This game is the best freakin game I have played since Elite Beat Agents. Sadly, I don't own it, but I am soooo addicted to it.

Edit: Now I sure as hell own it. I have GH2 on PS2 and GH3 on Wii, and I've played the other ones and beat them all on Expert. (Except GH3, I'm working on it.)

I own it. Guitar Hero 1 is a fair bit easier than 2 in my opinion, with a better songlist too. 1 I can play every song on Extreme reliably with 2 exceptions: Frankenstein, I do decently on; and Cowboys from Hell, which is, aptly, from Hell. 2, I cannot get past Psychobilly Freakout on Extreme.

Only song I need to do on Expert is Free Bird (and Jordan, but that goes without saying), myself.

And there was a ton of topics about GH here before.

I can do Jordan. I fucking killed my index finger and pinky, as well as my wrist, and only got a three star, but I did it. And I thought Six was harder anyways.

(And a better song).

I only have GH 1, and I'll probably keep it that way, I like the songs 100% more.

Lemme check if I've done Six. Probably, but you never know.

Okay. NOW it's done. And Six isn't all that hard if you can do Misirlou.

And forget what I said about Free Bird. I just did it.

I must be remembering wrong. You're right, Six is easy. Jordan's still the hardest.

... Excellent song at least. <3

DDR is a faceless and bare bones rhythm game with a seemingly randomly generated pop soundtrack.

Guitar Hero is full of charm and wit, handled amazingly, and has a winner soundtrack.

Jungle would be my bet... even though due to the San Andreas licensing the cost must have risen up to the SKY~.

Plus, with Rock Band running about, I'm assuming that there's going to be a bidding war.

I played GH once when I was at this video games exibition at the British Science Museum. Considering it was the first time I played the game, I did exceedingly well. Perhaps I just have rhythm :3 (I'm good at Donkey Konga too, and I'm hopefully going to be good at EBA)

And GH3 is coming to Wii, which rocks my socks off ^_^ Shame most of the tracks I actually like were on GH 1 and 2. I'm going to have to buy a PS2 at some point just to play Trogdor :F (Then again, I WAS planning at some point to get a PS2 when it's gotten cheaper, so we'll have to see.)

DDR is only hard because there's a bigger difficulty spread. From 1-10 rather than neatly arranged in 4 difficulty modes.

Guitar Hero really does beat DDR, even though I'm much better at DDR. The simple cardinal point stepping is not dancing, and that bothers me, not to mention the set list that I get tired of.

That's the only song I have left to beat. How did you do it? My god, I tried to beat that song over and over - but to no avail, I just couldn't beat it.

Haha. I figure that you are. I think the closest I ever actually came to beating it was.. about 60-70%, and that was about my 10th try. Maybe I should try at it again tonight. Maybe I can finally pull it off. Just maybe, I hope.

You speak the words of the wise, Hell. Guitar Hero kicks DDR's ass by a long shot, in my opinion. I just don't like random pop soundtracks, like you said.

About time Weezer got some attention. I also hear they are trying to get a Metallica song for GHIII.

Guitar Hero 1 is alot better, it's much more difficult, the songs selection is not only better, but the quality of the covers is much higher. Two only has better multilayer options, only reason why I would prefer it.

More difficult my ass. If by that you mean the hammer-ons and pull-offs, perhaps, but the song difficulty went far higher in 2.

Man, I let my friends borrow and lend around my GH games and guitar amongst themselves for a while, and quite frankly, it was well worth it.

You just haven't played Guitar Hero until you've done Pro-Face Off on Expert with a large group of generally equally skilled players. It's just such a blast.

Get the timing down for the Red -> Yellow, Red -> Green first and foremost. It's the backbone of this song, and you're gonna need it.

Remember, Red is NEVER a hammeron/pulloff in the main beat.

The whole reason I've been inactive for the last couple weeks is due to Guitar Hero, but I finally beat Freebird.....well, on medium anyways. Still can't get the hang of that orange button. It's grueling that I heard a rumor somewhere that GHIII might have a sixth button. :ack:

It won't, don't worry. The developers will definitely shy away from forcing a controller change on everyone.

I'm a VERY avid player of Guitar Hero. I've almost completed Expert, but Hangar 18 makes Carry Me Home's intro look like a freakin' Care Bear. I also need to 5-star two more songs on Hard.

Guitar Hero III has freakin' Ruby by the Kaiser Chiefs. Now I'm concerned that the soundtrack will suck and make 'fail' look like 'win'.

Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80's > GH I and II. Dead serious. Today, I beat Hard in one three hour sitting. It was fucking awesome. :D

Anyhow, I wrote a review for it, so I would love some feedback.

Guitar Hero Encore: Rock's the 80's
Playstation 2
MSRP: $50

I imagine that every person that has ever listened to great music has, just like Twisted Sister before them, wanted to rock. Guitar Hero has done a fantastic job in providing the musically impaired masses with the ability to flail on a musical axe to the beat of their favorite hits, and Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80’s re-tunes the game for those who want a more nostalgic flavor. Although the game is more of a slightly overpriced expansion pack than a full-fledged sequel to Guitar Hero, for fans of great 80’s tunes it is more then worth the price of admission.

For those not acquainted with the Guitar Hero series, the game unfolds as such: you, the player, are the lead guitarist of your own band, where you spend your days playing covers of great 80’s tunes in a variety of venues, ranging from a high school battle of the bands all the way to high paying rock and roll super shows. Gameplay has remained unchanged, but there’s no point in changing a good thing. Using the unique guitar controller you may (or may not) have bought with Guitar Hero I or II, you strum to the cascading notes onscreen with the beat of the music, with four difficulty levels for all levels of player.

For Guitar Hero veterans, this is all irrelevant. It’s the music that makes the music game, and Rock the 80’s delivers in spades. By focusing on the 80’s era in rock, Harmonix managed to find 30 songs that capture what can easily be considered one of the best decades in rock and roll. On the disk you’ll find classics such as “The Warrior,” “Turning Japanese,” “Holy Diver,” “Nothing but a Good Time,” “Synchronicity II,” and much more. The songs are very catchy, uniquely challenging, and highly replayable, adding much value to those who may fell a little ripped off the relatively low number of songs. But As Elite Beat Agents has shown before, it’s not the number of songs, but the overall quality of the songs that really makes a game shine. Really, the only problem the game has is the lack of unlockables beyond earning new guitars and one unlockable character. Only a select number of gamers will really keep playing the songs just the for sake of playing the songs or achieving high scores.

But, at the end of the day, Rocks the 80’s appeals to one group, and does an excellent job in giving fans of 80’s music exactly what they want: a dedicated set of songs for the hair-metal rocker in everyone one of us. Even at $50, the value of the game exceeds its price. For those about to rock, we salute you.

9.0/10

Pros: Most excellent music selections; sharp gameplay; retains the great features found in Guitar Hero II
Cons: 30 songs for $50 is a little hard to swallow; almost no unlockables; No Bon Jovi? Seriously?

I love Guitar Hero. Only have the first though. Haven't played in ages due to the sheer mess of my room the fact that I need more room to rock out.

GHIII is on my wishlist purely because of Muse. KoC live = amazing. PLAYING KoC? I'll love it. GHII's playlist wasn't so enchanting for me.
