 & 3 were OK, the invasion of the Rabbids has just ruined it for me. :sadshoe:

it's a shame they decided on the Rabbids game being a mini-game collection really, it looked a lot better in it's earlier stages as a platformer (although it seemed to have too much of an emphasis on combat)

Just a question, I never got RRR1 so I wanted to know if anyone knows how the rabbids were introduced/ become part of the game. Can someone tell me??? Because I would love to know how on earth those rabbid things got into the same game as Rayman?

They were always there I think, just not angry, one day they up and invaded and captured everything throwing Rayman into an arena to play for survival. It sucks really :sadshoe:

Though was it really due to be a platformer originally? And combat heavy isn't bad.

Yup, I'm pretty certain of it... I remember awaiting the game when it was still planned as a platformer. But then the developers got the Wii development kits and went like say "OH FUCK THAT WE MAKE MINI-GAMES BECAUSE OF MOVEMENT CONTROLLER" and it was totally turned into a mini-game thing. D:

That's Ubisuck for you. Take away the creative duties from the guy who CREATED Rayman (no less), and decide to make a cash-in minigame collection. Like said before, here's hoping they take the Raving Rabbids theme on their own track and return Rayman to capable hands. I want a proper Rayman 4!

And this topic makes me want to pull out my old N64 and replay Rayman 2. Ah, the days of my youth... :grossburg:

Also, it's a crying shame I lost my copy of Rayman Advance (GBA). If only I could find another way of replaying the original.

Assassins Creed, Prince of Persia, Tom Clancy, Beyond Good & Evil.

Ubisoft sure does suck.

Nintendo gave them developmental packs, and due to circumstances (Most likely the controls) they felt the game wouldn't fit on the Wii. So, they decided to make it into a new game.

By now, I thing the name 'Rabbid' is more popular than 'Rayman'

Here's what Raving Rabbids 4 would be about- they play with a Space shuttle and all get trapped in a Rocket where they play minigames in the Rocket to keep themselves from getting Bored- at the end they are sent to another planet where they all fight over who rules the planet, to which they play minigames to find out who wins in the sequel and by the sixth the rest of the series will be about them having the Rabbids jumping from every Planet other than Rayman's to take it over. There we go, no more Rabbids and Rayman becomes a platform again. Hopefully stuff like that will happen.

I'd be more satisfied if they continued the ending of Raving Rabbids one and had Rayman go back to exterminate the rabbits and save the remaining critters.

@ Anthony: :yuusaku: I don't actually HATE the rabbids but I'm kind of annoyed with them because now Rayman games are just a bunch of minigames... :yuusaku: and I kind of prefered Rayman as a platformer game. What I'd really like would be for Rayman to return platforming

@ Herr Bondie - I don't get the story of the raving rabbids games. e.g in rrr2 rabbids take over the world and in the opening you see him disguise himself as a rabbid but then for some reason all he does is play games with them... there is no ending. Btw what happened at the end of RRR1

@ wannabe4chanmod - I liked Globox but I think they've killed of practically every character from all the platform Rayman games, now there are just 2 characters, Rayman and the rabbids.... :sadshoe: and in the RRR3 you don't even get to play as Rayman...

I don't think the others are dead thats a bit much, I liked the funky music, pole sliding scenes in Hoodlum Havoc also some of the bosses were highly amusing.

Also Globox was awesome, he had a rain dance and that level where you had to save his kids in the evil fortress was one of my favourites. Coincidentally the land of the dead freaked me out :sadshoe:

Not a diehard fan of either, cause I've really only played Rayman 1. ...But I liked it alot. It was hard, but very whimsical and addicting. I especially enjoy the part when you beat a level and Rayman goes "YEAH!" That always made me smile. There was alot of variety in the stage design, too. Every level offers something different, which is good.

I loved playing Rayman 1. It took AGES to complete but I did it in the end :keiko: I got it on the ps1. Which I can still play on the ps2 but not the ps3... (I think.. my brother said something about the ps3 not being able to play ps2 games so what are the chances it is going to play a ps1 game)

I only played the first Rayman on the PS1, and I thought it was really hard. I never got past the second music level.

I had to cheat to check out all the different levels (which all look spectacular), and I still couldn't get onto the last one, because you needed to break ALL the cages! Some of them are so hard to find and even harder to reach!

Then again, I was 8 when I played it, and I sucked at games back then. If I could find the disc I'd definitely try it again.

I had worse, I held my action figures up against the TV screen and pretended they were part of whatever film was on.

So you're telling me that Ubisoft was incapable of seeing the Wii handle a bona fide action/platformer game (you know, like Super Mario Galaxy), so they had to transform it into a minigame collection? That is so sad of them. (Never you mind that Michel Ancel has expressed his disappointment in the game's transformation.)

And if they didn't suck, we wouldn't have to wait for the sequel to Beyond Good and Evil to be confirmed until NOW (specifically, this holiday season). And before you say "but BG&E didn't sell" notice that Ubi did 2 huge mistakes for this:

1) They released it on the 2003 holiday season, an incredibly saturated time in gaming. Ubi themselves released no less than 4 games across all platforms that season.

2) They gave little promotion to the game. I NEVER saw a TV ad, only a few print ads, and all I knew of the game prior to buying it was from reviews, something that joe-shmo wouldn't know about. (this also affected at least one other Ubi title released then -XIII- which is pretty much a dead IP now.)

Prince of Persia was a goof, since it almost fell under the same pressure BG&E and XIII did, but I'm hearing some hard complaints about the newest game, and you know full well Tom Clancy stuff will sell, even if Ubi screws us over. Heck, where's Splinter Cell: Conviction?

...

But I'm derailing the topic... badly. Let's go back to Rayman.

So I did pull Rayman 2 from my old N64 collection. Beautiful, just like I remember. It's a bit sad, too, since my nephews go around playing Raving Rabbids 2 without knowing who the hell Rayman is... Perhaps I should give them a chance to play, even if my N64 controller is a bit busted up.

Next goal... find Rayman 3. I heard it's not as good as Rayman 2, though. What say you, CR buddies?

We should try to find the door on a DS (or DS Lite or DSi) to let out Phoenix and Edgeworth!

I loved Rayman 3 Hoodlum Havoc just so ya know Ninkobra.
It has an awesome theme by Groove Armada.

Fist powerups that were in the original rayman have returned and you can get cool effects added to your punches by utilising them, graphics are improved, the cast is still there, its not as depressing as The Great Escape because the world isn't dieing. It has funny and novelty characters and bosses (The hunter-dude's fight is brilliant I thought) and I especially like when he has to go fight the seemingly invulnerable warrior race, at least the boss is an interesting fight there.

Though having a main villian called Andre isn't too threatening :edgy:

You thought you could be safe in your courts, with your laws and attorneys to protect you. In this world only I am law, my word is fact, my power is absolute.

I said I THINK it had to do with the controls. All they said was after Nintendo gave them their development packs- they decided to instead go for a spin-off series.

Quote:
And if they didn't suck, we wouldn't have to wait for the sequel to Beyond Good and Evil to be confirmed until NOW (specifically, this holiday season). And before you say "but BG&E didn't sell" notice that Ubi did 2 huge mistakes for this:

1) They released it on the 2003 holiday season, an incredibly saturated time in gaming. Ubi themselves released no less than 4 games across all platforms that season.

Did I even mention how it sold? Honestly, I didn't even get the game till 2005- I found it no more than just an interesting game. I do agree though, Ubisoft were idiots thinking that if they shove The Sands of Time, Splinter Cell and BG&E around the same time and expect all to sell well.

Quote:
2) They gave little promotion to the game. I NEVER saw a TV ad, only a few print ads, and all I knew of the game prior to buying it was from reviews, something that joe-shmo wouldn't know about. (this also affected at least one other Ubi title released then -XIII- which is pretty much a dead IP now.)

Agreed on this also. The only time I heard about it was from Nintendo Power, and they were too busy showcasing everything else for me to care enough.

Quote:
Prince of Persia was a goof, since it almost fell under the same pressure BG&E and XIII did, but I'm hearing some hard complaints about the newest game,

Honestly, I saw alot more advertising for POP then XIII or BG&E at the time. Another thing that might of helped it is because as opposed to XIII and BG&E which no one had ever really heard of, they took to Prince of Persia because it rebooted a game series which was actually popular on computers for it's graphics. As for the newest game, I like it, but it's more of a game for the people who perfer exploring in games.

and you know full well Tom Clancy stuff will sell, even if Ubi screws us over. Heck, where's Splinter Cell: Conviction?

But I'm derailing the topic... badly. Let's go back to Rayman.

So I did pull Rayman 2 from my old N64 collection. Beautiful, just like I remember. It's a bit sad, too, since my nephews go around playing Raving Rabbids 2 without knowing who the hell Rayman is... Perhaps I should give them a chance to play, even if my N64 controller is a bit busted up.

Next goal... find Rayman 3. I heard it's not as good as Rayman 2, though. What say you, CR buddies?

Have you tried looking at Raving Rabbids as a party game rather than a Rayman game? If it was just called 'Raving Rabbids', you wouldn't even really care. I don't care for Raving Rabbids themselves, but I'll admit that I think the actual game is ocassionally fun as a party game rather than a Rayman game. Not like it matters because it's obvious they are working Rayman out of the Raving Rabbids games, I think if anything soon they will make Rayman 4 and Raving Rabbids 4 as two diffrent titles.

And yeah, Rayman 3 was good, got a bit dry after about halfway- I still would reccomend it.

But don't get Arena, It's terrible.

I really hope they DO make a true Rayman 4. It could have great potential. Rayman 2 was very good, Rayman 3 was pretty good as well. I loved both games a lot.

I still think the original Rayman is one of the best 2D platformers made. Maybe it didn't affect platforming games that much or have innovation, but I think of it as the perfect 2D platformer.

Some people call Rayman Raving Rabbids 1, rayman 4 :eh?: but I don't know if it counts ( :yuusaku: considering it's not actually a proper rayman game) but that would mean that if Ubisoft did make a new ayman platform game it would be called rayman7????
on youtube I found a trailer for rayman 4 - does it mean raving rabbids?? because the begining where Rayman is beating up rabbids isn't part of the RRR1 game so??? I don't know... I don't have RRR1
here's the link so someone can explain it to me... :eh?:
