Personally, after the initial outbursts, I feel Jack has been mellowing, and likewise, the sentiment against him has mellowed. Compared to many many many other conservative 'journalists' who solely write about videogames for 15 minutes of fame, the guy has standards.

Case in point: Jack Defends Mass Effect

While the whole Fox News Mass Effect controversy (as well as that case with the blogger journalist, can't remember name) is prolly encouraged by Jack's well-publicized tirade against GTA, I can't help but respect him for keeping his head together otherwise.

Actually, that just makes him look even nuttier.

Then again, I've never played Mass Effect so I'll stand corrected if need be.

The controversy surrounding Mass Effect was solely based on Fox claiming it was (in their own words) "Luke Skywalker meets Debbie Does Dallas". They claimed that it was full frontal nudity and basically you could screw anything and everyone.

Cooper Lawrence, the supposed psychology 'expert' Fox hired onto the show was told that the game was pure pornography. She had, before the televised 'debate', never seen a single minute of Mass Effect and depending on hearsay for her points.

Cooper has since apologized after watching two and a half hours of Mass Effect being played (with prolly the 'sex scene' in all its 30 seconds of glory), saying that she'd seen more explicit scenes in episodes of Lost.

Fox News, despite being reprimanded harshly by EA for reporting just about pure libel and slander on the game, has yet to apologize.

I'm guessing that Jack both regards Mass Effect as a genre far out of his expertise (sci-fi gaming is just hard to argue any point on. Does he really want to bring in Star Wars video games?), and also that Cooper committed a highly fatal editorial error.

For example, her book on Amazon is almost completely flamed out. Although false reviews and ratings are being removed by Amazon, the tags attached to it aren't.

My personal favourite that I know of: "Alien-side-cleavage-is-the-death-of-America" with 1000+ votes

Because one slight moment of lucidity makes him not a crazy law abuser who attaches gay pornography to court reports for no particular reason.

Ever heard the term,

"Even a broken clock is right twice a day"?

^ Hence I said not 'completely insane'.

It's prolly more of a selfish observation. He's not going to link himself with a video-game-bashing campaign that wasn't thought-out and open to easy criticism. At least with Hot Coffee, there was actual sex being pantomimed, however badly.

My guess is he's trying to make himself NOT look like a completely biased person. Seriously, if you look up what he claimed about Bully, it seems he misunderstood that game as well.

I see video game's "Wacko Jacko" (as the majority of the world has given that name to someone else) not so much as an enemy to the industry, but more like a rival - you hate his guts, but you can't help but respect him at times.
This piece of information, however small, is very interesting and sheds like to another side of Thompson that few get to see.

Jack's not even an enemy; he's just a crazy old man who's fun to laugh at.

But yeah, you gotta admire his perseverance.
