The brand new 3D Sonic game, due for release on the Wii and DS. 2D on the DS before anyone screams.

Quote:
In Sonic Colors, players will use the power of the colored energy obtained from Wisps in order to traverse the environments. Revealed so far are the standard White Wisps that give Sonic extra boost, Blue Wisps that turn Sonic into a laser which can bounce off surfaces and travel through power lines, and Yellow Wisps that allow Sonic to dig into dirt surfaces to reach hidden areas. There is also a double jump move seen in the Wii version that's not a standard double jump, but rather gives a small amount of extra height to reach a platform's edge. The Wii version of Sonic Colors will use a mixture of 2D and 3D perspectives, akin to Sonic Unleashed's day stages, while the Nintendo DS version will take advantage of the dual screens of the handheld, similar to the Sonic Rush series. There are also Wisps exclusive to the DS version, such as a Red Wisp that turns Sonic into a living fireball.

Sonic Colors takes place on a planet that has been seen orbiting Sonic the Hedgehog's world, inhabited by an alien race called "wisps" that use a special colored energy. With the race under threat from Doctor Eggman, who is using a tractor beam to unite several different planets into one giant amusement park, Sonic and Tails arrive on the planet and harness the power of the colors to put an end to Eggman's plans. The Wii and DS versions will have slightly different stories to each other.

The demo at E3 was met with very positive reactions. They praised the game's sense of speed, graphics, and mechanics in the Wii version, and also gave the DS version positive feed back too, with the Wii version being modeled after Sonic Unleashed's day stages and the DS version being modeled after the popular Sonic Rush series.

Confirmed Characters:

Sonic The Hedgehog
Miles "Tails" Prower
Doctor Eggman Robotnik
Wisps

I must say, they look absolutely stunning for a Wii game. They look like Sonic Unleashed on the 360! :udgy:

That's actually pretty amazing. If this keeps up, Sega's probably out of their gameplay rut.

I'm really, really doubtful about Sonic games these days. I'll wait a while after it's released and check out the reviews.

But yes, it looks good.

I never finished Sonic Unleashed.
let's see if this game is worth it.
I want a game with shadow. Sonic Heroes was pretty cool, they should bring back something like that.

EDIT: The title says "Colours" but the pic says "Colors" what's with that?

When this was announced, I thought it would be another crappy Sonic game.

However,

I was blind but now I see.
This screenshots seem incredibly promising. I guess now I'll have to try it out.

But, seriously, Sega, Sonic Colors and Sonic 4 the same year? Is it me, or are they purposely killing the sales of one of the two games?

It's spelt "Colours" in England. The pic says "Colors" because it was written in America (or something like that).

The game looks cool, but I don't like the screenshots much. Maybe because they aren't moving...
I wonder if they'll let us play as Tails...

Maybe they're trying to kill the sales of Sonic 4 because they know it'll be disappointing, what with everyone expecting something as good as/better than the original trilogy.

I am immensely excited for the Wii version of Colours, because it honestly looks like it has almost everything I've always wanted from a 3D Sonic game with no garbage added to it to ruin the experience. I am buying a Wii this fall because of Colours and several of the games announced at E3.

The DS version, however, looks absolutely terrible. It's like a complete 180 from the Wii version. It's Sonic Rush 3 without the good music and Blaze The Cat (aka almost everything I felt made the first two Rush games even worth playing). I feel almost insulted that they did this. I can find absolutely nothing positive to say about the DS version.

The Sonic Cycle is generally true, though.
