For me, the best woud be:
-Shadow Hearts Covenent's Good ending
Spoiler:
Because c'mon, it was heartbreaking to see Yuri go from SH1 to the very end where he really can't do anything but beat the curse in his own way. Plus, aside from winning he got to be with Alice again and then there's the impication that he's going to get a chance to complete the good ending of SH1

-Crisis Core.
-Final Fantasy VIII.

Worst:
-Rogue Galaxy. It's a terrible game to begin with but Kisala just made things worse.
-Dragoneer's Aria. No information about ANY of the character's futures without even any ending pictures to guess with, forced redemption for the final boss that made no sense at all, and everything is clumsily tied together with a 'hey look! All the races are working together for this one little thing in this one little group! THE END.'

It seems to me that a lot of bad endings come from really good games.

-Good-

Assassin's Creed II - While the final battle left much to be desired, the ending was cliffhanging and leaves me excited for the final game in the trilogy.

Dark Cloud 2 (Dark Chronicle) - I really liked this ending, I was mildly emotionally wrought by it.

Twilight Princess - Another fantastic ending that I just didn't see coming.

-Bad-

Breath of Fire 3 - While the whole climax of the story and the buildup to the actual end is amazing, the final scene (with the party in the desert) is so anticlimactic, it's just disappointing.

White Knight Chronicles - While the game up to it was very enjoyable albeit rather short, the ending left me wanting so much more, it seemed like it should have been the penultimate occurrence before the actual ending. Granted that it was intended to directly segue into the sequel, that's not an excuse.

WORST:

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor, Yuzu's ending
Spoiler: SPOILERS I GUESS
WTF, IT'S THE SAME ON THE OUTSIDE TOO!? And never trust business men, even if they claim that their son is dieing and shit like that.

Super Paper Mario [shush, it wasn't that bad]
Spoiler: More spoilers... I guess
The ending was so sad/cheesy. D= The Count and Tippi died together to save the world. I thought it was one of the best thought out storylines in a mario game [and that isn't really saying much]. Sounds like I'm describing a good ending, right? WRONG. RIGHT after Tippi dies, you can go off and buy another one just like her! WTF!? WHY DOESN'T THE GUILT BURN YOU, MARIO!? WHYYYYY!

Trauma Team, though it is overall a good ending, some parts are just... ugh.
Spoiler: SPOILERS + RANT YAY
The whole Naomi living thing and hugging Alyssa was great, but there are two seriously HORRIBLE parts of the ending. 1) They had TOMOE of all people come to talk to Naomi after her operation. Why not CR? WHY NOT LITTLE GUY!? Anyone other than her would've worked! Her personality's so dull, yet they had her be the one to tell Naomi "Oh, hey, you aren't going to die now. Hooray for you, and your PATH OF HONOR PATHOFHONORPATHOFHONORPATHOFHONORetc." I thought I was DONE seeing her annoying face, but nooo, she just HAD to barge in again. 2) Gabe inspecting the player's face was just... a wtf moment. I mean, seriously,is he some kind of mystical being that can break and reform the 4th wall at will? And the seventh doctor thing made me want to dip my face into molten hot lead.

Oh, and I bet anyone in this entire forum can recognize this horrible ending: The miracle never happen. 'Nuff said.

Can't really think of any good endings right now... Oh well.

Spoiler:
Mario's a soulless bastard. If it was Super Paper Luigi, Tippi probably would've gotten a grave, a funeral service, eulogies, the works. Hell, even Bowser woulda showed a little more compassion.

-Best-

Castlevania: Lament of Innocence

Spoiler:
Although a lot of people say the game itself wasn't up to par, I thought the ending was pretty good. Sad, sure, but it brought a lot of that hadn't been explained in the series together. Mathias becoming Dracula was a good twist and it explains why the Belmonts hate him so much. Sara dying was depressing, but it told us how the Vampire Killer became magical. Plus the line, "From this day on, the Belmont clan will hunt the night!" is extremely cool sounding. All in all, a good end to the beginning of a great series.

...I can't think of anymore good ones at the moment...

-Worst-

Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen

Spoiler:
Okay, so basically all that happens, after beating five of the hardest trainers in a row, Professor Oak comes up and say "Oh, hey! You're the Pokemon Master and you made my grandson cry! Bye-bye now!" And then...you run. For fifteen straight minutes as you watch the credits. And you can't skip it. I mean after all that fighting you had to do, you'd at least think you could get some congratulations or something. Maybe some confetti out of nowhere like in Phoenix Wright. But no. You get running.

Final Fantasy VIII

Spoiler:
Alright, so it wasn't the ending itself I found bad, just the confusion that came with it. So many gamers saw Squall unconscious in a field of flowers and they immediately came to conclusion that he's dead. And at first I did too! But unlike all of them, I actually watched to the end of the cutscenes where you can clearly see Squall alive and well! But still to this very day, many people still swear that Squall died. When he didn't. Even official sources say he didn't!

I'm gonna be a blitzball when I grow up!

Best:

- Crisis Core
- Final Fantasy X
- The World Ends With You
- Ace Attorney series games? ; D

Worst:

I can't really think of any right now; atm I can only think of Final Fantasy X-2 (Yeah, it has several endings, they all kinda blow), but it's not really the worst, just not the best.

Best:
Spoiler:
Hotel Dusk: Room 215 - I couldn't stop smiling after finishing it. Kyle got his wish fulfilled and helped other people as well.
Mother 3 - I don't get it. It's so anticlimatic and yet so... beautiful.
Final Fantasy VI - Yeah sure it's nearly 30 minutes long but every minute of it is enjoyable. All 14 characters get their time in the spotlight. The music also helps.
Terranigma - ;_;
Zelda: A Link to the past - Link wishing that his uncle comes back to life and putting the Master Sword back... Beautiful. Also dat music
Portal - The original ending, not the new one. Seeing the cake for the first time... awesome for some reason.
Chrono Trigger - The festival ending, if you did all the sidequests. Everything's back to normal, you party for a bit, and then the heroes go separate ways. Epic.

Worst:
Spoiler:
Super Mario Bros. - "NO I DON'T WANT ANOTHER QUEST JUST GIVE ME A KISS ALREADY" - probably what Mario was thinking
Resident Evil 4 - I loved the game, but that was just cheesy.
Chrono Cross - what? what just happened?

Worst ending for me would definitely be Assassin's Creed. The game was great fun, climbing and leaping and assassinating. I would have liked more of a stealth element, but it was fine without one. But the ending...! Atrocious! Horrible! The worst I've ever seen! Especially since the game itself was fun, and they ruin it with that aboninable excuse for a conclusion!

The best ending... Well, to be completely honest, my favourite game ending was from Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. It's the only game ending I've ever played that had me literally yearning for more. I wanted to know what was going to happen next so badly. And I will admit, the first time I beat it, my eyes were clouding up.

It didn't think it was that bad. Well, yeah the boss fight against Al Mualim was pretty shitty, at least I thought so but the ending itself felt more like: "What the hell...?" not in a bad way though... it felt like you've been running along a path and suddenly a wall appears, that's how it felt to me...

...Prototype's ending was quite meh. First, that boss fight was just ugh... I've been more running around on that ship than actually trying to attack that huge zombie-thing. And then, Alex's conclusion was just argh "I may be not human blah blah blah" you just figured that out NOW? It's not like you've been infected with that virus for several months but yeah, you just figured out that forming your arm like a blade isn't quite possible for a human being.

I can't think of any that are the worst (I typically don't finish video games... XD) but the best endings to me are from every single Professor Layton game. Why? They all managed to make me cry. You know a game is hardcore when you cry over it.

Spoiler: Curious Village
Not a particularly sad ending, but it was sweet and I hated to see it over. I really DID tear up over this ending, but I really don't know why. I just cried. Though I will admit, if you think about the Violet/Dahlia thing, it is pretty depressing.

Spoiler: Diabolical Box
What can I say? A great end to a tragic love story. Had me tearing up. Especially so when Anton talks about "staying here to get to know someone first" Ugh. I bawled. Bittersweet, poetic, all-around fantastic.

Spoiler: Unwound Future
Now, I know it's not in English but I couldn't wait long enough and spoiled the entire game for myself. And let me tell you. WHAT A DEPRESSING ENDING. Like, depressing in the good way that has you rolling on the floor crying for hours. I mean, you can't have a more tragic love story than between Layton and Claire. This shit trumps Romeo and Juliet. Because you know if the emotionless Professor is CRYING, it's gotta be pretty freaking sad. And then you throw in the motivation for a certain villain that is not Don Paolo, and you just want to give him all the hugs you can while they're taking him away to prison. And THEN you split up the dynamic duo and it just puts the icing on the cake of depression. I mean you give it a hopeful last note but all in all its just DEPRESSING. But perfectly done.

I will never have a game tug on my heartstrings like this series has. Ever.

Okay, I think I thought of the game with the worst ending-- Animal Crossing. Because there IS none. And it'll be sitting on your shelf making you feel guilty that you haven't played it in months, but you know you're bored of it but you're still guilty, and you know your house is all payed off but all your favorite neighbors have probably moved and UGH...
Can you handle us? So cool, baby, scandalous.

That's pretty much exactly it. Sure, Al Mualim was easy, but I didn't really care. What I didn't like was after you get out of the Animus. Those scientists just abandon you without explaining anything.

"Oh look we're under attack okay bye!"

Ubisoft pretty much wrote half a game and marketed it as a whole one.

Here's one that really grinded my gears:

Spoiler: Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn
At the very end, after they show all the other character's after stories, they then start to show Ike's. At first I was like "Oh, come on, they gotta make him a Crimean royal knight, or marry Elincia and become the king even!" But nope. You know what happened? He goes off into the desert and disappears, never to be seen again. Never has a game ending frustrated me so much.

Modern Warfare 2 for Best AND Worst endings.
Spoiler: SUPER MASSIVE ULTRA SPOILER
Seriously, Shepard killign the main character and Ghost? Getting caught in the crossfire between the Americans and the Russians. And killing Shepard witha throwing knife, these are the perfect ingrediants for ane exciting ending.

And then they just go and cock it up by leaving t ona cliffhanger, the story unresolved, i cans ee they were keeping it open for a sequal, but they could've at least gotten on the chopper beofre the credits!

Sadly, I agree with you on this one. I was so looking forward to an epic ending, and a cutscene that showed a good amount of all the main and major side characters, not show them for one second. It was still a good ending, but it could of been better.

Modern Warfare 2 was a lesson in pain for me, considering how stupid the plot is on a whole. Anyone with even a passing knowledge in military and politics realizes just how unrealistic the game is.

As for my own personal best and worst?

Spoiler: Sonic '06
Okay, this one is obvious, but the whole plot was building up to a huge, epic clash with Iblis and Mephelis, and they combine into Solarius. They have the needed super fight, but at the end, they just go back in time and make it so that the project never happened (presumably killing Solarius in the process), making it a "That's it? Go back and time so as to have an excuse as to why this thing doesn't exist in Sonic canon?"

Spoiler: Rise of Legends
This ending is pretty silly, so it's not my favorite ending. Basically, after storming Czin's base, Giacamo and Czin have a nice punch-out with their giant robots, and even revealing Czin's stone...metal...face...thing. Czin falls down a shaft, and what is obviously an alien appears as a hologram. This could establish a relationship between the world and aliens...so naturally, Giacamo blows up the thing with his gained superpowers.

Actually, I keep wondering why they say the Cuotl are bad. They're obviously trying to get home, and we don't get any real indicators that they're evil...so why did they bother blowing up the place? Never explained.

As for my best:

Spoiler: Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
I've had a lot of good games, but this ending really takes the cake. Bowser faces down Dark Bowser with sheer determination to kick his ass, Mario and Luigi beat down Fawful core, and then Bowser delivers five epic punches in a row that could easily qualify for Falcon Punch style epic, and then Dark Bowser, after all his efforts, loses. Bowser is just about to kidnap Princess Peach again when Fawful blows up and sets everyone free from Bowser's gut. Bowser is understandably pissed and tries to beat down Mario and Luigi again (losing once more, despite the fact that he should've been able to mop the floor with Mario and Luigi given his stats and skills) and Peach and crew send Bowser a victory cake for helping them out.

It's rather cheesy, but DAMN it was an awesome fight. The music alone really made it for me.
