'Kay, I just heard about the fact that Bayonetta 2 is coming to the Wii-U, as an exclusive to that particular console. Now, I'm not a Bayonetta fan by any stretch of the imagination. I've not played the first, nor do I understand the absolute rage that the stupid Bayonetta fanboys are spouting. And yes, they are stupid. For several reasons. I've done my research, and it seems that -

1. The development for Bayonetta 2 was halted indefinitely.
2. Nintendo, seeing an opportunity that neither Sony, Microsoft or PlatinumGames (the developer) wanted, chose to revive Bayonetta 2.
3. They chose to publish it and make it an exclusive.

So, from what it seems, Bayonetta 2 only even exists because Nintendo had the courage to pick up the pieces that the others had left in the dust. What annoys me is the outright derpy fanboys that shout and scream that "this is a betrayal of the fans", "a slap in the face", "trolling us".

The facts boil down to this. Bayonetta 2 either wouldn't exist, or would be on the Wii-U, alongside many other great games. So, yeah. Take your pick :maggey-sad:

It's a game I've never heard of before yesterday, in a genre I have no particular affiliation for. Yet I know fans are idiots. It's not that the game is on the Wii U, it's that they don't already own the Wii U. (See the topic on AAI2's possible localization and iOS for more of that kind of hypocrisy.) Though I must admit, I own both a 3DS and an iPhone so I'm more or less covered as far as a possible localization goes. But say, the game was a Vita, Android, or xBox 8 exclusive, I might be a bit cranky, so I'm likely a hypocrite myself. Just a rationally thinking hypocrite.

Yeah I see the parallel we have here with potential shifting to iOS.

I've heard a lot of complaint about Wii-U exclusives, I just figure we'll hear a lot of these complaints as things move to new next gen consoles.

I'm fine with them saying "I don't want to buy a Wii-U just for that one game." because I said the very same thing about what you're talking about, Wooster :phoenix: That's all well and good for them to say that, but it's just the level of hatred for Nintendo/the Wii-U/even the people voicing their opinions that differ from the Baytonetta fans, that comes from said fans that annoys me.

Personally, I'm more concerned with the price of gaming on the Wii U. The Wii snuck by at $50 in the US. For me, that is tight, but ultimately worth it. But $60 is the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

For compulsive buys for me, like Trauma Center/Team, Smash Bros and Final Fantasy Tactics, Fire Emblem, I think I could still justify it. But for games that I simply enjoy a lot, like Mario Bros, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, Kingdom Hearts, Sonic, and Final Fantasy I'll have to wait until they hit the bargain bin. And then what of risky yet awesome games? After Trauma Center: New Blood, I was really not sure I wanted to play Trauma Team, and then there's Zack and Wiki. Would I be as willing to try those games for the first time at the new price?

What bothers me is the fact that Bayonetta didn't even exist on the Wii as it was solely on the 360 and PS3, but the Wii U gets the sequel. Unless Nintendo plans on bringing the first game to the system I just don't see Bayonetta 2 moving a whole lot of money their way. As much as I liked the first game, it just isn't enough justification for me to get a Wii U along with that popular $60 price tag.

*shrugs* Some folks will want a Wii U and already played Bayonetta on a PS3/Xbox anyway.

A little picture as an introduction to my post...

Image

The problem with the ''fans'' outcry wasn't so much that they were 'disappointed' in it being a Wii-U exclusive... it wasn't even the 'exclusives on mah consolz are rait, but nott on Nentendo's that sux!' (that's understandable, a bit).
It's that it was totally blown out of proportion. Sure, I'd be severely disappointed if Capcom made an iOS exclusive of AAI2 (and not just because I don't own such a device, since it'd probably get ported to Android anyway, like G123 were), but I certainly wouldn't go and spam the developers' twitter account with insults, and I would certainly NOT send them death threats and such (yes, there WAS death threats... I couldn't believe it myself).

In just a few minutes, those so called 'mature gamers' dealt a great deal of damage to gaming's reputation, and the work of those many peoples and companies which are trying to prove that gaming is a perfectly acceptable hobby, and not something for psychopaths and kiddos, or a training machine for terrorists-to-be. Those 'gamers' sent the wrong message : that not only that they were a bunch of kids, throwing a tantrum because they won't get a toy they wouldn't have had anyway, but also that they had not an ounce of maturity. To the world, and especially anti-gaming personalities (and any adult that wants to ban games because it's something they don't understand), they gave some more ammunition to 'prove' gaming is a 'bad' thing.

And more importantly, they call themselves 'diehard fans of Bayonetta', but they don't seem to realise one crucial thing : Bayonetta 2 would probably never have existed AT ALL, had Nintendo not stepped in. Even if things have somewhat improved lately, the previous publisher, Sega, haven't been doing too hot lately... you know, when they cancelled pretty muh of their current projects that wasn't Sonic and co. When they closed all their Europeans offices, and Koch Media is now their publisher in Europe. The thing is, no other publisher went to Platinum Games and told them 'ok, Sega can't really do it atm, but we want to publish your game'.

Nintendo did. They saw it as an opportunity to have a great game fir their new home console, and provided the kind of experience they can't really provided themselves. Nintendid what others didn't. That's as simple as that.

But most of all, as a conclusion. To prove how friggin' hypocrites those people are. They're always complaining Nintendo got no ''mature'' and ''hardcore'' games on their consoles (el. oh. el.), and when Nintendo makes a move to provide such a game for their new consoles... they complain that it's getting a release on a Nintendo console. Like, ok?

How funny that those so-called ''hardore gamers'', who only swear by ''mature'' games.... are displaying such an astute utter lack of maturity. Oh, the irony.

***

If you want an excellent reaction to this 'outcry', read this article. It's a really interesting read, believe me.

***

If you want to have a good laugh, here's a special Iwata Asks with an internet fanboy. Oh, and this made me laugh a lot (not the actual comments, the way the guy reads them :gant: ).

ps: as you've probably realised, I absolutely despise and abhorr the terms 'mature' and 'hardcore'. To me, they're just another version of 'pfff, my d*ck's bigger than yours!!11!!'. A game remains a game, whether you slaughter thousands of monsters with a machinegun, or tick boxes in Picross-e.

Your Iwata asks link is the same as the lovely counter-article to the outcry.

Also the guy reading comments is the cool Maximillian, big fighting game dude, made a nice little demonstration video with Phoenix Wright for UMVC3

I too wanna see that Iwata Asks. Correct link, anyone? Too sleepy to google it.

And that guy reading comments is here on CR, too, as MegamanNG. At least he has an account in the backup forums, I don't recall if he has one here. One of the best yet most underrated LPers around. He's got an excellent, very complete AAI2 playthrough too, if I recall correctly.

Ooops ! Sorry for messing the links ! Here's the ''special'' Iwata Asks with an internet fanboy (it's not official, of course :D)

Funnily enough, it was written by the same guy as the interesting article (Chris Scullion, ex-ONM Staff).

Personally, I've never played Bayonetta, but I was still very excited by the announcement. Hope the first one will make its way on Wii U too.

I've played the original Bayonetta and I love it -despite getting stuck on the difficult enemies 2/3 through the game- even though I'm not really into the hack-n-slash genre. However, I think people are getting a tad disappointed at Nintendo for this announcement: if it were announced as an exclusive for another system such as the 360 or PS3, I think the reactions wouldn't be nearly as exaggerated.

Someone should make a movie out of this.

"In a utopian world of multiplatform console games, one developer dared to do the unthinkable: announce the creation an exclusive sequel for a NINTENDO CONSOLE.

Days later, Hideki Kamiya's Twitter account got slammed with death treats and now danger is knocking on his door! Now, time is running out as the 'hardcore gamers' wage war.

Coming to a theater near you in 2014!"

The funny thing is I'm a little ticked off Nintendo chose to revive this game because; I really, really, really did not like the original. I see this as a wasted choice when they could have put the same support to something much better.

Like a new Starfox or F-Zero, i.e. something their own fanbase might desire more than a sequel to a PS3/360 game. Even have Platinum make it if they must, Vanquish was awesome so they can make a good game.

Or Vanquish 2, even that'd be nice. Just not Bayonetta 2.

Nintendo's publishing, not developing, Bayonetta 2. You don't have to worry about this stealing resources from other games, aside from maybe marketing.

I'm sure there will still be titles for all the classics to come but Nintendo really need to grasp some third party support now.

It's hard to grasp Nintendo sometimes. They 'revived' the old Kid Icarus to the 3DS, but leaves Starfox in the dust after the Nintendo 64 (Starfox 64 for 3DS was just a reboot, Starfox Adventures was pretty much a blasphemy and Starfox Assault was a step in the right direction but didn't please the fans) even though the 'Starfox fanbase' screams for another installment in the series.

But as Wooster said:
Wooster wrote:

Though I praise Nintendo for taking up a lost case and trying something different, I can't help but find this choice to be helluvalot strange. Look, we all know that Nintendo has some 'hardcore' games on the Wii. This console is beginning to run its course with the introduction of the Wii U. The thing is, since the Wii U is so new only a few games are released. With the commotion around Bayonetta 2 this could harm Nintendo's image. Bayonetta is (as far as I know) filled with violence and sexuality (and a combination of the 2). Would they want to put this on the map even before an official mario title comes out? It doesn't fit well in the: BRING YOUR PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS TO THE LIVING ROOM TO HAVE SOME MOTION BASED FUN kind of attitude.

I repeat though, kudos for Nintendo to pick up this fallen project but I have some question marks in terms of why they decided to do it.
Face your emptiness don't be afraid. The danger is often smaller than your fear.

That same image also puts off a lot of more serious gamers though. I think it was a strong move securing Bayonetta 2 as it sends a message that Nintendo is willing to embrace serious gaming with third parties early on. Sure there's the unpleasant factor of people who bought Bayonetta 1 who will be cross that it's probably going to be a Wii U exclusive but that's still smart for nintendo as they might wring an extra sale or two out of it.

While the Wii had it's extreme games (Madworld for one, also by Platinum) I think the announcement of Bayonetta combined with ZombiU send a good message to gamers about their intentions with this console.
