Everyone remember Lunar Magic, the Level editor for Super Mario World on the SNES? There's a similar level editor out now for New Super Mario Bros. Wii called 'Reggie!'. Unlike Lunar Magic however, this level editor will not work with Roms and emulators, only with your Wii and an official copy of NSMBW.

Now, it goes without saying that to use this you'll need to have your Wii hacked. But in addition you'll need two items.

The first, "Reggie!", is your level editor. But unlike Lunar Magic you can do some cool scripting events; this is where you'll write your levels. And don't worry about your OS, Reggie works on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

The other half is how you play the files. Riivolution, the patching application for any wii game. And don't worry about Riivolution causing permanent damage to your games. This system is as harmless as the GameGenie, GameShark, or Action Replay of old. Only instead of replacing particular addresses with values on the fly, Riivolution intercepts file requests and loads them from your SD card instead. So, instead of loading the game's edition of 1-1, you'll load your version of 1-1. Don't have 1-2 on your SD Card? It'll load 1-2 from the Disk. Naturally, you'll need to have installed the Homebrew channel on your wii first. Don't have it installed? You'll need to hack your Wii first, just be careful. Nintendo obviously isn't in favor of this installation, so anything you do from here on out is at your own risk. If you're brave enough to keep going, I personally recommend the Banner Bomb method, make sure you use the right bomb for your current Wii System Menu.

Uninterested in creating your own levels? Try Downloading other people's creations, or even upload your own. Since Reggie! is only a few days old, there aren't many levels out yet, but just you wait, this thing's going to be big. I can't wait to try out these levels with my family.

I don't understand why Nintendo hasn't made this on their own.

Maybe they feel that that's something they could save for the next NSMB game? I mean, from my personal perspective, they've tapped out what can technically be done on Mario and platforming. A new feature like that would be amazing to promote in the next game.

On the other hand, Mario type level creation is significantly more complex then Smash Bros Brawl. I'm uncertain Nintendo would allow it, considering their intended market.

Or they could just sell the editor in the Wii Shop; I mean seriously that would be much more producing instead of waiting for the next game.

Mmm. That is a best of both worlds approach. And the more I think on it, the more that makes a gosh darn lot of sense. Here's hoping for the Wii-2.

The answer is because they are lazy, and don't want anything fanmade unless it's paid for... which is ironic because they seem to make it easy to pirate games on their consoles... :eh?:
Winning is all that matters!

Oh my! Oh my! Oh my! Oh my! Oh my!

I feel like such an 8 year old right now. Then again, I got my first console, the SNES, when I was about 7 with Super Mario World and Mario All Stars, so I guess the reversion is understandable. But oh my, oh my. They updated Reggie! with a preinstalled server downloading system. Every month you can get a new set of levels that the staff thought were swell and pre download and configure them for you. This month they've got enough levels for Worlds 1 and 2. This is a ton of fun playing new levels that had some intelligent people sifting through them. I've had much better luck finding good levels this way then fumbling through the downloads.

=D I can't remember being this excited about something so simple.
