So the most recent entry in the series just came out recently and I'm wondering if anyone else around here has taken a liking to it.

As someone who's only played Personas 3 and 4, I can definitely recommend this to anyone who doesn't mind difficulty in their RPGs.

*Masochists and/or people who love hard RPGs need only apply*

I'm wondering if I should get it. I only finished Persona 4 and have yet to start Persona 3.
I generally don't mind difficulty in my RPGs, as long as the battle system is decent and fitting to the difficulty, also explaining things decently enough for me to figure things out without spelling it out entirely.

Battle systems pretty much the same. Attack the weak spot for massive damage!
The game will kick your ass. This ain't Persona. None of that sissy social link stuff here!

I'm a fan of the dub they used. Favorite voice actor is Walter's. Man that guy is hilarious

Yeah, people who complained about Yukiko's battle or saying stuff is hard in Persona 4. Yeah, that game I'd say is a bit harder than your typical RPG, but SMT is well beyond that. Even having great strategies in SMT won't save you. This game loves to make you feel good then kick you right where it hurts. This game is great.

I also like how I need a quest dedicated to getting breakfast. Burroughs, remind me to shower later too when I finish up in Naraku. Thanks.

Fun fact. Even low level demons can still kick your ass! Mind your weaknesses!

Really? I can play the game without feeling pressured to help everyone with their dumb problems? :will:

I personally didn't mind Yukiko in battle. She wasn't strong, but that's because she was obviously the dedicated Medic of the group. Her magic was pretty good. Only thing that bothered me is why she and Teddie are the snowflakes that don't lose their weakness when the Social Link is maxed... but once I got the answer why - they're special little snowflakes - I got over it.

Atlus apparently thought it'd be too ridiculous to have healers with no weaknesses.

Don't worry, they fixed it in Golden...where nobody loses their weaknesses. Seriously though, everyone does at least learn Evade (whatever element their weakness is) so they probably aren't getting hit anyway.

And I'm pretty sure dulla was talking about the Shadow Yukiko battle. That and Shadow Kanji were easily the toughest required battles in P4 (which is why they were nerfed in Golden).

Yeah and apparently everybody's evolved persona has another evolution to it, being the ultimate form. It's like the Mega Ultra Matrix Fusion Evolutions from Digimon. I heard how Golden changed the weaknesses not being lost and changing the Social Links abilities by requiring you to have Rank 9 instead of Rank 1 to have somebody die for you.

Although I am glad they put weaknesses onto Shadow Yukiko and Kanji. Yukiko wasn't that tough, but Kanji cost me a few days of nerves...

PS: I am heavily thinking of importing Golden... just wondering a bit about the kanji in the game.

Man. Spending App points is probably the hardest decision to make. Do I spend 30 to another skill slot for my demons, or do I spend 30 to add a skill slot for me? Should I spend 20 points to fuse demons in battle or do I spend 10 on two separate apps? Argh!

"Hmm, free DLC white samurai gear that gives me resistance to piercing attacks? This'll help against Medusa!" -My chaos side

"Wait, no! That would be shameful! I shouldn't 'cheat' for this game!" -My Lawful side

Needless to say my chaos side won out and I gave a zan-filled smackdown to Medusa. No regrets here.

Took me quite a while to fell Medusa. Had to get more demons with Zan in order to give her the justice she truly deserved.
The White Samurai gear is still pretty useful so far, and I wouldn't say it's cheating considering that it's got Ice weaknesses. So shut up Law!

I'm just doing some side-quests right now. Picked up a demon quest where I had to get a coffin lid while running away from a demon that can't currently die. It was absolutely horrible. Had to save and restart whenever the bastard caught me.

Here in Europe, it won't be released until September. I hate you guys.

The thing about Persona games (and maybe most SMT ones, I wouldn't know) is that half the time it isn't about difficulty as much as pure dumb luck. I can't count the number of times I've been a split second too late with starting an enemy encounter, only to be Surprise Attack'd and either having a group of Shadows casting instant death spells on my entire group, or my Main Character getting OHKO'd by Power Charge->Meelee Attack or some stupid shit. Don't get me wrong: I love Persona, I just think the battles are some of the worst jRPG fare known to Man.

I feel you, Yellow Magician. I'm on an Expert New Game + on P4 now and, just like in the previous playthrough, I have moments where I am the one hitting the damn shadow first and I still get a Surprise Attack! Can people blame me for running from battles in the later dungeons because of Surprise Attacks coming from overpowered enemies...?

:O That's seriously screwy. As it is, I can't imagine playing Persona 4 on Expert Mode. Hell, I never even finished the "The Answer" part of Persona 3 FES because it adopted Hard difficulty - which in P3 basically boiled down to "Enemy attacks hit harder and player attacks hit less often". I can understand the former change but making battles that much more luck driven? Just...no. :<
