I've come to the point where I've almost run out of the Adventure games I own to play on my 3DS, as I've beaten most of them. I was wondering if anyone could recommend some that I don't have?

Just for the record, I own:
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (10/10)
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice for All (8/10)
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations (8/10)
Miles Edgeworth: Ace Attorney Investigations (8/10)
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney (9/10)
Again (8/10)
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (8/10)
Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (7/10)
Last Window: Secret of Cape West (Not Played Yet)
James Noir's Hollywood Crimes (Not Played Yet)
Jake Hunter: Detective Story - Memories of the Past (7/10)
Myst (2/10 - I love Myst on the PC but the DS and 3DS ports were AWFUL)
Professor Layton and the Last Specter (8/10)
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask (Not Played Yet)
Professor Layton and the Curious Village (Not Played Yet)
Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box (Not Played Yet)
Professor Layton and the Unwound Future (Not Played Yet)
Trace Memory (6/10)

I'm planning on playing Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, Last Window: The Secret of Cape West, and James Noir's Hollywood Crimes in the next couple of months, and I'm holding off on the original Layton trilogy until after this last one released recently in Japan comes out in the U.S. So I have quite a bit of time without any DS/3DS adventure games. Does anyone have any they recommend?
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

Haven't played 999 yet? Go do it, along with its sequel Virtue's Last Reward I highly recommend it. If you don't I'll abduct you and force you to play the Nonary Game.

I've heard about that one. I didn't know if I was interested or not because it almost sounded like some kind of "Saw"-like horror/slasher game, which i'm not interested in at all. Is that what it is or is it different?
Thanks for the reply.

It's not really a horror/slasher game per-se more like psychological thriller with lots of awesome twists. Yeah the bad endings usually end with characters dying, but they don't leave the feeling "Oh shit. Something's out to kill me!" more like "Oh shit. There's someone in the group that's a murderer... who is it?". You'll find yourself trying to figure out the "who-dunnits" and I'm sure you'll appreciate the real-world scientific elements they add to the game. I'm not a horror fan either, but this game is pretty tame since it adds comedy between characters.

The cast of characters is great, the story is awesome especially the true ending, and the puzzles range from somewhat easy to pretty difficult if you overthink the easy ones too much. There's comedy involved so you won't find yourself confined to staying in one mood the entire game. Definitely play the series.

It's not so much the feeling of "Someone's out to get me" but rather cruel violence, so if it has a lot of violence I won't be into it. I might try it out though. Thanks.

Obviously it's the terms of presentation that's the issue here, and not the subject itself. Otherwise you wouldn't be playing Ace Attorney :P. The game is definitely more bloodier, but once again that really only presents itself during the bad endings which end in death. Oh right there's also that one explosion at the beginning. Oh well can't be helped.

I don't mean all violence, but specifically very cruel violence. There's no torture in Ace Attorney, and it's not very bloody. None of the AA crimes are really disturbing.

It doesn't have as much to do with violence in general but how the violence is. Anything with really disturbing contents is something I don't want to play.
I'll look into it, though! If I don't like it I could always stop playing it.

I really liked the Sam and Max games. I don't think they'd really qualify as "text adventure" games (more of a regular point-and-click series), but there's a lot of dialogue and focus on plot and humor. Also, they're not on 3DS. They're on PC. Still, I got the same kind of whacky detective shenanigans vibe that I did from the AA series. If you liked one series, you'd probably like the other.

999 was mentioned already, but I second that. Great game.

I can also recommend you to play 999. As it was said, it is a psychological thriller with puzzle elements. I'd say that all the violence what is included consist of few bloody pictures and text with explaining gory details. It doesn't show any so disturbing images, like in Saw, but with active imagination you can picture it, like from reading a book. The game has multiple endings, and to get 'good' ending you need to get another specifical ending. The story will drive you insane and it won't leave the feeling of suspense, intrigue and drama. I would rate her 9.99/10

What else to mention? Hmm, I can mention Time Hollow for NDS. It's a good game, maybe not perfect, but definetly worth trying one. It's sorta time travelling adventure.

Get 999. I don't care if you're worried about violence/gore or how much it costs or whatever. It's worth it and you're going to love it.

I'd also recommend Time Hollow, but don't pay too much for it. It's not long/enough enough to be worth it.

Only other game I can really think of is Flower, Sun, and Rain. Which might be quite difficult to get by now. And also definitely isn't for everyone. As long as you don't mind repetition, tedium, being annoyed, terrible visuals, and awkward audio, it can be a really neat little title. (Destructoid gave it a 3/10 and an Editor's Choice. I'd like to see another game do that.)

Based on Every Single Post in this thread, I'm guessing there's a big chance I'll get 999.

I'm trying to find a copy of time hollow cheap. I can get it used for 15-20 bucks, but I've heard that the game changes when you start again after completing it, and that there's no way to erase the cartridge. Considering half of the used copies have probably been completed, is there anything big that changes during this second play through?

I can find Flower, Sun and Rain extremely cheap, so I'll get it and see what it is.

When i search for these games, one that keeps coming up is a game called "The World Ends with You", but no one has mentioned it here so I'm guessing it isn't an adventure game. How is it related to PW/CiNG/DS Adventure games? Like I said, it keeps popping up.

TWEWY is an RPG. It's nothing like an adventure game, I'd say.

(Though, if we're talking about awesome games, I'd say read Umineko as well, though it's quite gory.)

$15 sounds about right for Time Hollow. After you beat the game once, if you start a new game...
Spoiler: Technically Time Hollow spoilers, but no plot details or anything
you can make a certain choice that gives you a different (spoilerific) ending that causes the game to end in 5 minutes

I'm not sure if there are any other actual differences... I can't really remember any. Are you sure there's no way to erase the cartridge? :yuusaku: Well if you get a used copy and you're afraid of [the spoiler], feel free to PM me or ask in the Time Hollow thread here and we'll be sure to steer you in the right direction

If you can get it for cheap, then I hope you enjoy FSR~

Like kwando said, TWEWY is an RPG. A good one, but not an adventure game. And Umineko is a VN, also not an adventure game xP

Apparently there is no way to erase the cartridge. I first heard this referenced when I was trying to erase the save data off of my Jake Hunter cartridge so my sister could play the Jake Hunter Unleashed stories (They change with every replay) and they referenced Time Hollow. After googling Time Hollow the same thing pops up. No problem though, if it's just little things that won't change anything.

Speaking of Jake Hunter, that was a game that I enjoyed but had so little interactivity it was very hard to get into it. So I think anything that's less interactive/more of a visual novel than that is not something I'm really interested in, especially if Umineko is really gory.

I might pick up the World Ends with You if it's a good game. While Adventure games are my favorite I play a lot of other ones too.

Dragon Quest 9 for the Nintendo DS, a really nice RPG where you can make your RPG characters from scratch, the soundtrack is God-awful though.

Well, from my own game library I could suggest...Hmmm....
(Sorry if these have already been mentioned...Didn't bother to check lol XD)

Batman the Brave and the Bold
- It's pretty entertaining old shchool platform...adventure...action...game.
Honestly; it is good but be noted; it's really short. It took me around 2 and half hours to beat the game completely.
But if you can get it, like, really cheap and you like the old scgool sidescrollers (this is much like Mega Man actually) then by all means; take it.

Broken Sword; Shadow of the Templars.
- I've heard this is a good game, though I'm still at the beginning of it so I can't say much.
But like I've said; all the reviews I've read 'bout it say it's at least okay.
It's point and click puzzle adventure, so you should take a look I guess.

Castlevania games
- I don't have the Dawn of Sorrow, at least yet, but I like the Order of Ecclesia and the Portrait of Ruin pretty much.
I've never been a great Castlevania fan and I don't know much from these, so I can't compare it to other games,
but I personally enjoyed these games. Pretty fun and entertaining, though I'm not sure should these be counted more as action than adventure games.

Radiant Historia
- Okay, let's be honest here; this is and RPG really, but I'd like to mention it since...honestly...it has pretty much just the right difficulty.
I never had to grind in it more than two times for spider boss and a robot boss, and even then only one level increasion was enough to do the job, so...hardly grinding.
You'll be playing it pretty smoothly, but like I said; it's still and RPG. Also; the dialogue at times isn't that perfect, but the story is pretty nice and yes; I like this game.

Zelda Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks
- Do these count? Meh, pretty nice games though I hate how you need to use stylus for moving....
but yeah, if you like Zeldas, take a look. I personally...well I don't love these but then again; I don't hate these aither.
Then again; I've never been that great Zelda fan either. Meh, fun and entertaining games too.

The Secret Files; Tunguska
- Meh...It's an okay game I guess. I don't like how every character seems to be out of the same personality mold, but...If you like point and click games; worth a shot I guess.
The story builds up quite interesting mystery, but...I personally didn't like the endng much...I've had a talk with many people about this ending and I can get why some people like it,
but for me this is like...first they build a mystery and when the revelation time comes; it's like the argument would be; Magic. ...But yeeeeeah...Take a look.
I don't have the second game, Puritas Cordis, but even though I didn't like this game that much I'd still take a look at this.
You know...just for the sake of another adventure I guess.

Theresia - Dear Emile
- It's a horror adventure game where everything seems to kill you. No, literally; move the chair left or right; get hurt by spikes, but if you pullit back; you pass.
It's pretty much a trial and error kinda game. I still haven't beaten it (I'm at the last parts of Emiles story, so technically I'm like 45% done)
but I am trying to finish it one of these days. It has some more adventuring and puzzle solving, so if you are interested; take a look.
Oh; and about the horror...I don't mean it in like; this is a monster; it's gonna kill you kinda way. No no.
You are pretty much alone all the time, but the areas you wander are dark and the music is creepy. Hmm...It's more like the Silent Hill Shattered Memories, but without the nightmare sequences.

Unsolved Crimes.
- You are a detective; you solve murders and catch the culprits. There's you game.
It's actually pretty fun puzzle game and definitely worth a try. Just a thing to note though; pay attention to what you're suposed to do.
I managed to think the culprits and how they did it on some cases long before the game allows you to do that, so when I tried to get the game get my point I got few game overs. XD
But it's a cake walk as long as you answer whatever you are asked and don't overthink things. Since you like AA games this is definitely worth a try like I said IMO.

Well, 999 has already been mentioned but..yeah. That. And then the Virtues Last Reward for 3DS.
And believe me; you wanna take that order. I still love the 999 much but the impact VLR left...It's just on whole other level for me.

Lastly there is one game I kinda want you to take a look, but on the other hand I strongly recommend to stay away from; Lost Identities.
It may soun like a nice mystery adventure on paper, but the characters are clicheish and paper thin, story is...meeeeh...the gameplay is bunch of minigames...and it's just...bad...
It's one of those games you just need to experience, so that's why I recommend it... XDDDD
Take a look of it too (if you have free time)

The plot is also really boring. (It actually isn't, but it requires 30 hours of macguffin-hunting before the plot goes anywhere, and then it only has a few hours until you get to postgame)

This was originally a PC game, and one of my favorites! Well, the PC version, at least. I heard the DS version was a little inferior in that the controls were a little less amazing and they took out the full voice acting the original had. I can't speak for the DS version (The DS version of Myst was terrible) but the pc version is great and the story is really good, so I encourage you to play it somehow.

I know several people have already discussed it already, but I thought I could add my own grain of salt :p

You compare 999 to Saw, and while there's a sorta similar setting, the two things couldn't be any more different. Take me for example : can't stand this kind of movie, yet I loved 999/VLR.

You don't have to worry, there's no torture whatsoever in 999. You're not forced to kill/torture/make someone suffer, etc... There's a bit of violence (never shown directly, more hinted at than anything), but it's neither too extreme, or unjustified. It's quite impactful, but in a positive way. There's no killing just for the sake of it. No bs like torturing people and forcing them to saw their limb off so as to make them into better people. :yuusaku:
It does have some serious themes, but no gore every 5 seconds.

There's even less 'violence' in VLR too, so you really don't have to worry. It's got very few common things with the Saw movies. So yeah, you're pretty safe with those games. Wooster either isn't a fan of violence and such, yet he loved 999. So think you're quite safe here :garyuu:

Though unfortunately, I'm afraid I don't have any game to suggest... I was actually hoping to find one I didn't know about in this thread, ha! :gant:

:gant:

Thanks for the info, L~A! Now that I know it's really not that similar I will definitely try it out.
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.
