Who else is desperately (no pun intended) waiting for this game? And being just a week away doesn't help.

Anyway, discuss Travis Touchdown's last (according to Suda 51) adventure here.

Also, Shinoby and Henry playable? What else can you ask for?

CURSE YOU FOR REMINDING ME!! I really want it but....I like not being broke....

Spoiler:
The First game was great and this one seems to be even better! I wonder though....How will the final boss fight....Will he or she be killed by another unknown family member to Travis? Or....Gah! It brings me to much pain to think about! Curse my inability to get a job!!!!

So in answer to your question, I wish I could ask for it for free! :larry:

Spoiler tags, my friend.

And I don't know about the final boss, but I read that, even when some of them are shared battles, there'll be around 50 bosses in NMH2. FIFTY. That includes higher ranked and lower ranked assassins, too.

NMH was amazing... But this looks like it can beat it blindfolded and with its hands tied down. I was first sold with dual-wielding beam katanas.
I mean, look at that:
Spoiler:

As I said, blindfolded and with its hands tied down.

This is certainly one of the games I'm most looking forward to in 2010, although there's no Euro release so far (which is irritating given that the American publisher is European itself), but I can wait.

The gameplay, graphics and the sheer craziness of it seem to have been upped, and it'll be interesting to play as two certain characters from the first game. Also from what's been revealed so far the final boss is likely to be someone from Pizza But, although knowing Suda it'll probably be a completely random plot-twist boss, like Bishop.

Only thing I'm slightly worried about is the sound-effects, I'm already finding the enemies yelling "Awawawa" when dieing far more irritating than the constant "Argh! My spleen!" from the first game, and that was pretty damn irritating in itself.

Exactly my thoughts, specially the part in bold.
No, really, everything seems to have been enhanced. I also read the free-roam mode has been severely fixed. Remember the annoying free-roam?

Agreed, some sound effects are just annoying. But, unfortunately, I don't think they changed them that much. Those sound effects were kinda an adding factor the the game's bizarre environment.

Ah, I glad to see I'm not the only one around here excited for the game. I was actually going to wait until after the release to make the topic myself, but it's still good to see some support in advance of the date, too.

It looks to be quite fun, taking everything great about the first game and turning it into something even more splendid and insane. The few boss fights revealed so far are already a sight to behold, and the mini-game jobs are a nice retro throwback as well.

Ahh, a real dilemma... I, personally, absolutely can't wait for Desperate Struggle, but am patiently waiting for AAI. Must be becuase I played it in Japanese (even though I never understood the plot, just wanted to get the visual feeling), but I definitely will play NMH2 first.

GRAAAGH looking forward to it so much.

I just hope if they are including the interesting little 'limit break' system they had in NMH1 then they'll make it available for general use in all combat not just the ranked mission ones.

Well I mean like the really special 'slot' attacks.

STRAWBERRY ON THE SHORTCAKE!

BLUEBERRY CHEESE BROWNIE!

ANARCHY IN THE GALAXY (Which I never managed to get)

And another...hmm

CRANBERRY CHOCOLATE SUNDAE!

However in hindsight these are actually called his "dark side" attacks forgive my memory.

Though it bothered me these didn't really show up outside of assassination missions I think.

Oh, yeah! You can still get those, according to trailers. One of them turns Travis into a mother-fucking tiger. And you kill minions by slashing them into pieces when in Tiger Travis.

3 more days...

Moreso, Travis gets a "hyper mode" whenever he builds up the tiger in the bottom corner to the point that it turns red - by pushing the "-" button, Travis becomes very fast and attacks like a maniac. He also becomes more likely to instinatly KO the enemies, or so I've heard.

Woah :O
Loyal to the good ol' Suda-style. Hah.

Anyway, if anybody REALLY wants to get spoiled, check this guy's YouTube account. The only thing I want to know is how the hell did he get the game 3 days earlier. Lucky bastard.

Blueberry Cheese Brownie Is the name of a song on the soundtrack which also has Strawberry Shortcake on it.

So it kinda indicates Blueberry is the right berry for the Cheese Brownie attack so it can't be the name of the Chocolate Sundae berry.

Bump and double post because this game fucking deserves it.

I just started this game, and I know it's twice what the first one was. Remember when Sylvia said in the NMH ending? "Too bad there's not gonna be a sequel, huh?". Well, there is, and thanks God there is.

BEWARE SPOILERS.
---
---
---
---
---
I warned you. I'm not sticking all this not a spoiler tag.

First, the first thing I noticed is that graphics are impressive. At least for a Wii game. They're much, much smoother than in NMH, and I'm loving it. This is noticeable during gameplay, not so much during cinematics, although you can see that these have been improved.

Second, the writing, Oh God the writing. Like I said, I just started the game, but I know that this game's writing is one of the best I'll have the pleasure to enjoy, unless NMH3 or 4 (if someday they turn out to, y'know, exist) are better. I can already name 3 quotes that surpass in epicness most quotes in videogames.

Spoiler: Paraphrased, may not be exact
1) Sylvia: "Don't take it so personal. That's the quickest way of losing a battle."
Travis: "This isn't a battle anymore. This is motherfucking war."

2) Travis: "Just sit back, Sylvia... and watch the Hell I'm gonna raise."

3) Travis: "We all have different ways of facing grief. Some people fuck at funerals. I cut heads."

There's also lots of 4th-wall breaking in the first scenes. Even to the point when Travis and Sylvia talk to and look at the camera for one or two lines. Kinda like the good ending in NMH.

Spoiler: NMH Good ending
(Henry tells Travis that he's his half-brother)
Travis: "What!? And you waited this far in the game to tell me!?"
Henry: "I thought that players would like a dramatic twist for the ending."

Third, the 8-bit minigames... They really look, sound and play like old games. There's even a couple of 8-bit sound clips for Travis' voice. Awesome.

Fourth, they eliminated the Free-Roam world, and entrance fees. Ranked battles are now absolutely free to play, and getting money is just to get goodies (new lucha-libre moves/suplexes, clothes, food for Jeane).

Fifth, Jeane. You can now actually interact with the kitty! It's a side-game, where you help Jeane lose all the weight she gained after No More Heroes. You can play with the toy from NMH (but you control it now), you can lift her by pressing A repeatedly, you can try to make her jump high, massage her, and feed her. But just once, then you've gotta let some time pass. Funny side-game, adds to the game's experience.

And sixth and final (because listing everything would take forever; they improved everything that they could from the first game), the sheer craziness. In one of the first scenes, when you meet Sylvia at Burger Suplex, while you're talking to her, suddenly a man falls from a building, smashing into a car, and Syvlia and Travis keep talking, while a police officer is taking notes and examining the destroyed body.

The pearl: "Bizarre Jelly 5". The game-inside-the-game and the anime-style animations that you unlock by playing the game. Just... it's the most hilarious parody I've seen of anime. It even imitates the exact "transforming" sequence from Powerpuff Girls Z, which is hentai-ishly suggestive, for lolicons. That, and random panty-flashes, and exaggeratedly huge boobs. Also, the characters are named after berries, fruits and such. "Strawberry", "Cranberry"...

Just... play this game. I don't know why some people scored it under 9, I'd give it a 10/10. One of the best and most hardcore games the Wii has. Now I gotta leave, I have to beat the hell out of the 49th ranked's ass.

I've been playing all morning, stopping just for a quick rest before I jump back into it. Currently rank 10, and loving almost every minute so far. The only real complaint I have is that Travis goes through the ranks far too quickly - that, and so far the assassins seem a bit... dull, compared to the ones from the first game. Otherwise, it's been a great ride as is. I can't wait to finish this and start over on bitter.

I've played 11 hours straight. Eleven. From noon until just half an hour ago. God, I'm addicted to it.

Right now, I'm on Rank 9, getting thrown down the buildings every 5 minutes. 10th Ranked (Million Gunman) was pretty hard, but I got lucky and he wouldn't stop trying to shoot me, and when he raised his gun, I just slashed him twice. Rinse and repeat, until he died.

The robot fight was repetitive, but very original. The Charlie-getting-into-Death-Parade and Travis-getting-into-Glastonbuy sequences seemed anime-like, and that was hilarious!

I got Jeane on 7000g! That means I helped her lose around 3 or 4 kg. Biotch's gettin' slim!

Also, Shinobu's jumping is annoying me.

I've beaten the game twice now, and am currently halfway through it again on Bitter.

I can safely say that while the game was generally improved in almost every way, the only big nitpick I have is with some of the new bosses. A few of the early ones seem bland and uninteresting, especially Matt Helms and Million Gunman. That, and a few more bosses in general would've been nice. The later ones though, especially the top three or four before the final boss, are really great. The final boss himself... well, not so much. Too cheap and repetitive, but still interesting story-wise.

By the way, the dual beam katanas are insane. They cut enemies down in an instant, recharge fast and look awesome. My weapon of choice, despite the short range.

So in summary, great game, very fun, would recommend to anyone with a Wii and a need to fill their lives with lightsabers, self-referencial humor and a generally fun time.

DeMatador wrote:

After playing through her segment twice, I can definately agree with you. If they made her jump just a bit higher, or made the platforming a little more forgiving, it would've been much better.

Hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I started the game yesterday and so far it's amazing. I can't even describe how much I enjoy it. The solid storyline, the new weapons, the references, it's all awesome.

Though, I do miss some of the stuff from NMH1, like the open-ish environment. I could spend an hour just cruising around on the Schpeltiger without a care in the world (until I crashed into a wall, of course). And kicking open dumpsters to get money and new t-shirts. I didn't really like how they changed Mask de Uh. He used to be so chill, but now he's all metalcore-screamo. And the new job man isn't as cool as the original Job Center guy. Also, I don't see why they had to replace Thunder Ryu. He was running his own gym just fine even after what happened to him. Lastly, I miss Heavenly Star. The music in 2 is exceptionally great, but Heavenly Star was just so... addictive.

My best friend is currently playing NMH1, and he spends hours on the Schpeltiger. HOURS. Mostly purposely crashing it and pressing - just for lulz. Personally, that annoys me XD
I also miss the dumpsters. And slashing the beam katana into grass.
Thunder Ryu... Could they really replace it after what happened in NMH1? He was still in the gym after that, I know, but maybe it was just laziness from the devs.
Regarding the music, I don't like how they added lyrics to the main theme.

Also, the dual weilding beam katanas... Jesuschrist, I love them. It's so combo-friendly and powerful, you can slash gunmen in half (and gunmen are the most annoying of them all when you're fighting 1-on-1) with the new slash that you do by shaking the Wiimote (I love that new attack, it opens the possibility for combos or some extra damage once in a while). Also, they recharge incredibly fast. In my opinion, they are the perfect weapon.

Well, they now have this Ryan guy (more like gay, amirite) running the local gym, rather than having Thunder Ryu's gym still available.

The added lyrics I thought were a nice addition. Putting music from the remix soundtrack into the game was pretty cool...

As far as I understood...

Spoiler: Desperate Struggle's ending, spoiled just in case
When Travis defeated Batt Jr., he pretty much ended the company he controlled and it's stranglehold on Santa Destroy. As Sylvia was funding her new UAA legally through that, his death pretty much means the end of the UAA as well. Since Sylvia is as unstable as it gets, she dropped Travis off at his home and left town on the Schpeltiger, settling in some foreign place and taking up work at some kind of peep show. At the end of the game, Travis finally talks to her (it was he that she was talking to trough a one-way mirror in the odd cutscenes between levels, supposedly to make her realize just who she really is) and tells her to go home with him.

Sorry if that was a big mess of thoughts, but that's how I see it. :godot:

Believe me, there are some rather catchy earworms in this game. A certain gothic grim-reaper/sniper girl comes to mind, if you've gotten that far.

Well, they now have this Ryan guy (more like gay, amirite) running the local gym, rather than having Thunder Ryu's gym still available...

I'm pretty sure the main reason they didn't use Thunder Ryu again is because of what happens to him in the first game. That, and it would be pretty odd to have a ghost throwing barbells at you... Cool, but odd.

@DeMatador: If you think the running Wiimote slash is impressive with the Rose Nasty, you should try the nunchuk-shaking spinning move you get by helping Jeane. There's nothing like decapitating three guys at once while spinning in mid-air. Plus they combo really nicely, through at the price of some battery power.

I haven't played the first one, but this game sounds awesome, what would you recommend? play the first and then the second one? or it doesn't matter?

If you're willing to buy and play two games, then definitely both. If not... the first one. Then, wait some time and the second one.
Unless you don't care about continuity. Then the second one.

@Orca: I already unlocked it, but it's not that powerful. At least not with the dual-katanas. It's useful for getting away when fatties with chainsaws attempt to gangbang you, though.

Did anyone else notice the difficulty jumped ridiculously after playing Shinobu? I ripped through Matt and Cloe in no time flat with the Peony, beat Shinobu's stages with little trouble (though hitting the switches to disarm the lasers guarding the door was a pain and a half), and now I'm getting utterly destroyed by 7th Rank.

And I'd train my stamina and muscle (both are at level 3) but the gym minigames are too damn hard at Level 4.

So uh, yeah. Lower difficulty curve or gym games that weren't impossible would have been nice.

I didn't find them hard after Shinobu, really. I've had the most trouble with Matt Helms, until I got the hang of it.

And I didn't find gym games impossible. I went through all of them together, in a row.

Dammit, my Wii suddenly stopped reading games. It's not a problem, I can get t fixed, but I was about to fight the 2nd Ranked.

I find the Peony (that's the heavy, slow katana, right?) too hard. I rather have speed than power. And the Rose Nasty is fast and powerful, so I prefer it over all of them.

So yeah, My friend is incredibly nice and is letting me borrow it for a few days.

A few gripes,

The Auto lock and Camera.....I don't know why but both aggravate me very much. I probably need to simply get used it but...I just hate the whole Auto Guarding that comes with the Auto Lock....The Camera angles magically start to anger me for no real reason also.....

Charging.... I had the little motion for the First one that basically let me charge any Beam Katana in about 5-10 seconds Flat....In 2....Good lord, I have to go hide and Shake so hard that I swear my arms would fly off! And It takes so long! Gah!!! And The Beam Katanas them selves....Geez...I'm used to be able to upgrade them..But so far it doesn't seem possible and my friend told me what you see is what you get....

Enemies.... Now mind you, I have only beaten 4 Bosses as of now but still, Same guys...Minor Variations. Same voice...Same lines over and over...MOMMY! What ever happened to my Spleen? Ugh, and the new enemies voices annoy me...

The Schpeltiger..Okay, so yeah. They took stuff off of it...Bleh...

The Gym.... God I hate the new gym. The Games.....They are really freaking hard to me... The Old Thunder Ryu one was fine! I could do all the motions easy! I'd cut it close on the final ones at times but still, at least I could beat all of them! And the guy...I'll stay quiet bout him.

Of course, This could all be related to the Simple Fact that I'm playing Bitter First and plan to work my way down... Woah, I'm angry.....Oh, I forgot one last thing, The announcer before the Assassin Fights...I miss his voice.

Believe me, there are some rather catchy earworms in this game. A certain gothic grim-reaper/sniper girl comes to mind, if you've gotten that far.

Just finished this game and freakin' loved it :3
I'm satisfied with the ending, but I also felt that many things were left unanswered.

Spoiler:
Like, why did Sylvia end up working at a prostitution?
What happened to Shinobu? Or even Henry?
Since Travis and Henry are twins, how were they separated, and why does Henry have an Irish accent?
And finally... what happened to Sylvia's daughter Jeane from the first game? If that even is her daughter...

But overall, it was a fun fun game. I can't say whether it was better than the first one or not. I think each game had their strong and weak points.
