360: 20GB or 120 GB HDD? =\Topic%20Title

Okay. I'm unsure of which HDD I want.

A lot of my friends say just go with the 20, but I want to download a lot of stuff, and put about 1-2 GB of music on it. I also want to download some of the Xbox games (I am NOT keeping up with more discs if I can help it =\), and I'm probably eventually want to load up on Arcade games.

All in all, I want ONE HDD, that's it. If I buy the 20 it would mean once I reach the limit, that's it for me (Unless I decide to take off the music). I want the 120 if I'm going to even need 25GB (20GB is 100 at Walmart, 120GB is 155 at Walmart.)

So... I ask ye fellow 360 gamers, which should I get?

First things first, the 20GB hard drive actually ends up amounting to thirteen gigabytes, as the rest is being used for ... whatever the 360 uses it for. It's what I have, and while I'd like to know that I'd never run out of space, there is about zero need for me to really get 120 gigs.

The arcade games are so tiny that it's not hugely significant. Even after putting on at least three gigabytes of music, you'd still have around nine to ten GB left.

Unless you keep piling thirty or fifty so albums of music on constantly, you're basically never going to use much more than that. With the exception of Xbox original games, which are either one full gigabyte or three. I forget. The thing is though, unless you plan on spending over sixty dollars worth, you'd still have ... what, three gigs left?

Basically what I'm saying is that the 120 gigabyte hard drive is unnecessarily large and the 20 gigabyate hard drive is pretty much all you would possibly need, but can cut it pretty close. I'd really have prefered a 60 gig drive or something, to be honest.

Well, I'm gonna be downloading Halo as well, but I'm guessing that'll be, what, a gig at most?

EDIT: Stupid me, you already covered that. *slaps self* Well, I guess I'll just worry about buying the Xbox games if I ever run out of space.

Thanks for the info, HH.

It really depends on what you download. Game demos take up around 1 GB each, while game videos take up about 1/3 to 1/2 of that. Full-length HD movies are in the 4 GB range. Seven demos and fifty videos, and you're already pushing the limit. And don't forget about the downloadable content and the massive Xbox Originals, either.

I've personally reached my 20 GB limit several times, and I only own five full Arcade titles. I purchased the 120 GB HDD a few months back, and I've used about half of it already.

In my opinion, I think you should go with the larger one from the get-go. 100 gigs extra for only $55 more is a very good deal, and you'll always find something to put on it.

Halo is a 2GB download, IIRC. Movies can be huge, too - an HD version of 300 was about 5GB. If you plan on buying things like that, you'll run out of space on a 20GB hard drive really quickly, especially when you realize it's actually more like 13GB.

Well, right now I only plan to get about five arcade titles and Halo put on there, since they seem not to have many other Originals on there. (I'll have to buy the actual CD for Doom 3... Oh well. XD)

I'm also nabbing Quake Arena Arcade when it comes out (Basically Quake 3: Arena with some new stuff in it)... and I'm pretty sure that I'll probably delete game demos after I've played them.

I won't be downloading any movies, of that I'm pretty sure. I'll just buy arcade titles and maybe a few Xbox Originals. I want to be prepared for the future, and I don't want more than one HDD. This is why I made this topic.

EDIT: Actually, the Refurbished 20GB HDDs at Gamestop have the ENTIRE 20GB on them, according to what a friend of mine said. Course, that could be wrong...

Unless your going to buy 50 games, load up 60 mp3s, or download every single arcade and demo...just stick with the 20 GB HDD.

I'm more than likely gonna buy upwards of 40 games, but those saves won't take up much.

I plan to use upwards of 3GB for music, and I'm not gonna get more than a few arcade games (Plus Halo), and I'll buy the Xbox original games that work.

I'm gonna get the 20GB HDD. If necessary, I will just get another (they're 60 dollars used). Thanks for all the help, everyone!

I would definitely go with the 120 GB. Believe me, you're going to end up downloading more than you might think.

So true. I don't usually plan on keeping the demos either, and yet I have 15 of them still on my HDD. Same with videos.

Better safe than sorry. I would buy the 120 GB just so you have extra space should you go over. It's always a good idea to plan ahead.

I got the 20GB. I'm not going to need that much.

Hell, I went through Xbox LIVE while my stuff downloaded, and didn't really see much that I wanted. Maybe a demo or two, sure, but other than that, no.

I'm gonna have 10GB free after I'm done (That's including Halo), and after my music's on, I'm gonna have about 7GB left. I honestly don't think I need any more.

Besides, I paid 60 bucks for it and it was practically free with the method I used. >.>

Indeed... with what I'm going for here, I'm gonna have 10GB left. I'm not gonna use more than 5GB for game demos (And I'm NOT going to buy TV shows or movies. I'll just stick with my DVDs, thanks~)

But yes, I got my HDD, thanks for everyone's help.

This topic has served its usefulness, and thus I request a lock.

The XBOX originals are massive...

Psychonauts is 5.3
Fahrenheit is 3.1
Halo is 2.3
Burnout is 2.7
Crimson Skies is 4.1
Fable is 3.2

The other two are under a gig.

Yeah, but I can just buy the actual CDs for any other Xbox game I want.

It was just cheaper to get Halo online than at GameStop. (LIVE - 15 bucks, GameStop - 25 bucks)

I WOULD rather not, which is why I downloaded Halo.

But hell, I'm not waiting around for DOOM 3. And I doubt I'll get Halo 2 either. (Besides the fact it's not 100% compatible with the 360).

Well, I guess you get what you pay for.

My 20GB HDD began glitching a few days ago. Right now it's still only with one arcade game, DOOM. When I try to go back to the main menu, it forces a lockup. If I boot the game from my old Memory Unit and try to go back, it works. Verdict? Yeah, it's the Hard Drive.

The thing looks scratched up as it is (it was like that when I got it), so I'm guessing the previous owners must have dropped the thing any number of times. I'm gonna be taking it back, selling every game I'm never playing again (I'm talking the games that have been sitting on my shelf for over six months without being played, whether I beat them or not), and getting the 120GB. Mostly because I cannot find the 20GB anywhere now. Not at GameStop, not at Best Buy, not at Walmart. They've been taken off the list for GameStop, and according to an associate, they've stopped being made. Probably because Microsoft knows how much downloadable content they have.

Because of this, by the way, I may not be on Xbox LIVE for another day. My family's home today (I forgot it was MLK Jr. Day) and I have to get this stupid situation cleared up before the end of today. (I bought the HDD exactly seven days ago.)

Yeah.

Well, I have my 120GB HDD, and now that I have no real limits on downloading, I went ahead and downloaded the demos of every game I've been thinking about renting/buying.

So far, what I've been seeing is pretty good, though I don't like how Burnout: Paradise is, compared to Burnout: Revenge.

$60 for a wireless headset. $50 for a wireless controller. $180 for a 120 GB hard drive. By my fat wallet, they are really expensive.

Have a GameStop near you? They're bound to have one for about 20 bucks.

On a side note relating to Xbox LIVE, I beat Aegis Wing! XD Holy_Hell and I beat the final stage, just BARELY. (took two tries)

If you're going to buy an expensive box of joys, go for the VERY expensive quality stuff. Otherwise you're just stuck with the one-you-wish-you-hadn't-bought and a lot less money.

Trust me, I'm VERY glad I got the 120GB HDD. I loaded it with demos of games I wanted to buy so I could try them out without having to rent them. I've used up about 25-30GB so far, but I've downloaded everything I wanted. For now. I know I'll download more in the future, so I"m kind of glad I wasn't able to find the 20GB HDD anywhere (and eventually it just happened to be in a Blockbuster) and then opted to get the 120. Really is the better deal.

Honestly though, HH was right; a 60GB HDD would have probably pleased just about everyone. =\

A networking person I know said the longer you go with the cords, the slower the connection. Better to go with the wireless than with wired in that instance.
