Well, this is promising. It's set to be revealed in about a week, so eyes out for this week's Famitsu.

Square-Enix was teasing a TWEWY announcement, but a store listing has let the cat out of the bag: there will be an arrange album of TWEWY tracks and an iOS version at some point in the future.

Source: Siliconera

UPDATE: Official site open for the iOS version, "The World Ends With You: Solo Remix".

Looks it.

Twewy was also featured in the latest Kingdom Hearts game lending further evidence that they haven't forgotten the series. Possibly they wanted to remind people of it for a potential release?

Ohboyohboyohboyohboyohboy!

Though I kinda hope Drum and Base isn't the standard for the music if this is teasing a new game, sure it would be 'modern' but....
That cityscape and art-style is pretty iconic with TWEWY

Hey look I can journalise too!
From NZgamer's report wrote:
The suggestion that this might be TWEWY 2 (or, at least, a related game) is backed up by the fact that the character design is listed in the source code of the page as being by Tetsuya Nomura and Gen Kobayashi; Gen Kobayashi was the lead character art designer on TWEWY.

Nomura - the creative producer on the original game - was also quoted in April, saying "Right now, there is nothing I can say [about The World Ends With You]. There might be something."

Cool beans.

I'm not sure about the Japanese version, but the English version had better be called "The World Ends with You Too"

If you're talking about the music on the website, I got a theory.
Obviously, the current track playing is far from complete, and lots of parts are missing. The site indicates this is the version 20810820 of the BGM, which means the BGM will get 'updated' each day till Sunday, and I'm 100% sure this will be the main theme of the game.

Mark my words, you read it here first :p

Hmm alright I'll hold you to that. It's certainly an interesting proposition and I'd love it if they did that.

Yeah, everything about that teaser page screams TWEWY. The art style, the music, the font of the timer, etc. SWEET! :larry2:

I just pray to God they stick with hand-drawn art for the game.

Me at J-5: Hmm sounds a bit like a mix of Calling and Twister.

Me at J-3: :D That's what it is!

It's just so funky listening to the full version.

Plus y'know the fact the songs are actually those two confirm for me it's definitely TWEWY-something and not some other funky-city-themed game from Square Enix.

They all stop at J-3, so I guess we'll have official reveal on Thursday, with a Famitsu article. They apparently have a scoop on a new game in this week issue, so I guess it's TWEWY 2 :damon:

Well, we still don't know it's for the 3DS, though it's quite likely (especially if they want to keep the dual-screen gameplay, which really made TWEWY stand out in my opinion). We'll have to wait for the official reveal to know!

Yeah I've been meaning to get one now, but the rule of thumb to never buy first gen hardware has been keeping me from getting it. Now that Nintendo decided to come out with an XL and not a awesome upgrade (I'm one of the second thumbstick complainers) is keeping me from getting one as well.

And if they were gonna release one with a thumbstick they'd have done it on the XL.
Also the XL drastically improves on the battery life, some may consider that an awesome upgrade.

Looks like Famitsu was a bust with regards to whatever this is, so Internet (read: GAF) speculation is that it may not be a game, but rather some sort of tie-in (anime, manga, remix album, etc.)

Countdown is at 4 days, we'll just have to wait and see.
I can understand Square Enix not wanting TWEWY2 announced in Famitsu a few days before they're going to do it with this countdown, tbh

Also just listened to the music now. Sweet Calling+Twister remix. Are the other parts from other TWEWY sounds or original stuff, tho, cuz I don't recognize them.

I don't think. Can only recognize Twister and Calling, personally.

As for the Famitsu, it was never implied the game would be revealed then. That's a suggestion I made, and many other people too. Guess we'll have to wait for this sunday to know what this game is all about, heh :)
I wouldn't mind a TWEWY anime, though I'd be a tad disappointed if that was the case...

Seems cool, but I never beat the first TWEWY (or any other Sqeenix RPG, for that matter), but the music was amazing. I might try to beat it one of these days. Along with all the other games I haven't finished

That reminds me, I'll have to check out the website in about 13h, to see if they'll change the background/music.
When I checked the URL, it only stopped at 3 Days (today), for both background and music, which is why I assumed we'd have some sort of confirmation before Sunday. I'm curious as to what SE will do... find it strange they'd put the final version of everything 3 days before the end of the countdown.

I dunno it was all in the source code no?

*Commence spitballing*

I doubt it's a remix album because on the website the track playing is listed as "BGM" and if it was part of a remix album it's highly irregular to call tracks background music, especially when official albums already exist with names for the song.

Guess I was wrong. You can find three other versions of the song... including the very final version, which seems to be mix of various songs from TWEWY.

Here they are :

J-2
J-1
Day 0

As for the BGM thing, it's BGM... for the website, not a game. So it's not surprising it's called BGM.
But I doubt it's a remix album. They already did that.

And I was also able to find three other backgrounds :

J-2

J-1

Day 0

I honestly hope it's not going to be in the game itself. I listened to the complete version and it sounds slapped together and cluttered, with too many parts of songs and vocals competing for attention. I suppose it's a very subjective thing, but I just think the original Twister has much better pacing and development.

Nah, I kind of agree with you on that one. The mix of so many songs in one makes me fear, as I'm starting to believe the 'Remake/Port' theory. Plus, the artwork seems to be the same as the one from TWEWY...

My thoughts on the background and music : funnily enough, the music are stored in the 'image' section of the website.
And another funny thing, the URL got the letters NCQKL for background/music till Day 3... but for the last 3 days, it goes to URZEA... my question is why? Does it even have any relevancy?
Maybe they were expecting people to sniff around the website, so they purposefully changed the URL midway? Who knows.

Please, let it be a sequel!

Yeah I think I liked Day 3 best as a nice calling/twister mix heavy on the funk instrumentals.

I'd totally buy a port anyway, I mean that game did Streetpass before Streetpass existed essentially which would transfer perfectly to 3DS plus I lost my original copy.

Well, if it's TWEWY2 it's gonna have to take place in the Reaper's Game. And if it's going to take place in Shibuya again...

A remake/port is obviously possible, but the fact that it's Shibuya 104 and "7 days" doesn't really make it's going to be any more probable.

If it is a remake/port, iunno if I'll get it. I liked TWEWY, but I don't know if I'm going to want to shell out all that cash just to replay it.

Yeah that's disappointing as hell, how am I gonna break the news to my friends.

Wonder how it'll work on a tablet or touchscreen though, gameplay was built specifically for two screens and you needed buttons to control the top screen.

Some people claim, quoting a guy on Twitter who ''supposedly'' worked on the localisation of TWEWY, that it's not the only TWEWY announcement to be made... but it looks more like desperate fans trying to believe till the end than anything else.
I know we all pretty much jumped on the hype train like there was no tomorrow, but I've never been kicked in the jewels so hard ever since that 'we won't localise AAI2, we wouldn't get enough money out of it' from Capcom. :yogi:

Well it just doesn't make sense.
The original version of the game was released in 2008, it's not on any kind of obsolete format nor was it not released over in western countries. Why build all that hype and mystery (that only fans would really understand) if you were going to announce a product that most people probably don't need. If they wanted to play TWEWY again could probably just slam it in their DS.

I'm led to understand the new version has the Kingdom Hearts remixes of the songs, and while the new Someday Remix (Check it here) I think is amazing it's not quite enough to sell a basic port.

Hum... I'm not too fond of that version personally, though I never really liked the original either. At least, this version 'covers up' the fact the singer just don't know how to sing... or maybe I'm mistaking this song with another. There was a track in one of the two CDs which was absolutely awful.

But yeah, the entire 'hype' thing is fishy as hell. Which is why I am now being extremely cautious about that countdown. Personally, I still believe it's for the iOS port and the CD. :lana:

Indeed. One of the main problems of iOS gaming is the limited types of input with only a touchscreen.
And they're porting THE game where the double-screen feature is simply IMPOSSIBLE to do without. The game that used the touchscreen like no other (I mean, look at the various ways to use the touchscreen for the pins, which is impossible to reproduce on a capacitive touchscreen).

Dumbed-down, meh port, by the looks of it. :yogi:
