Yes well, I think I'd be profiled...wrongly...when I say I love this game, but apparently, it's got a rather extensive fanbase (even if most of them are dead). Figure I'd try my luck here :eh?:

Basically, it's a fighting game franchise (which is prolly dead now) whose characters are zoanthropes - meaning they all transform into some kind of were-beast form. Anything from tigers, wolves, to moles, penguins, and one of them is a half-cat.

Let me say this; the fighting system was only great back in the Playstation era (and it was at best, Tekken good). The storylines can be pretty lame, like a rip-off of the X-Men. Heck, the characters can be pretty generic as well.

BUT, somehow, it kept a relatively strong fanbase, especially in Japan. I'm...not sure why, but it's not because of furries. IT'S NOT!

Anyway, just seeing if anyone else is nostalgic about it.

The Best Bloody Roar Official Site - Not about the latest game, but it's still up and has nice character art and information. Anyway, most fans pretend BR4 never existed =/

PS: Because I love him, I shall point you directly to Long

Spoiler: My loooong rant about why Long is great and you must love hiM!
Long is great. He is to Bloody Roar that Ryu is to Street Fighter. Yugo may be the 'main' character, but every fan knows, it's LONG'S game.

Why? In the first game, he was so badass, he didn't even bother to transform to fight the were-lion guy! He was an assassin and his partner was an insane transvestite were-fox at that time. And YET, he DOESN'T suffer from silly yaoi fanfics.

In the second game, he loses the glasses and hides out in a cave on a mountain as a hermit. Only to have some high school girl come trying to pry the boulders (yes, he uses boulders) off his entrance. Long agrees to train her for ONE MONTH. He's left alone with a high school girl (who vaguely remembers him when he rescued her from the research lab when she was little), on a remote mountain location, in a cave, for one month, and NOBODY thinks he'll do anything bad. Hell, Uriko was RECOMMENDED to find him at the beginning of the game! And she learns some of his moves in much the same way as a cat mimics a tiger (literally). Adorable, and the beginning of Long becoming super popular with fangirls.

Also, THE WHOLE PLOT OF BR2 CENTERS AROUND HIM! Basically, he was SO badass when he still worked with Tylon (the evil corporation of the game), that they decided he was the best candidate to be cloned, and his clone was used as a puppet rep for a supposed Zoanthrope Liberation Front. His clone is naturally, badass, but only because Long is!

Although now he has yaoi fanfics because of him.

He leaves Uriko with her mother in the end (sadness all!)

In 3, there's a zoanthrope who has the werebeast form of an EVA suit Unborn - basically an animal that was never meant to evolve, or failed to. This game was the start of the mysticism strain of Bloody Roar, but it was done rather well. Anyway, Xion, as he is called, is basically the big bad. He hunts out other Zoanthropes and fights them, or kills them - The explanation being he's prompted by the spirit of his dead sister (another Unborn) to kill all these creatures who did not 'fail to evolve' or something like that.

So what does Long do? He fights Xion and TAKES IN THE SPIRIT OF HIS DEAD SISTER INTO HIMSELF! Yes, Long is so righteous and good and pure awesome that in later games, he's walking around with the spirit of some evil were-beast in himself without any problems.

Oh, and he and Xion become good buds, apparently. Shenlong is booted to the curb as fangirls glomp the new (and much more delectable) OTP.

Xion also looks a lot like Dante from Devil May Cry.

In 3 EX/PF (which are sequels but they didn't bother increasing the numerals, making it confusing), he makes ancient chinese embroidered clothing look good, works for the Zoanthrope Kingdom, but apparently has something sinister happening. He also watches one of the gayest new characters being naked in a lab tube but that's beside the point. He also has friendly sparring matches with his clone/brother/twin, drinks tea, and one can only assume trying to not have Uriko glomp him whenever she sees him (FATHER figure peopel!)

In 4, he doesn't really do anything. Hence, 4 sucks. No, it sucks REALLY bad because it all revolves around some character who actually uses RIPPED SOUND EFFECTS FROM GODZILLA. I KID YOU NOT. He's the Dragon, but he's obviously some kind of rip-off of Godzilla as well. NONE of the characters actually does anything save, slay the dragon, which doesn't actually progress any plot.

And THAT'S why Long rocks! No, I have so much more to say why Long rocks! Long fights people with braces on his arm and legs! He's not even at full power at all! He looks progressively younger with each installment (that's an art department error but who the hell cares!). He has an adorable Wolverine-Jubilee relationship with Uriko (and unlike Yugo, doesn't have to suffer pedo-fiction because everyone knows it's not in him). He's also the only cat character not to attack someone with his teeth (save Uriko, who's only half-cat anyway; the others the Lion, Leopard, and even the Wolf, all attack with their jaws).

Plus, he has the BEST cosplayers. In fact, he's one of the most frequent cosplayed Bloody Roar character, even though his costumes are horribly complicated to make!

LONG IS AWESOME!

The Bloody Roar series was alright, though I consider them to have peaked at the 2nd one. 3 and beyond just didn't catch my interest much anymore, probably because I was busy playing the Alpha games.

Agreed. I love BRII, strangely enough, for the stories. The story mode was decent, all things considered, and they had great cutscene art (as did BR3, and the anime cutscenes in BR PF were fine even if they weren't voiced [cheap] and much preferable to the 3D versions in the Xbox one >_<ll)

To be honest, if it wasn't for Long, I'd prolly not bother with the next few installments. BR4 was just plain stupid.

Bringer of the New Age was the only decent entry in the series.

I really liked the series' storyline.
It kinda fell apart after the fall of the Tyron/Tylon organization.
Personally, I consider BR3 and BR4 to be something of the same, storywise, though much of the events seem to conflict with the other.
A real shame that much of the good voice acting came after the series fell off the map.

A few personal peeve - People mistakening Uranus' chimera form for BR1 Uriko's "Ultimate Being" form.

I'd love to talk more (I will later!), but I need to get some sleep!

I though this series was really cool. I mean, I don't care what anyone says, Anthropromorphic animals ROCK!
