Coolbeans! :redd:

Is it just me, or are they more inclined into an anime-style sort of visuals? Just look at the characters, compared to past games, they look a bit more... Cartoony?

I find the new art style a bit refreshing. It seems... Brighter.

Aye. I kinda like the new art style. It could use a bit less desaturation, but I don't see anything distasteful about it.

I wonder if there'll be online battles in the new game. I'd love to take some of you guys on.

I hope there are actual support convos in this game. Like PoR. If there IS Support.

*Army of recruits are all equipped with Silver Great Weapons. Might've been nice if any of them had a weapon level above E rank*

Oh yes. I really really really want old school support conversations back. Don't get me wrong, bonding with anyone in Radiant Dawn was convenient, but I'd almost rather they didn't include the filler conversations they did include. (And even stranger that given Support Conversations for Michiah and Sothe, they still used generic conversations.

Personally, my hopes are for a return of some of the objectives from Radiant Dawn, and Laguz. I enjoy the novelty of characters that can counter attack, but not direct attack. As for hopefully returning objectives, I'd like to see 3-13's Defend the Line again, that was all kinds of epic, as was burning the supplies, and battling your own characters.

I love Fire Emblem. Of the ones I've played I'd rank 'em 10, 9, 7, 6, 8, 11. I don't like 8 as much as some people seem to, however it does stand out as the only one I've tried and succeeded to play on Hard mode. (Well okay 10 too because American Normal is Japanese Hard).

I'm also a few chapters into 4 and have been since... April? For some reason I just have trouble finding the motivation to continue in that one. It's quite different from the later ones and I have trouble adjusting and getting into it. I don't know how to tell if I'm training characters well and the love system makes me more anxious than it probably should. I'll have to get myself to give it another try someday because I hear that fans of the series consider it one of the best.

I wish 12 would come out here. Has there ever been any word about it one way or the other? Like a statement of a reason why it's not coming over?

I imagine Fire Emblem 3DS would have online play after all I think they implemented it in Shadow Dragon. It'd be a step backwards if they didn't include it in the next version.

I wouldn't mind if the new game didn't have online play. IMO Fire Emblem isn't really made for online playing, but having it as an option would be nice.

@Regy Rusty: about FE4, it does take some time getting used to it, but it's easier than it seems. Your characters will be fine as long as you use the arena, really. Also, if any unit is dragging you down (i.e, if any of them are performing worse than the rest), then don't use them. Bad units are always bad units, no matter how much effort you put in them. Focus on the really good units instead, at least during your first playthrough.
As for the love system... just don't worry about it too much. Choose the pairings you want to do and keep them together as long as possible. It's not like in the GBA games where you have to make two characters talk to upgrade their support; characters in FE4 fall in love automatically, so as long as they're together, it should be OK. As for which pairings to do... it's up to you. I'd recommend doing the pairings that make the most sense storyline-wise (like Midir/Aideen), since those are usually the best pairings. But really, I don't think there are any terrible pairings. Don't worry too much about it.

Although, to be honest, I think FE4 is pretty overrated. The plot is pretty good (for FE standards, anyway), and the sountrack is great, but IMO it's not that good gameplay-wise. I think FE5, FE10 and FE12 are better in that sense.

Personally, I dislike using 'Good Units'. Or rather, the definition of good that includes in FE 10's: Harr, Nephenee, Ike, Royals, Titiana. It's no fun for me if my army slaughters the enemy, and doesn't get scratched in return. Once, I took Ike's team from 3-P and threw him into 4-1. Ike still slaughtered the enemy and leveled up insanely. Granted, he had an auto promote and got Aether. But if a X/10/1 Ike can't be killed one chapter late, then seriously what's the point in playing?

I prefer a small team with diverse strengths, preferably fighting an over leveled foe.

Though that's not to say even I don't find some units beyond help. While I'm a fan of Fiona, Meg has never treated me right, nor Illyana (Or mages in general in that game), and Vika suffers from poor availability and bad timing.

I think it'd be best to pick a team based on character rather than 'good' or 'bad' for that matter.
Mind you that's my attitude to any game. Sure you might have a bit more trouble beating the game if one of your favourites is a bit crap but it'll be more rewarding and I find I bond with the characters more if I use ones I like.

Oh I couldn't agree more. It's also why I don't like visiting Fire Emblem sites much. Folks there have an addiction to perfect stats, one rounding levels, and more or less not enjoying the game for the enjoyment of it.

(And honestly, sometimes I'll go to those sites, find which characters they hate, and then use them just to spite them. Giving characters some love because no one else does, helps me bond a bit more with my team)... Though I still tend to use early joiners above late recruits.

Well yeah you've built more of a connection with the people who join you early on.
Though the one thing I do watch out for and don't use is the 'escort' character.
The one that you get at the start who is normally an advanced class like a cavalier or something meant to help you through the earlier levels. I don't really use that one because I find his stats get outweighed real easily.

Though are fire emblem sites really so bad and metagamey?

I don't know if it's typical of the community at large, but the people that are all about having their 'best play' tend to think strongly on it, and they tend to hijack the topics. The people who don't care about that stuff, by default, don't care, and don't voice how silly they are. It's a case of the loud people being loud, and not being able to tell if they're the minority or majority.

And yeah, using the escort character is cheating if you've got any background in the series. I might use them as a meat shield early on, but little more then that. The one exception are the levels where "YOU GOTTA DEFEND THE FORT IN 10 TURNS" where there's an above average onslaught of enemies, that your primary team just can't keep up. Thus, the escort isn't stealing kills.

Um... I was just giving advice. I use bad units all the time (freaking Machua is my favourite FE5 character, and she kind of sucks), but when I'm going to play a Fire Emblem game for the first time, I usually try not to use characters that drag me down. It's on consecutive playthroughs when I start using bad units (if I like them).

Again, it's just advice based on what I do. Doesn't mean he has to follow it, of course.

Nothing wrong in theory. It's when they kill-joy people who aren't interested in those kinds of play throughs that my buttons get pushed. But I'm now getting to be too up tight on something that's supposed to be fun.

Yeah, those kind of people suck, but... their behavior doesn't have anything to do with what they like.
Besides, it's not just them. I've seen people being like, "TIERS LISTS SUCK AND YOU SHOULD ALWAYS USE BAD UNITS", which is just as bad. But that doesn't have anything to do with what they like either. It's just unpleasant people being unpleasant.

Nah I think getting too uptight is what those people who believe in Fire Emblem tiers and only using the best of the best characters are like if they look down upon/scold/suggest improvements to a 'normal' team.

I actually enjoy leveling up awesome units and watching them decimate enemy armies. >D

Shinon in RD got a little too insanely good though... especially for an archer lol. And he never quite got over being an asshole.

RD!Shinon is one of the few archers I can tolerate, actually, along with Jamka, Briggid (Ichival), Faval (again, Ichival) and Tania (she's a decent filler unit. Plus her relationship with Othin amuses me). Probably because he doesn't worship the ground Ike steps on unlike the rest of the cast.

I think my favorite Archer would be Will from "Fire Emblem". Anything out of his mouth hasn't gone through his brain filter.

*high fives* Though, Leonardo is my main archer in Radiant Dawn, I bring Rolf to end game as well. Mostly because Among 13 end game characters, having 12 two range characters doesn't feel very diverse. (Also it kinda motivates me to bring Oscar and Boyd to try the Triangle attack... but with Ike being a one man army, that never works out. I should try a new play through where I take Ike's crew to a Dawn Brigade chapter, have him die, and then return to the Griel Mercenary's chapters. Though, admittedly, I haven't done that, because I learned in testing that if Ike is dead, then 90% of the base conversations fail. You know, what with the check for dead or absent members in your party.

I always use Rolf as my main archer in PoR and he's awesome at what he does, but for some reason he didn't seem quite up to snuff in RD and Shinon ended up outclassing him.

My favorite archer is Rebecca, 'cause she tears up everything even though she looks so cute and innocent. XD

Indeed, trainees were a fun tier. (Although, I was unable to use Amelia in my original and only play through of Sacred Stones, she joined too late and all the enemies I as able to have her fight had defense equal or greater to her offense. Sure I could go back and do the towers, but where's the fun in grinding?) Ross and the other kid suited me very well however.

I found Ewan fine, he's awesome in that he can become any of the mage classes and they are pretty awesome.

And the dancer is Tethys, like, uh, the Tethys Ocean?

When the words "dancer" and "Tethys" are said, the ocean isn't what comes to mind... *shrugs*

I want to use Ewan sometime, actually. He probably sucks, though. I haven't played the GBA FEs in a long while...

Clear the game twice (once going through Eirika's route and the other on the opposite route) and on your third play the recruit units (Ross, Amelia and Ewan) will become Superrecruits (I think the difference is that they get better stat bonuses).

Well the summoner does use dark magic....

Though lets face it you don't wanna lose any units so you can use a zombie to draw the opponents out into a trap.
You can use a zombie to wear down powerful long-ranged weapons (which normally have like 5 uses)
You can use a zombie to block a passage.

They are just sooooo useful.
