You wouldn't know it but I'm about as big a Sega fan as you can be. I used to drool over their stuff (specifically Sonic).

But recently, all they've done is botch.

They better not screw up NiGHTS or there really is no hope for them.

I was too, but more people paid more attention to the Nintendo Franchise.

Well I'm going to throw out Sega's inability to make good consoles killed tem, sure the Genesis and the Dreamcast were good, but the Sega CD was a PoS, the 32x sucked hard core, the Saturn was okay but no where near as good as the N64 or the PSX.

In like a 5 year period Sega released 4 game consoles of which only one (the Dreamcast) was really worth owning. That is what killed Sega, and clearly they really can't make good games that are not on their own system.

BLECK! MK4 and MK Gold were so dissapointing :larry: but RE:CV was awesome, too bad Capcom said "F U" to all those who bought it when they updated it one year later with CVX :butz:

4 things happened:

1. Sega stopped making consoles

2. The quality of their games started to decline

3. ???

4. Not profit!

Who knows? You know somethings gone horribly wrong when they can't even do a decent port of the first Sonic game. That GBA thing is crap.

Sega should have died with the Dreamcast, if you ask me :/. With the exception of a handful of games, all they've released for the last five years is pretty crap.

SEGA screwed SEGA.

And the only good game to come out of Sega nowadays is Virtua Fighter.

Yeah, SEGA is sorta done for, but they might have a good game coming out in late 07. It'll be a group project with Nintendo (I'm not kidding) based on the 08 Olympics but with Nintendo and SEGA characters (I'm STILL not kidding!). Putting hope in this one because it''ll be out on the Wii. I'll link to it when I find the article again.

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games?

Sure doesn't help all the Mario is a communist hype. Also, ALL olympic games suck, period... except Capcom's 1992 Olympics... and even then, that was only made decent because of the Marathon thing.

I don't see why it could'nt have been something like rescue Princess Peach and defeat Bowser as Sonic and defeat Eggman as Mario. Instead we get them vault jumping.

I can actually think of one recent Sega game that was pretty good IMO, Feel the Magic. Never played the sequel though.

I am pretty sure Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games was an April Fool's joke.

I can't really say what happened to SEGA except that the quality of their games took a decline because of bad decisions. The killed themselves.

If it had been an April Fool's joke, everybody would've stopped reporting on it after April Fool's. But it's a true game.

Yeah its a real game, it could actually be fun, but I dunno how they are going to balance the characters. Sonic is the fastest thing alive, Mario is famous for his jumping skills.

Also if they don't cut Judo (which was one of the first confirmed sports) the game could be alot of fun, it would be like all those Sonic vs Mario flash videos, but in game form :D

I actually bought that. And it wasn't worth it.

Phantasy Star IV is the only game in the pack I enjoyed. I probably would've liked it better had it been on the PS2, rather than PSP. Playing Eco on a tiny screen .. not fun.

Shouldn't it say something when the most playable recent game is a compilation of old Genesis games?

I'm not an expert on the matter by any means, but I believe that SEGA ran into trouble because it did not successfully make the conversion to 3-D. At the very least, it seems to be what killed Sonic. There's a reason why the only main Sonic game in recent memory that wasn't bad was Sonic Rush. I haven't seen much of their other properties, but SEGA's hardware (or now their lack thereof) is not their only problem. I'm not afraid to say it: I have extremely low expectations for both Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games and the new NiGHTS. If either of them turns out to be even decent, I'll be surprised.

Sonic Adventure 1 and Sonic Adventure 2 were great for their time, back then most 3D games had kinda crappy camera angels, but no one noticed cause we were all like "ZOMG 3D!!"

Now a days everyone has fixed their 3D camera angles so that they don't suck, and the people who can't make the change (Sega) has great games but with really sloppy controls and camera angles that ruin it.

But I think Bass hit the nail on the head. The reason Sega's games suck is probably that lack of polish, leading to sloppy controls and a horrible camera.

Though I must say, Sonic Adventure is still my favourite Sonic game, despite that lack of polish.

It really saddens me to see how shitty Sega has become because they have tons of awesome franchises under their belt :/

It's a shame to see a fine company slowly implode under its own errors.

Even Sonic and the Secret Rings had crappy camera angles, and it was an ON RAILS GAME FOR CHRIST SAKE! Only Sega could fuck up camera angles on an on rails game.

Sega used to be a great company, but now they are terrible, their games have bad camera angles and sloppy controls usually, there ports are worse then the original usually, overall sega as a 3rd party company can not get their act together. Just to prove my point, Sega is giving the Sonic rights to a division of bioware (the guys that made Kotor) to make a new sonic game. Sega has made great RPGs in the past but now they are so afraid of themselves they'll hand over their biggest mascot to a third party (not second party, third party) just to make the game hopefully 1/2 decent.

I thought Secret Rings, Rush, and Riders were good.
So it can't all be bad. Can it?
Sure, Sonic Next Gen apparantly was craptastic. Adn not many people liked Heroes. But they have made good games recently!

Let's hope NiGHTS does turn out okay, thoguh. Adn Rush 2.

Can you name them? I'm not being an ass, I'm honestly curious. Because the only games I can think of are JSRF, Panzer Dragoon Orta, OutRun 2, House of the Dead 3 (though it pales in comparison to 2) and Gunvalkyrie. Which are mostly from a few years back.

NiGHTS 2 has the same composer, so it's sure to have an awesome soundtrack...but then again, so did Sonic 2006 at times, and look where that took us. :nick:

SegaCD was revolutionary at best. It wasn't all that bad, but it did show its age.
I'll agree with the 32X, though. Ouch.
Even though the Saturn didn't sell too well overseas, it remained strong in Japan until it was phased out by the Dreamcast (Sega Saturn, Shiro!).

What I think is Sega's problem is:
-Pricing: C'mon, this is why most of their consoles didn't sell! I really wanted a Nomad!
-East/West Relations: For some reason, the Streets of Rage games were omitted from the USA release of Sonic Gems Collection (unfortunately, a Gamecube exclusive) and replaced with the Vectorman games. Anyone who knows of the SoR series were probably throwing one hell of a storm when they found out about this one. The issue at hand is that neither side knows what the audience wants. Just look at the cast of Sonic Adventure 2 (for what it's worth, they managed to adapt fairly well).
-Milking the cash cow: Notice how long we had to wait for a Virtua Fighter game? Now, how long was it between the two latest Sonic games. Talk about a "speedy delivery".
If this is the case, then the new SoR game will be one of the greatest next-gen game of all time! ;P.
They need to take a step back and rethink their strategy before they throw themselves headlong into another project.

My faith in Sega will die only after the company is disbanded. Even then, my love for it will never falter.
Now, go Sega! For great justice!
