Everyone remember Lunar Magic, the Level editor for Super Mario World on the SNES? There's a similar level editor out now for New Super Mario Bros. Wii called 'Reggie!'. Unlike Lunar Magic however, this level editor will not work with Roms and emulators, only with your Wii and an official copy of NSMBW.
Now, it goes without saying that to use this you'll need to have your Wii hacked. But in addition you'll need two items.
The first, "Reggie!", is your level editor. But unlike Lunar Magic you can do some cool scripting events; this is where you'll write your levels. And don't worry about your OS, Reggie works on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
The other half is how you play the files.
Riivolution, the patching application for any wii game. And don't worry about Riivolution causing permanent damage to your games. This system is as harmless as the GameGenie, GameShark, or Action Replay of old. Only instead of replacing particular addresses with values on the fly, Riivolution intercepts file requests and loads them from your SD card instead. So, instead of loading the game's edition of 1-1, you'll load your version of 1-1. Don't have 1-2 on your SD Card? It'll load 1-2 from the Disk. Naturally, you'll need to have installed the
Homebrew channel on your wii first. Don't have it installed? You'll need to hack your Wii first, just be careful. Nintendo obviously isn't in favor of this installation, so anything you do from here on out is at your own risk. If you're brave enough to keep going, I personally recommend the
Banner Bomb method, make sure you use the right bomb for your current Wii System Menu.
Uninterested in creating your own levels? Try
Downloading other people's creations, or even upload your own. Since Reggie! is only a few days old, there aren't many levels out yet, but just you wait, this thing's going to be big. I can't wait to try out these levels with my family.
